Whats the best alternative to tooth loss...?
I have a friend that had beautiful teeth at one time, and down the years, she didn't have the funds to keep up with dental care and now she's lost a good bit of her teeth. Thank God they're all in the back, but now she has 2 teeth that have cavities and are going to have to come out eventually. One is next to the front tooth, and the other is the front tooth. When she speaks, now she has a permanent lisp because this hole is getting bigger and bigger. She is not even 40 yet, and she's dreading them coming out, and she may have to get dentures. Does anyone have any other alternatives to dentures, thats not expensive or is she going to have to opt for dentures...and how do I tell her. No one will know the difference, but she's very attractive and she's afraid of losing her teeth in any event.
----------
Depending on her situation, a bridge may be a good option for replacing her front teeth. In order to do a bridge, the teeth on either side of the space would need to be structurally sound enough to support the bridge. To replace the missing back teeth, a removable partial denture would be the most affordable route. It is very important to replace those back teeth, because they are meant to take the brunt of chewing food, and when they're gone, we have to chew with our front teeth, which are really meant more for cutting and tearing the food. This means that the front teeth wear down much faster. There are ways of making partial dentures now that are very natural looking, without all the gaudy wire clasps showing like in years past. I wish your friend the best of luck and hope that she gets the best care possible so that she can stay healthy and beautiful. (

Will there be further loss of bone on the tooth if no deep cleaning done/treatment on periodontitic patient?
What are the treatments for a periodontitic patient?? When my cousin was diagnosed periodontitic on his upper gum, the periodontist told him to let his wounded gum (referring to the pocket) to recover by itself, and the periodontist performed a general cleaning on his gum (mainly on his lower gum), instead of a deep cleaning on the affected upper gum. Will there be a further loss of bone if there is no deep cleaning on the pocket?? Will the pocket heal by itself completely?? It has been 9 days since the general cleaning was done on his gum, and although there is a little improvement, however, he can still feel the nerve of the affected tooth especially when his lower tooth touches the affected upper tooth, and he is still unable to chew his food on the affected tooth. Is this temporary?? He feels rather uncomfortable. Are his gum and tooth healing??
Can anyone please help. Thank you very much.
No follow-up visit, No prescription or advice was given by the periodontist. What can my cousin do now?
----------
Go to another dentist. In the process of bone loss (pockets) there is always a follow up. You need to check to see if it was successful. Google Hand Scaling and Root Planeing to see the process and outcome. (

will an infected tooth (if left without treatment) cause hearing loss ?
I have an infected tooth (molar) that requires a root canal. i have put this off due to lack of insurance. In the last two weeks i have noticed a slight loss of hearing on the same side as my tooth.
Could this be related?
----------
Yes, the hearing loss you are experiencing could be related to your infected tooth. I understand the costs associated with root canals, but if it is infected you need to be seen by and MD who can prescribe antibiotics.
The swelling from the tooth infection or the infection itself could damage the nerves and cause permanent and irreversible damage which will only cost more in the long term (hearing aids, physical therapy, etc). The nerves that move the muscles in your face and jaw are also in the same area as well as the ones that allow you to feel your face. If these nerves were to be damaged you could lose the ability to move your face and chew.
Please see and MD regarding the infection ASAP (
