I have a complex cyst on my ovary. Will it go away on its own?

Hi everyone. I month ago I had an ultrasound done and this was the finding:

"The left ovary is enlarged, measuring 6 cm x 5.3 cm x 5.3 cm. Within the left ovary is a complex cystic structure measuring 4.4 x 4.8 x 4.5 cm. Some sepatation is present with half of the cystic structure having either dense internal debris or a somewhat solid component. No color flow is appreciated in this abnormal half of the cystic structure. No other mass or lesion or free fluid is present wihtin the left adnexa. This is a nonspecific finding and both benign and malignat etiologies must be considered. Recommend standard, short interval follow-up ultrasound to documented regression and/or stability."

Thanks for you input.

I had the same thing happen to me only my measurments of the cyst and ovary were slightly smaller. Anyway I was put on birth control pills for three months and then had another ultrasound and everything had shrunk back to it's normal size. Good luck with you!  (+ info)

Complex Ovarian Mass - Endometrioma or Functional Cyst?

Hi,

I was hoping that someone could provide me with some advice. Below are my reports, this has been going on for more than 10 months. I saw one Gynecological Oncologist and she said that the reports show functional cysts (despite having them for 10 months) that will go away by themselve and no treatment is needed. That was last week.

I saw another Gynecological Oncologist this morning for a second opinion and she said that they are Endometrioma. She has scheduled an Trans-vaginal ultrasound for Jamuary 21, and I will get those results from her on February 4, 2009.

I am completely confused. I do not know which one to trust. Worse still - will these continue to grow? What if they are neither? My CA125 was 63. My father died of colon cancer and my paternal Aunt of Breast Cancer.

My first report dated February 8, 2008 states:
Endometrium double layer thickness is just over 7mm.
The uterus is anteverted with overall diameters 37x40x76mms. There
appears to be a fibroid subserosal posterior at the fundus 24x19x14mms.
In the cervix, there is a little cyst 8mms.
The right ovary is 34x28x22mmx. Here we find 2 follicles or a
biloculted cyst with a thick septum, more likely that these represent 2
adjacent follicles.
The septation between the two are little hyper vascular.
The left ovary is 30x30x28mms contains a follicle 13x8mms.
The cul-de-sac is clear and the bladder appear normal.

Report 2 dated Sept 22, 2008:
The uterus measures 7.7x4.8x3.7cm. There is a fibroid at the fundus
measuring 2.2cm. Endometrial lining is 0.4cm. In both
adnexa there are abnormalities. On the left there is a complex
primarily solid but inhomogeneous irregular mass measuring
6.1x4.1x3.7cm. On the right there is one measuring 2.5x2.4x2.3cm.
Sorry, should have mentioned that I am 37 years old, have never had kids, and got my period when I was 13. Symptoms: bloating pelvic tenderness, lower back and leg pain, headaches, constant need to urinate (sometimes a lot, sometimes a false call!) and extremely tired. Very heavy and painful menses.
----------

Hi. Sorry to hear about all this trouble you've been having. I had ovarian cancer some years ago. Of course I can't say what exactly is wrong with you, if two gyn oncs who examined you are both unsure what you have. So I can't make any judgment one way or the other. But if I were you, I'd schedule an appointment with another gyn onc for a third opinion. You can bring your scans. It sounds like the second gyn onc isn't too worried, or she'd have scheduled further testing immediately rather than in a month.

Your symptoms could mean a variety of things--that's one of the difficulties of ovarian cancer. Its symptoms are also the symptoms of many common and not terribly dangerous ovarian problems. Likewise your CA-125. This test, while used for detection of ovarian cancer, is actually testing something that rises in your body in the presence of any abdominal inflammation. So the things you currently have--a cyst, maybe uterine fibroids--could cause a rise in CA-125 all on their own, with no need for them to be cancerous.

Good luck!  (+ info)

Large partially pedunculated fibroid leiomyoma 10.2 x 8.6 x 9.7 of the anterior uterus... HELP?

In a way I can tell I’m blessed why? In 2008 I used to blame myself and others who caused a car accident that I was in. I lost so much after that accident not being able to have the very good health and physic I used to have. From 162 no I weight 210. I went to so many doctors after my accident because my neck and back was really in pain. I finally found a doctor who did thank lord give me hope that everything could go back to normal. Until the other day my chiropractors to finish my treatment cause my insurance almost with no balance, he told me that he will MRI my back. When they did they found and confirmed that I had a herniated disc L5-S1 that this accident had make worst because a previous chiropractor told me I had a disc problem before 3 days before the accident etc... But that MRI for my back shows a growing mass inside my pelvic. They send me for a pelvic ultrasound. Also the days of the MRI my tummy to the right side move so much that was crazy and I was extremely dizzy. Result came like that:

Age: 26
Sex: Female

History: Pelvic pain with heavy menses.

Finding: utilizing a full urinary bladder as an acoustic window, the pelvis was evaluated and the uterus is in a normal anteverted/anteflexed orientation measuring 8.4 x 9.8 x 8.0 cm. The uterus contains a very large anterior complex leiomyoma, which measures 10.2 x 8.6 x 9.7 cm. The right and left adnexa are normal. There is no free fluid within the cul-de-sac.

Impression: There is a large soft tissue mass involving the anterior uterus almost certainly representing a large partially pedunculated leiomymoma, which measures 10.2 x 8.6x 9.7 cm. This is an otherwise normal study.

I had so many symptoms related to this now I realized when I make search, I though it was normal to have these symptoms or I was like that but I was in silence sick.

-I always had heavy period since a teen
-around 2 to 3 days
-only when lose weight in 2007 my period is around 5 to 6 days with no pain at all.
-sometimes painful period who changed to be worst now, and right side got worst in last 3 years with clog blood peace going aout.
-constipation on and off but now for my period this month my belly got so big and bloated and I was constipated now I started going again.
-I always fell pain when I’m ovulating like I’m having my period on my right ovaries side and pain bit after period since 1 year ½ now.
-My right side belly itch me so much when I eat sugar or bad food or fell like biting me inside to my skin.
-when I crave too much sugar and eat really too much I have a gluant mucus think like mucus and clear going out my vagina with no smell, sometimes itch lightly. When I take the GSE grapseed oil it's ok.
-under my skin all over my body something fell like stuff crawling.
-end 2007/start 2008 after doing a master cleanse I start noticing theses itch on my right side belly. And I was for 2 months on and off yeast infection diagnosed was Candida vaginitis.
-during the cleanse fell like one day my right ovary need to go out like something pulling out.
- I never tried to cleanse my body ever since.

Please God is giving an opportunity to heal myself. By showing me that I have been sick for years trough all this tragedy, I discover it. Please give me information about my condition anyone is welcome/ what food to eat and not/ what life to lead/ what supplement to takes/ what natural medicine is good/ what surgery is involved/ do this fibroids turn into cancer. HELPPPPPPP PLEASE.

I will see a doctor this Tuesday and hope better news and hope he tells I will be able to have 1 baby.

Can I still be pregnant if the Ultrasound showed empty sac?

Ok so Friady i went to my doc with an annoying right lower abd pain. He sent me to the ER for a cat scan thinking it may be my appendix. While i was there they did ask when was my LMP, i said i currently had it but was very light. I got it on 9/9 and only wore a tampon for 1 day....TMI sorry but it was never red only brown. Anyway they did the scan and it came back fine, so they wanted to do a internal and ultrasound, thinking maybe it was a cyst.

Here is the confusing part. Ultra sound show an empty sac and than then did a blood preg test which came back negative. Im so confused. My previous LMP was 8/8 and i did get what i thought was my period on 9/9 but again it was brown for about a day or two. They said that i was pregnant and the cells never developed into a baby and i did not need a DNC.

The last time i had sex was on 8/13 and 8/19...is it too soon to show up in my blood test or too soon to see the abby growing in the sac.

Im so sad and confused. Anyone ever go through this and actually be pregnant and have a healthy pregancy or go something else?

Thanks for your help!! :(

This is what the US report states:
FINDINGS: The uterus measures 8.3X5.0X6.9 cm. Endometrium measures 8 mm. There is a well defined fluid collection in the fundus which measures approximately 4mm in diameter. Findings may represent an early gestational sac. Clinical correlation recommended. Adnexa are unremarkable. No evidence of torsion, adnexal mass, or free fluid.

WAS IT TOO EARLY TO SHOW UP ON MY BLOOD AND URINE TEST AND IN THE SAC? OR COULD I BE MISSCARRYING?

FYI, I only bled brown for maybe a day and half and did wear tampons, and at times it was a medium flow, but never red only brown.

Thanks again for all your help.

i went to the doctor the day after I took a pregnancy test(positive). the doctor saw and empty sac and I was 5 weeks pregnant. I went to the lab the same day for a blood pregnancy test that came back positive. what kind of pregnancy test did you get?
we didn't see anything in the sac till around week 8  (+ info)

Will I need a reproductive organ surgery? If yes, what kind?

im a 37yr old single female who experienced severe abdominal pain. normal monthly period; experienced abdominal cramps about 2x per year only. never been pregnant;

ultrasound test results:
-anteverted uterus 77x47x45mm with irregular contour & inhomogenous myometrial echotexture.
-varisized, round hypoechoic foci in the posterior border of the uterus (23x17mm) in lower uterine segment & (26x22mm) in the fundus.
-echogenic endometrial stripe is 6mm in its full thickness
-large, round, hetero focus inteh right adnexa measuring 54x35mm while the left ovary measures 31x15mm with few round thin-walled anechoic focus within the left ovary representing dominant physiologic follicle.
IMPRESSION:
-uterine fibroids as described
-right adnexal mass probably ovarian in origin
-clinical co-relation suggested for further evaluation.
----------

Your uterus is normal in size, and so is the endometrial stripe. If your periods are normal, no extra heavy bleeding or pain, then the fibroids are probably not a problem at this time.

The left ovary sounds normal. Follicles are small cysts that develop naturally during the cycle - that is where the eggs get released from.

The right ovary sounds to have a large, somewhat abnormal cyst, could look heterogeneous on ultrasound due to blood or other protein type material in it ( a "hemorrhagic cyst")

If you are not having pain associated with the right side of your pelvis, your doctor will probably keep you under observation and do another ultrasound in 2-3 months (after a couple more menstrual cycles) to see if there is any change on the right. These kind of cysts generally resolve on their own but the doctors like to keep an eye on them until they do.

Another thing might be if or when the cyst ruptures there could be some pain - I had a cyst rupture once and the pain was really intense for a few minutes, really scary, but then was only a mild discomfort that went away after a day or so. I had known there was a cyst there, but it still took me by surprise.

As far as the future, can't make any predictions. The fibroids could get larger and become a problem, or the doctor might decide he wants to take out the cyst on the right ovary - it's kind of a wait and see situation. Good luck.  (+ info)

Fibroids are clumps of uterine extra tissue overgrowths, some do not cause any discomfort and the ones that are larger and that will need to be surgically removed through an incision like a c-section to basically go into the uterus . If you are 26 years old, and want children, make sure that they leave your ovaries, tubes and uterus intact and NOT TO REMOVE THEM and only remove the fibroids. However, if your doctor suggests that something be removed so the fibroids don't come back and start growing again? Ask him what your options are. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor all the questions you have. Make a short list and take it with you to your appointment. Be ready with some questions.

You will be OK. Have faith, and speak to someone at Social Security and start some benefits, you need to speak to a counselor, a dietician, and you need alot of support, emotional and medically. And try to have someone with you all the time, because you shouldn't be alone in this.  (+ info)

Ovarian Mass - Should I be worried?

Report 2 dated Sept 22, 2008:
The uterus measures 7.7x4.8x3.7cm. There is a fibroid at the fundus measuring 2.2cm. Endometrial lining is 0.4cm. In both adnexa there are abnormalities. On the left there is a complex primarily solid but inhomogeneous irregular mass measuring 6.1x4.1x3.7cm. On the right there is one measuring 2.5x2.4x2.3cm.

I had another ultrasound on November 6 - I do not have the results. I am due to see my Gynecologist on December 16. For now she says suggests that we do another ultrasound in 6 weeks - it has already been 10 months and we know that the mass is growing. Do the above reports suggest anything that I should be concerned about?

I am 37 years old (28 on January 10). I have not had any children. Last week I found out that my FSH levels are 15. My father died of gastrointestinal cancer, my mother kidney cancer, and my paternal Aunt had breast and kidnehy cancer.
Thank-you for your answers. To be honest I have not been going for yearly check-ups - in fact the one I had in Feb. 2008 was my first in over 8 years, I despise going. What is frusturating is that I keep getting told to wait, and meanwhile it continues to grow!
----------

i wouldn't WORRY as such, but yes this is not normal.

a cyst is common, it does not have to be cancerous and if it is problematic it will be removed.
It sounds like you might have some cancer. if you have been having regular yearly checks then hopefully you have caught it in the early stages which means that it is not a big deal at all. One in 8 woman get cervical cancer.

You dr should be explaining all this to you.  (+ info)

Is pelvis free fluid normal?

I just had a pelvic/abdominal MRI because I was dx w/peritoneal carcinomatosis last year. Here's what it said:

Findings: Normal
Vascular: Normal. No lymphadenopathy
Pelvic Sidewalls: Uterus and adnexa are unremarkable as visualized. No evidence of adnexal mass. There is a small amount of free fluid within the pelvis.
Conclusion: Unremarkable MRI of the pelvis. No MR evidence of lymphadenopathy, mass, or abnormal enhancement.

Should I be concerned about that small amount of free fluid?

Thank you,
Melissa

Melissa,no problem with the small amount of free fluid. Read

I need help reading a ct scan!?

There are some words on my scan that i don't quite understand
if i can just write here what it says i think that you might get the jist
Pelvis: The bladder rectum uterus and ovaries are unremarkable(that i get)
There is a peripheral ring of enhancement surrounding a low attenuation or fluid density centrally. This is consistent with the findings on recent pelvic ultrasound on 04/07/2010(i don't get that)
now this measures 1.9x1.4cm.
Impression: apparent cystic lesion in the left adnexa with peripheral rim of enhancement(i don't get this)

thanks if you can help
----------

It sounds like you had an abnormal pelvic ultrasound and were then sent for CT...

"peripheral ring of enhancement surrounding a low attenuation or fluid" basically is them describing a cyst (a fluid-filled sac). This cyst is likely the abnormality which was seen on the ultrasound that you had prior to the CT.

"left adnexa" = left ovary

Basically, you have a cyst on your left ovary.  (+ info)

please can someone help im going out of my mind?

I went into the hospital about a month ago with pains in my right side they never tested me for anything they just sent me home with anti biotics and said they thought it was a pelvic infection.

I had to go back in around a week ago because i had took the anti biotics and the pain has not got better its got worse and i was bleeding for 11 days.

I also noticed when i was having sex that if pressure was put on my right side the pain was unbarable.

I was addmited back in to hospital and was in there for a couple of days they did an ultra sound and the results were

a thin continuous endrometrial echo and free fluid in the POD / right adnexa.

I know through the results that i havent got POD or anyother urine infection, i was sent home with morphene and some other strong pain killers and know i am just waiting for the doctor.

Can anyone tell me what my results mean from the ultrasound as all the things i am looking up are cancer and menopause and i am only 26.

The results only came in yesterday so the doctors at the hospital just thought it was POD.

Any help would be great thanks.
I havent got any infection this is whats worrying me does anyone know anything in regards to my scan results thanks
