I've been lifting a lot recently and added more weight to my workout and I think my arm finally gave in to the added weight and caused a hairline fracture in my ulna. Is rest and time the only thing that will heal it?

My friend broke his ulna and radius today in a wrestling meet and is going into surgery tomorow to get a pin. how long will he be in a cast?
Depending on the severity of the injury...After surgery your friend will be wrapped up for approximately 2 weeks. After-wards the wraps will come off and he will be fitted with another type of support and start therapy almost immediately. After this your friend can expect to be in therapy for months and his arm will start feeling like his arm in a year or so. Its a slow process but don't be discouraged.  (+ info)

I got in a car accident(Driver side tbone with windows down) and I'm beinging to think I got one of those two because occasionaly I lose all feeling in my left hand anything below where the said fracture/crack would be. I have a pretty high pain treshold so I don't know what one would feel like. I only get discomfort when ever I move my hand in awkward positons.
The symptoms you are describing sound more like nerve or tendon damage at the site of the 'crack'. You didn't give enough other information to say much else, but have an Orthopedic MD take a look at it. You need your hands all your life.  (+ info)

how serious is a buckle fracture of the radius, and an ulna scaphoid fracture?

My 8yr old was in pe yesterday and fell. She has a buckle fracture and a ulna scaphoid fracture. She cried at impact, but hasnt shown much pain since then. Is this something that should be causing her pain..or does she have a high pain tollerence? he said the buckle was on both sides of her radius. will this require surgery,
the worst of the injuries is the scaphoid fracture. it is the slowest healing of all the bones. this type of fracture you do not want to mess around with and if it is not healed up in 8 weeks ( x-ray will confirm healing) i would consult a orthopedic surgeon. basically there is two blood vessels that come into this bone and it depends on where the break is on weather it will heal up. most kids that break this bone dont even know that they broke it- they just think they sprained it. this bone is located at the base of the thumb where it attaches to the radius.  (+ info)

I have two hair line fractures in my ulna but I don't think they are bad because I only have dull pain however I'm really active, I play soccer and am running a marathon. Will they give me a cast??

I got it out of the cast almost 2 weeks ago and im worried that I wont be able to return to a full range of motion. Im also worried this makes it more likely that I will fracture my wrist.
I broke mine 35 years ago and always considered it just to expensive to fix.
It only hurts when I do blunt force tasks and when there is a low pressure system around. opening jars can make it feel just like the day I broke it.
Just another pain to deal with forever. Such is life.
Alieve seems to work when it hurts and a DMSO treatment will make the pain go away for sometime.
And yes I have developed an arthritic spur on the break.  (+ info)

How long does it take for a broken ulna to heal?

A 16 year-old gets attacked by a tiger at the zoo...The tiger bit into her ulna and cut a vein..They managed to put the ulna back in place without any pieces of bone missing. How long do you think it will take to heal an injury like that?
The ulna was indeed broken, and had to be put back in place...
2-3 weeks if there is no infection. The injury you described would be bandaged and not casted, because there was not a broken bone. The bulk of the healing processes would occur in the repair of the vein by the clotting of blood, and the skin being stitched together.
The stitches will be removed in 1.5 weeks. And the internal bleeding and swelling will subside within 3 weeks if properly taken care of.

If there is loss of mobility in the limb, there is a longer down time as Physical therapy is needed. That cannot be determined till the bandages are removed and movement can be tested.

Edit (because of additional details): Now with a broken ulna things get a little more complicated. If stitches were put in for broken skin, they will be dissolvable and they will just disappear naturally. The whole arm will be put in either a fiberglass or plaster cast and set depending on whether the bone was damaged at the elbow (the cast will be longer) or just at the wrist (short arm cast). The time will vary be age of the patient, but will be around 4 weeks for the whole healing process. If movement is determined to be limited after healing, there will be around 2-3 months of physical therapy.  (+ info)

Does your husband have recent urinary/bowel incontinent problem or motor weakness or sensory loss in both legs? If so see a physician ASAP as he may be suffering from cauda equina syndrome. It is also advisable to see the physician as an MRI is likely to determine the extent of damage. Spinal decompression surgery might be warranted if spinal damage is severe. Unfortunately, at this point it sounds like over the counter medication will provide minimal help. NSAID (naproxen) can alleviate some inflammation and provide some relief, but it sounds like you need something stronger that only a physician can prescribe. Best wishes.  (+ info)

I'm talking about that area in your forearm between your radius and ulna bones. Is there a particular name for it? Is it a notch or a magnum? Can someone please tell me what it is? I know it's a pressure point, but is there a specific name for it?
What is the name of that area where your inner forearm intersects with your wrist? That's really what I'm referring to
I'm afraid I've never been truly interested in finding out. Perhaps while in anatomy class I was doing something else to the wax figures from which we studied..because to this day, I know the anatomy by eye, only. Terms and names never seemed important to me, since I was in art and did not feel that a dependence on anatomy, (unlike a student of medicine) was truly necessary to know and remember.  (+ info)
