2D echo cardiogram result show left ventricular end diastolic dimension decreased from 76 to 65mm.Is ds gud?

Ejection fraction increased from 41% to 52%. Aortic root size increased from 35 to 37mm. Please explain these test results.
----------

any increase in ef is usually good.It means your heart is pumping more efficiently. The main thing you should worry about is why(leaky heart valve, virus, alcohol consumption) your heart was dilated in the first place and try to fix it. The aortic size is harder to evaluate the place I work at now that would be large but other places use different measurements and that could be normal. Go to www.seemyheart.org its a web site by the American society of Echocardiography for patients to understand there results  (+ info)

What does left ventricular ejection fraction estimated at greater than 60% mean?

Your ejection fraction is the amount (volume) of blood pumped out of the left ventricle with each beat divided by the amount of blood that was inside the ventricle. It means that the left ventricle of the heart (the one that does all of the pumping of blood to the body) pumps out more than 60% of the blood inside the chamber with each heartbeat. This is generally a sign that the left ventricle is pumping very strongly...it is almost never a sign of anything bad, and is usually a good thing.  (+ info)

Somebody please explain to me how the central venous pressure increases with left ventricular failure?

ok
its a circle...just to explain it in simple way..
if left ventricle failed...will lead to pulmonary hypertention...leading to right ventricular hypertrophy then failure...which will lead to venous congestion
i hope i was helpful  (+ info)

Medical Question : Relationship between Left Ventricular Hypertrophy and angina pectoris?

i'm a first year medical i'm wondering if left sided hypertrophy may cause angina pectoris (i think that left vent. hypertrophy cause compression on the coronary vascular system resulting in cardiac myocyte ischaemic pain ) but left vent. hypertrophy is not mentioned as a predisposing factor to angina in my textbook
i'm a medical student and this is academic question
----------

Yes it can. Angina pectoris occurs if there is a mismatch between the blood supply of the heart and the demand for nutrients by the heart muscle. When someone has left ventricular hypertrophy the heart muscle requires more blood supply to supply it's demands. Angina can occur if the blood supply is unable to meet the needs. For example, Aortic stenosis leads to left ventricular hypertrophy and angina is a classic symptom of it. I hope that answers your question, but if not let me know. Good luck with your studies.  (+ info)

Left Ventricular Hypertrophy - What is it exactly?

Hello,

Just got diagnosed with it, and was prescribed norvasc to help regulate blood pressure. It kinda feels like im about to have a heart attack, but then the pain usually goes away if i take ibuprofen. So I know it has something to do with BP, but what exactly is it, how does it effect your heart, and what's the best way to treat it?
----------

The left ventricle is the chamber of your heart that pumps oxygen rich blood out to your body. It can grow(hypertrophy) due to increased workload, usually due to increased preload. Preload is the amount of blood leaving the Left atrium(which leads into your left ventricle). Some people have increased pressure or volume(blood) going into the left ventricle. This causes it to stretch more, but also grows in response to more work. Muscles grow when they have to work harder, it's the basis for working out. The reason this is not a good thing is because it can lead to other problems later on. Keep up with your medications and follow doctors orders to the fullest. Good Luck.  (+ info)

Diffuse disease of the LAD normal left ventricular function?

My angiogram does not suggest that the LAD is suitable for intervention of any kind , I require aggressive management of my risk factors - what does this mean
----------

it means that you need to change your life style drastically, or you will die from heart disease. You need to lose weight, you need to exercise daily, you need to cut fat and salt from your diet. If the LAD is not suitable for intervention, it means they can't do anything for you other than you making lasting changes in your life style, there is already too much damage.  (+ info)

Left Ventricular Hypertrophy. Is this a serious condition?

I recently experienced some chest pains and consequently attended the A&E department of the local hospital. I under went a series of tests and was told everything was ok except I have a mild case of left ventricular hypertrophy.
For several months I have been receiving treatment for hypertension. This remains high at approximately 150 over 90, despite the fact I am taking four different types of medication. My mum and dad both had hypertension.

I run regularly and have completed four marathons. Should I be very concerned, am I worrying too much and is it advisable for me to run? I couldn't really get a definitive answer from my GP.
----------

The BOTTOM LINE here, my friend....is that you MUST find a new doctor soon. First of all, the heart is nothing to mess with. You NEED a doctor that informs you of your diagnoses WITHOUT you practically begging.!!!! Really, please do start looking for a different Cardiologist! RIGHT AWAY!

Second......
Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is the thickening of the myocardium (muscle) of the left ventricle of the heart. While ventricular hypertrophy can occur naturally as a reaction to aerobic exercise and strength training, it is most frequently referred to as a pathological reaction to cardiovascular disease.

While LVH itself is not a disease, it is usually a marker for disease involving the heart. Disease processes that can cause LVH include any disease that increases the afterload that the heart has to contract against, and some primary diseases of the muscle of the heart.

Causes of increased afterload that can cause LVH include aortic stenosis, aortic insufficiency, and hypertension. Primary disease of the muscle of the heart that cause LVH are known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathies.

Diagnosis
The principle method to diagnose LVH is echocardiography, during which the thickness of the muscle of the heart can be measured. The electrocardiogram (ECG) often shows signs of increased voltage from the heart in individuals with LVH, so this is often used as a screening test to determine who should undergo further testing with an echocardiogram.

Please take your heart health seriously, and get with someone who actually INFORM you. Accordingly, I would refrain from any aerobic activity. God Bless you.  (+ info)

can i stil exercise with Left ventricular hypertrophy?

i have recently been diagnosed with Left ventricular hypertrophy, im 21 years old and massively into my athletics (training 3 - 5 times a week) as this places additional strain on the heart and due to the LVH i have fairly servere hypertension (systolic blood pressure at 180 resting pace) will this affect my training?
any help is appreciated
thx
----------

so you are an athlete. i would not hesitate to think that you wont be having one. first of all your an athlete and would definitly be having LVH for your heart really pump those blood so that it would compensate on whatever sport your are doing.

i was thingking that is your still going to continue to have exercise it would help to lower your blood pressure as you have stated that you are now diagnosed having a severe hypertension. but its a NO NO.. i dont think youll be better if youd do exercise at this time. Left ventricular hypertrophy means that your heart gets bigger than it was not before. it also mean that if the muscles of that part of your heart is bigger.. it also means that the blood that should fill the left ventricle, is not the same amount of blood that should fill it in than before.. thereby if you have small volume of blood that should fill it in,you heart will pump out faster and faster and faster as for it would like to get the right amount of blood that it should.. until your heart gets really very tired and it might progress to heart failure...

hope you understand and hope my explanation with your concern really helps :)  (+ info)

The Left Ventricular ejection fraction for a 59 year old woman should be at what percentage to be healthy?

Generally you would like to see it above around 55%, though we really only start to call it heart failure when the EF drops below 35% (more for historical reasons than anything else, that's the borderline that's used in many of the large, influential studies of heart failure)  (+ info)

left ventricular systolic pressure and aoritic systolic pressure?

A person has a left ventricular systolic pressure of 180 mmHg and an aoritic systolic pressure of 100 mmHg. What is the explanation?
