i hate my life because of urinary retention?

ive had every test taken for my urinary retention and still nothing. all my doctor could come up with is that i have a small bladder and its hard for me to empty my bladder completely. i constantly feel the need to pee, and have felt this way for almost 5 years. I'm only 19 years old, and i just don't understand why i have to put up with this. i have to push down on my bladder and strain to even get the pee out, and when i'm done, I STILL have the urge to go. sometimes my pee will come out in dribbles and other times it'll come out in heavier spurts. the longer i hold my pee, the more it seems to come out when i go to use the bathroom. does anyone else have this problem? i get so frustrated because of this, it makes me want to cry =(
PS. i'm a female

what causes urinary retention with multiple myeloma?

Hi, the way they explained it in my dad's case was that the excess calcuim was blocking up his kidneys. The calcium comes from the bones as the cancer erodes them. The kidneys can't handle too much, so dialysis may be required at some point.  (+ info)

Right flank pain + urinary retention/slight burning on urination?

Hello ... hope you all can give me an idea on this.
Over a week ago, I had a severe bacterial infection of my vagina, ovaries, and uterus areas. I was given five days of antibiotic gel for that. Ever since I recovered from that infection, I have had right flank pain going down my hip area with burning on the small of my back ... with what feels like a pinched nerve on the right shoulder, tingling going down my right arm, and aching down my right leg. I also have pain on the left front side after I use the bathroom.

Does this sound like a urinary tract infection or something like that? (I drank over 100 ounces of water yesterday starting at 8 a.m. and did not use the bathroom until seven hours later ... and it felt like I was peeing syrup and it burned a little bit).

(As I'm a medical transcriptionist, my best educational guess is that the original bacterial infection I had a week ago traveled to my bladder or kidneys).

(Spammers: Don't bother to post here; I will report you.)

Best get to your doc to make sure you don't have a secondary infection going on as it may have entered the blood stream. You may need prescription oral antibiotics to knock it out altogether.  (+ info)

what are the clinical symptoms of post op urinary retention and what clinical mangement/interventions are requ

The signs/symptoms are that you aren't urinating as much as you are drinking. Your abdomen may be slightly distended above the hair line and there may be some discomfort there when palpated. A doctor might order a residual urine check...that is you measure the amount of urine that you urinate and then do a catheterization to see how much urine remains in the bladder. You might try sitting on the toilet for a little while longer to see if you can completely empty your bladder on your own. It would have been helpful to know what kind of surgery you had.  (+ info)

Urinary Retention in teen male?

So often when I go to the bathroom I feel like I get 80% out but cant get the rest out. If I "push and release" it may come out slowly, but that is a hassle. I've put up with this for a while, and sometimes I think it is my imagination but I really doubt that. Often I go to the bathroom, then go wash my hands, then I go back to the toilet and I can get more urine out. WTF? Is that normal?

What could be a cause of this? I'm 18 and healthy as far as I know. I had a blood test even and BUN was normal, as was blood sugar. I'm too young for Benevolent enlarged prostate.

Would it be chronic prostatis? Some other internal thing? Neurological (scariest thought)? Other?

I KNOW it is not a UTI, because I got tested for that like 3 times (at checkups) since this has been occcuring. So please no one say UTI.

Hi Mark

It could be scar tissue inside the urethra which narrows the tube where your urine comes through your penis.

It could be a bladder stone that gets in the way of the last part of the urine passing. Ask for an ultra sound scan of your bladder to check for a stone. If it is they can remove it without incision doing a litholaplaxy operation.

It doesn't sound like a neurological problem.

Email me if you want more information.

Partial Urinary Retention 2 Mos Post Nephrectomy-hal?

First week of Feb, my 69 yr old husband had a cancerous kidney removed and has been cathing himself since. This week , he began retaining some urine. The output isn't what it had been. There is no discomfort (yet). He had a hand assisted lap nephrectomy; it was 15 cm!! He is on 2 Bactrim daily-my script.
His first post op appointment is in 3 wks. Is this dangerous? What could the blockage be? He has only urinated normally twice and it produced a couple of ounces. thank you.
**thank you, denise. His urologist gave him 3 Cipro yesterday and took blood. Results tomorrow and we'll go from there. He said his new "slight ache" is better. Im worried about bladder cancer; I always expect the very worst. His aunt died from it.***

His fist postop appointment should have been in February. Yes this is dangerous he needs to see the urologist now.  (+ info)

Could this be urinary retention?

I'm 16. I've been tested for almost everything you can name that involves the bladder. I have seen a urologist and she wasn't much help. I am on Terazosin (calms down the bladder) because they believe i can't empty my bladder all the way. My symptoms are frequent urination, burning during urination, having to go even when done, dribbling after urination, urgency to urinate. When i squeeze my penis it hurts along the whole tract inside all the way to my bladder and the opening to it is very red and irritated. I go about every 30 min to an hour before i feel like I'm going to pee myself. This has been going on for a year now. I do not have diabetes, cancer, UTI, or anything. What can this be?? The reason i am asking you guys is because both of my parents are jobless and they can't afford to bring me back to the doctor and i am truly suffering here! Please help me... Thanks

Sounds like you should be under the care of a doctor. I know you said your parents don't have jobs but there are often free clinics. But I don't know where you live.

Are you a virgin?
How did you rule out the diabetes, cancer, and infection?  (+ info)

My husband went into urinary retention --- but no medical cause?

He's only 31.Tests don't show any underlying medical problem. It's the 2nd time in 2 weeks it happened. Both times it happened after our daughter has said something to hurt him because she thinks he's been too strict on her.
The first time came after he wouldn't let her go out of town with one of her friends' older sister. He thinks the sister is too 'wild'. She screamed she hated him and wished he would "die in a car wreck".He ended up upstairs in the bathroom sobbing and hyperventilating, and couldn't urinate.
By the time I got him to the ER he was calm, but still couldn't go, so they cathed him.
Tests came back he didn't have an infection, no physical reason for this to have happened. They said it could be anxiety.
The same thing happened again tonight with her "wishing him dead" again. He was so emotionally hurt he couldn't talk.
4 hrs later I ended up taking him to the ER, he couldnt urinate - after sitting on the toilet for at least an hour trying. What could cause this?
