My dog has been vomiting multiple times a day for the past two weeks. What could be wrong?

She is 7 years old and has been vomiting at least twice a day for 2 weeks. She also eats her vomiting after throwing it up. She has two lima bean size lumps on either side of her neck, and also two lumps on her breasts... What could be wrong? She is also losing weight rather quickly. Thank you.

This does not sound like a simple issue. You really need to take your dog to a trusted veterinarian. If you are worried about the cost of the visit and any testing that will incur, you can probably do a finance plan. This is the price of having a pet. You need to put her health first; it is like having a child. Please make her an appointment today. Most vets will work with you!  (+ info)

What types of alcohol cause the most vomiting?

For me it seems to be southern comfort. It caused me to to puke both times I drank it. First time I drank around 3/4 of a pint and 2nd time I drank over 1/2 a fifth though so that might be why.

Also are the impurities that cause hangovers the same ones that cause vomiting?
Here is some info I found:

Clear liquors like vodka, rum and gin are better bets than dark or sweet liquors like bourbon, scotch or tequila because they have fewer congeners. Generally, cheaper liquor will result in a worse hangover than more expensive liquor.

My conclusion:

Drink a fullglass of water before drinkin, take a multi vitamin, and eat a meal. Then drink expensive vodka and you'll be slightly better off than cheap dark liquor.

Vomitting is your body's way of 'cleansing' itself of poisons & it depends on your own body's tolerance to different types of alcohol - according to a friend who used to work in the licensed trade there are over 1000 different types of alcohol (I don't mean alcoholic beverages). It's nothing to do with Southern Comfort - I love the stuff & have done a full 70cl bottle in a night (which I think is roughly equivalent to a fifth) with no ill effect.

Previous answerers have correctly stated that dehydration is the main cause of hangovers. Drinking water before bedtime helps, but if you are very drunk you are going to end up peeing the bed because the body can only absorb so much water at a time. A much better idea is to have a glass of water between each alcoholic beverage.

Lastly, have a good meal with plenty of fluids (not tea, coffee, alcohol or carbonated 'pop') a couple of hours before going out. That will minimise any vomitting or hangover.

EDIT: forget more expensive vodkas. I do smirnoff red on a regular basis - smirnoff blue label is OK but "vladivar ultimate" (expensive AND lethal stuff) is pure hangover juice for me!  (+ info)

How long am I likely to be vomiting for with a stomach problem?

I have been vomiting a lot for over 8 weeks now. I have had some acid reflux and pain inside my oesophagus. How long before I get any relief on ant-acids. Do you get long term relief on PPIs as I,m getting fed up. There does not seem to be any relief yet. Has anyone else been through this. Any doctors know if it will stop soon?
----------

Hi Julie, Have you been to your doctor's if you have not i suggest that you pay him a visit. 8 weeks is a very long period of time for you to be vomiting, your body will be losing essential fluids and salts. ant acids may be making the problem worse, Please go to your doctors, you may need to be on special medication.  (+ info)

After low potassium from vomiting, how long would it take for potassium levels to regulate?

If somebody had low levels of potassium from frequent vomiting, and then the vomiting stopped and they ate regularly, how long would it take for thier potassium levels to go back to a normal level? anything to do to help speed the process up? besides bananas and oj and spanich? thanks!
----------

This is really an interesting question, because it is easy to increase the amount of potassium in your blood, but it takes longer to get it to the cells where it is needed.

So if you are treating a potassium deficiency, remember that you have to keep eating high-potassium foods for a week or so so everything comes back to equilibrium. Not that you won't get rid of the symptoms quickly, although how quick depends on how much potassium is lost. The potassium just needs to get distributed.

My favorite treatment for low potassium is molasses. One tablespoon of molasses has about 300 mg of potassium, compared to 425 for a whole medium banana. Vegetable juice is good, too; an 8-oz. serving of V-8 juice has 470 mg. 1/4 cup of wheat germ has 250. about the same as 1/4 cup of prunes. Watermelon is overrated, and has only about 170 mg in a cup. Potatoes are good, but most the potassium is in the skin. A medium potato has 925 mg with the skin, but only 400 mg without.

I am giving you a link with a list of some high-potassium foods, and to the USDA nutrition database, where you can look up the composition of any common food.  (+ info)

How and why does ice help nausea and vomiting?

Nauseated and vomiting after surgery and extremely cold drinks/ice helps it to pass, and I was wondering why and how this is true. Many medications haven't helped at all.
----------

Ice does NOT help everybody, in each different degree of deterioration/circumstance. In quite a number of cases, though, ice does give an overall "numbing effect" to most "actions and reactions" that take place, in living biological organisms/cells.  (+ info)

Very pregnant and my toddler has diarrhea and vomiting. How can I avoid getting sick, too?

I am 40 weeks pregnant and my 3 year old has had vomiting and watery diarrhea for over a day. I am scared that I will be sick when I give birth. What can I do to prevent getting sick? Would charcoal work? Garlic? Frequent hand washing is important, I know, but is there anything else I can do?
----------

Wear plastic gloves when you diaper him or clean up vomit, wash your hands and his frequently, use hand sanitizing gel, wash his bedding in hot water, avoid touching your mouth after you've touched him. That's all you can really do.  (+ info)

How much alcohol do people normally consume before vomiting?

How much alcohol do people normally consume before vomiting?
I had 3 cans of Bourban n Coke, 1 glass of red wine and 1 glass of white wine and I threw up. But my friend that was with me had the exact same and did not throw up.
I skulled my drinks faster than she did. Could this be why? Or are there any other factors affecting it?
----------

There is two things going on here. Alcohol tolerance is how tolerant your body is at digesting alcohol and the other ingredients within the drinks. If you drink all the time, your body will adjust its energy to digesting your alcohol. If you do not have the tolerance your body can't adjust quickly enough to digest the alcohol that is going into your system. As a result your body thinks that you are being poisoned. As a defense mechanism, it will purge all remaining fluids in your stomach and send all of its energy to restoring the body to its normal state. That will be when you pass out.  (+ info)

How can you tell if you baby is spitting up or vomiting?

My daughter is 5 months old and has always spit up alot, but recently has been pretty good. This weekend though she was terrible with it. Her daycare has had a stomach bug going around. I was wondering if someone can help me tell the difference between vomiting and just spitting up? She has been drinking less formula then normal, but she is also teething. Last night she ran a temp of 101.5 I called the doctors call center and they told me that if the fever gets to 104 to bring her in, but for now to treat it with tylenol. This morning it was 100, but has since gone down to normal. She is not overheated, dressed comfortably. When she had the fevers a just put her in a onsie to try and cool her off. Any ideas as to what this might be and how I can tell if she is vomiting or just spitting up?
----------

I had the issue of the flu.

My daughter (now 18 months) had the flu at 4 1/2 months. The way I told was I knew how she spit up, and when she was doing it very frequently (with every single feeding) and it was accompanied by a fever. I took her to the doctor because I was afraid of dehydration (very easy for an infant to do). They checked her out for me, gave me a suppository to assist with the vomiting (she threw everything up, which is very dangerous), and told me what to give her until she could again take formula. They told me to use the "Pedialite" mixed with apple juice, as well as Gatoraid (electrolites as well as some sugar and calories) was the best things to do until formula was a possibility again. Formula may have to be eased back into the diet, but they told me two days of the Pedialite and Gatoraid would be fine, and then go back to the formula and see how it was handled.  (+ info)
