If direct examination of the sputum from a case of suspected pulmonary tuberculosis fails to reveal acid-fast?

...organisms, what further bacteriological methods should be employed?
----------

cultures taken from the throat and sputum should be made and grown to identify the organism responsible. Sometimes it's the only way to get a definitive diagnosis of TB, which is notoriously difficult to capture. If there is evidence on the xray, then that should be the next step. Takes a while to grow, though- and the culture needs to be from deep expectoratation sputum samples, not just the usual cough and spit.  (+ info)

what happens to the lungs with pulmonary tuberculosis?

Primary pulmonary TB develops in the minority of people whose immune systems do not successfully contain the primary TB infection. In this case, the disease may occur within weeks after the primary infection. TB may also lie dormant for years and reappear after the initial infection is contained. Pulmonary TB is a contagious bacterial infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The lungs are primarily involved, but the infection can spread to other organs. TB effecting the lungs by breaking down tissue of the alveoli that is responsible for gas, or oxygen exchange with the environment. Some side effects of pulmonary TB are wheezing, excessive sweating, especially at night
chest pain, breathing difficulty. These are all a result of the lung tissue either being broken down or mutated to not do their function. In some cases fluid collects in the lungs as well as dangerous toxins from the environment. This is due to the fact that the lung can no longer expel the pathogen (toxin, disease). Pulmonary TB is serious and should be seen by a doctor as soon as possible. If you've already been diagnosed explore your treatment options but try to find a quick and complete solution to your TB. Take care of yourself.  (+ info)

how Pulmonary tuberculosis develops? ?

I'm curious about pulmonary tuberculosis.. how it develops? any answer please?
----------

Pulmonary tuberculosis is usually caused by a bacteria (mycobacterium tuberculosis) this species of bacteria has been linked with humans for thousands (and supposedly millions) of years.

From the moment someone is infected with mycobacterium tuberculosis they spread the disease. Usually through sneezing, coughing, speaking etc.

TB is then treated with a wide range of antibiotics because of some strains of TB that are resistant to antibiotics. This is passed on the same way that MTB is passed on.  (+ info)
