I think I may have a urinary tract infection. Is it safe to wait for my gyn/ob appointment in 3 days?

I have my annual checkup with the gynecologist in 3 days, but recently talking to a friend, it appears I have several syptoms of having a urinary tract infection. Should I just wait and tell the doctor in 3 days, or call someone sooner?
----------

The best thing to do would be to call your primary care Dr or your gyn and see if they can get you in before then. The longer it goes untreated the more uncomfortable you will be and it may worsen. If they cant squeeze you in you could try a med center or urgent care facility. If you cant be seen by anyone there are a few things that will help ease some of your symptoms. Drink lots of water and try some cranberry juice. There is a medicine called AZO Cranberry that you can get from the pharmacy.

Here is the product website if you want more info on it.

What is a vitamin I can take to ward off yeast and urinary tract infections?

I seem to get yeast and urinary tract infections very easily. What is something i could get at the health food store to prevent them?? Thanks!
----------

Yogurt is great in attacking those nasty yeast infections. The live and active cultures in them work wonders. As for the urinary tract infections they say that Cranberry Juice works, you can get it concentrated if you don't like to drink the juice.  (+ info)

How do i convince my parents to get me checked up for urinary tract infection?

I think i may have urinary tract infection. My sides and back hurt today, and i always have to pee every 30 minutes or so. How do i convince my parents to at least get me check up for it. They think i worry too much and they might not take me to the doctor.
----------

Nicely point out to them that it's their parental responsibility to make sure you're okay. With symptoms like that, it could be a UTI and it could be something else. As you have already recognised, you need to see a doctor and they will probably want a urine sample.

All the best and good luck. =)  (+ info)

What is needle infiltration in hemodialysis? What is it called when a fistula is "blown."Is this infiltration?

This question is for probsbly dialysis nurses or techs.
At the begining of treatment when there was no problem with needle placement, is it still called "infiltration" when the fistula is "blown" and hematoma occurs?
----------

When a needle is correctly placed the needle makes one hole - into the fistula. An infiltration is when it makes more than one hole - the needle goes into the fistula and then out another side.

A blown fistula is not the same thing as an infiltration. A fistula can blow when the needle first enters the fistula. The vessel wall is too fragile for the needle and the fistula pops or blows like a balloon. It essentially makes a small tear, which is larger than the needle. A needle can also blow once dialysis is initiated. This will most often happen from the venous needle because the exiting blood creates positive pressure in the fistula. This increase in pressure can be too great for the vessel to withstand, causing the vessel to rupture. Again, this is usually a small hole, but the leaking blood can cause quite a large hematoma.  (+ info)

What are some good cures for a urinary tract infection?

I have a urinary tract infection and I have had it for a lil over a week. I saw a doctor and I took the antibiotics and drank lots of water and cranberry juice. It still hasn't gone away. I have tried drinking tons of water, drinking cranberry juice, and antibiotics. What else can I do to cure it?
----------

You need to return to your physician for another UA and possibly another course of antibiotics. Sometimes it takes two courses of an antibiotic, or a course of a stronger, different antibiotic, to clear up a UA.

Cranberry juice is used to prevent UTIs, not treat them. It supposedly prevents bacteria from "sticking" to the bladder and other parts of the urinary system. It does not "wash out" bacteria and it doesn't kill bacteria. (It is a good healthy drink, though; I drink cranberry/pomegranate juice to help prevent UTIs.)  (+ info)

Do I have a urinary tract infection? How long before it gets really bad?

I think I have a urinary tract infection. I won't be able to go to the doctor until Thursday and I was wondering if its okay if I waited or if I should go to the doctor immediately? Also is there anyway I can stop the pain in the meantime? I heard that drinking lots of water and cranberry juice helps. Also as a side, what really causes urinary tract infections? I've never had anything like this before.
----------

I don't know why you can't go to the dr. now (maybe cause they can't get you in?) Either way it would be better to leave them a sample even if the dr. can't see you. If the dr. that can't see you is a primary dr. try your gyn dr. or vice versa. UTI's can go into the kidneys if not treated. The best thing to do is drink lots of fluid to help flush the bladder but you will need antibiotics. By the time you see the dr. on Thursday they should hopefully have the results in by then. I hope you told them the reason why you need to be seen. They shouldn't make you wait to get in and they will have to send the sample to the lab which can take a few days anyway to get back. Sometimes they can do a dipstick test as a preliminary but it doesn't mean that it will come back positive if you have an infection. Sometimes it comes back clear and then the lab test shows up positive.

Be careful about over the counter meds as some of them may contain an antimicrobial in it and may cause a false negative result. I looked at one called Cystex and found that it had some bacteria fighters in it so I didn't take it.

The cause of UTI's can be from bacteria being pushed up to the front because the entrances are closer together in females. Women can get them after sex too. They can cause you to have some burning and urgency (peeing every few minutes even when there is barely anything to come out). I have had bleeding after I went so many times.

Hopefully a dr. can get you on some antibiotics if you can't wait for the lab work to come back. I'd be safe and tell them you are going to leave a sample as you are very uncomfortable. If you start to get a fever let your dr. know even if you have to call the answering service. I've called my dr. back after just seeing him that same day and rather than having me wait till the lab work came back he called me in some Cipro which is a powerful antibiotic.

Also the dr. can call in something prescription strength for the burning and urgency. I've had better luck with some of the things the dr. gave me and it didn't stain my clothing orange. One medication I can think of is Urelle. It's a purple coated pill and it may give you a light blue or green urine but I didn't have to worry about my clothes being stained. The orange stuff like Uristat another over the counter medicine for pain can be hard to wash off. You will most likely need to wear a pad cause it can be all over down there. Good luck and feel better  (+ info)

What could cause the ejaculation of semen to be restricted somewhat and a weaker urinary stream?

I have noticed upon ejaculation a lot of my ejaculation does not come out but rather has to be squeezed out, and my urinary stream is weak. These two symptoms must be related, what could be causing this? And What are treatment options?

Doctor suggested a tight sphincter, and prescribed Uroxatral, but it didn't really help.
----------

Prostate troubles make it more difficult to urinate, and the prostate is also involved in "propelling" semen. This is EXTREMELY common among men older than 30. It's not that big a deal if it gets a little bit inflamed. You can ask your doctor to check it out.

Cranberry juice is good for your prostate. Also, take a Men's vitamin every day as they have lycopene and possibly other prostate health supplements.  (+ info)

What are other treatments for tooth abscess and fistula except distraction of the tooth?

What are other treatments for tooth abscess and fistula except distraction of the tooth since oral surgery hadn't helped?
----------

When you had the oral surgery, was a root canal performed? If so, that is the last ditch effort to say the tooth. If the fistula and the infection does not resolve in 2-4 weeks after having thins done, then extraction is your only option.  (+ info)

How do I get rid of an awfull urinary tract infection?

I have a urinary tract infection and it is fierce! started off with frequency, then blood in my urine, then pain, alot of pain at the end of my urination, and now not being able to control weather or not I pee my pants sometimes. Been on meds for a week and it doesn't seem to be working. Help Me Please. Any advice? I feel like I need a diaper. Will someone give me some advice on what I should do.
----------

Cranberry juice can sometimes help a kidney infection in the beginning if you catch it soon enough, but usually it needs to be treated by a doctor. You could also be trying to pass a kidney stone. This will definitely cause blood in the urine and all the pain. I have had kidney infections bad enough to be hospitalized, and have also had a few bouts with small stones. It is really miserable. You need to see a doctor asap....  (+ info)

What are some foods that you can eat to help your Urinary System?

I'm doing research on the urinary system (for school, haha not just for fun) and I'm having trouble finding foods that you can eat to help it. I already have water, that's on every website. Also, things that you shouldn't eat, activities that you can do, or basically anything that helps your urinary system would also be appreciated. Thanks!
----------

The acid in cranberry juice helps slow bacterial growth in urinary tract infections.

Kegel exercises help strengthen the lower abdominal wall and improve urinary continence.

People with some kidney problems need to eat less protein because the large molecules clog the filtering vessels.

People who get kidney stones need to monitor their calcium intake because excess calcium can contribute to kidney stone formation.

Do some research on these if you want. Hope these ideas inspire you.  (+ info)
