What can cause vulvar redness that is not yeast or an STD?

I have had an area of redness just outside of the inner labia, next to my clitoris for a couple of months now. I thought it was yeast, and have been using an anti-fungal cream for a week with no improvement. There is no burning or itching, just mild irritation. I know for certain is not an STD, but cannot for the life of me figure out what is going on. Can anyone help?
I do always wear cotton underwear and have not changed any soaps or detergents recently.
You might have an irritation due to laundry detergent you are using or the type of underwear you are wearing. Cotton undies are the best (but not the cutest) for your feminine area down there. You might want to switch to those for a while to see if that helps. :)  (+ info)

I have been given predisone and triamcinolone to help with the lesions on my skin, but neither do anything for my tongue and I'm at the end of my rope. Any suggestions would be so deeply appreciated.
I've read that aloe vera juice (the kind you can drink) is great for gargling, then swollowing. Also, you should avoid all products with sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) and peroxide, so check your toothpaste/mouthwash carefully. I've read that biotene is good. Finally, avoid all acidic foods, such as tomatoes. You can neutralize the acid by adding a bit of sugar.

This is a nasty autoimmune disorder, so the prednisone should help a bit. I'd also suggest finding an online forum/group for this disorder because you'll glean incredible information from people who've had this for a while.

I've had lichen planus for atleast 7-8 months now and was wondering when the breakouts stop ? I've had a couple new ones around my wrists and don't want them to keep coming. Any idea how long it will take till they won't show up anymore ? ( Not get cured, stop having spots appear is what I meant)

Lichen Planus for 6 Months and it started to go away after i started to use some kind of cream named " TRIAMCINOLONE ACETONIDE" OINTMENT USP, 0.1%. If you happen to get the cream/ointment from a dermatologist,read the instructions which are " Apply To The Affected Area Twice Daily" So in the morning, aand when you are about to go to sleep

Which is the difference between oral lichen planus of the tongue and oral hairy leukoplakia of the tongue?

From the pictures i have seen on the internet they seem the same to me.I have these little white irregular lines that sometimes appear on the lateral sides of my tongue but when i see the pictures they resemble to oral hairy leukoplakia and lichen planus of the lateral sides of the tongue.I just want to know how can i distinguish the main differences between the two as far as their appearance and symptoms are concerned?
I think that this should clear it up! This is from my Kerr and Ash's Oral Pathology book from 1986. I am not convinced that anything has changed.

Lichen planus is a relatively common dermatological (skin) disease with oral manifestations in about 1/3 of the cases. The clinical oral manifestation vary from flat or slightly elevated lesion with striae to extensive areas of ulceration or erosion (erosive lichen planus). Except for the erosive type, the oral lesions are seldom a diagnosis problem or require treatment. The presence of skin lesions helps to make a diagnosis in erosive lichen planus. It has unknown etiology, but may be stress related and looks white and lacey.

Oral hairy leukoplakia is a viral leukoplakia of the tongue in immunosuppressed male homosexuals who have or may develop the features of AIDS..... Clinical lesions appear as white, slightly raised "hairy" plaques on the tongue, they usually do not rub off to leave a bleeding surface as may be seen in candidial lesions.

I am getting so peeved off with it and so far everything the doctors have prescribed only gives temporary short term relief. In fact I don't even think they really know how to treat it.

My mouth hurts most all the time and it burns when eating food. My mouth is very tender all the time. Brushing my teeth is a hard thing to do because of the pain.
Lichen planus of the mouth most commonly affects the inside of the cheeks, gums and tongue. Oral lichen planus is more difficult to treat and typically lasts longer than skin lichen planus. Fortunately, most cases of lichen planus of the mouth cause minimal problems. About a third of all people who have oral lichen planus also have skin lichen planus. Women may also have lichen planus of the vaginal area.

Oral lichen planus typically appears as patches of fine white lines and dots. These changes usually do not cause symptoms. Dentists during routine check-ups often find them. More severe forms of oral lichen planus can cause painful sores and ulcers in the mouth.

Often a biopsy of affected tissue is needed to confirm a diagnosis of lichen planus. Sometimes, several biopsies are needed at various times, along with blood tests. It is common for a yeast infection to be present with lichen planus. In these cases, the yeast infection is usually treated first. The treatment often improves the lichen planus. There have been cases of lichen planus like allergic reactions to gold and mercury in dental materials but they are rare.

When lichen planus is very severe, especially if the underside of the tongue is involved, there is a slightly increased risk of developing oral cancer. If this is present, avoid the use of alcohol and tobacco products, which also increase the risk. Schedule visits to the dentist and exams for oral cancer at least twice a year.  (+ info)
