Minocycline and tooth discoloration?

I was taking minocycline for acne for about 12-15 years and my doctor never told me about the side effects and now my teeth are disgusting and gray. Is there any way to sue my doctor for continuing to renew a prescription for so long without following up with me to see if I was having any side effects like discoloration? The doctor also told me it would "go away in 3-6 months" but that appears to be a lie too. Any help would be appreciated...
So that's it? I have to go to the dentist and pay to have my teeth whitened or put veneers? Seems so unjust when they kept renewing the prescription without even seeing me for years. I had no idea this was going to happen. : (

YOUR DOCTOR IS PLAIN STUPID
WHY
MINOCYCLINE, A KIND OF TETRACYCLINE, ALWAYS HAS TOOTH DARKENING EFFECTS WHEN GIVEN TO KIDS BEFORE THE AGE OF 8.

YOU MAY NEED TO HAVE A >SNAP ON SMILE" BY YOU DENTIST
edit: take this doctor to small claims and have him pay the cost of tooth whitening, after you get an estimate from a dentist. YOU WILL WIN IN ANY COURT. YOUR CASE IS SOLID.  (+ info)

A bit of discoloration, pain in the tooth... cavity?

Well basically whenever I clench my back jaw, the upper part (2nd to last molar) There's a bit of more yellow-yness to that tooth than others.

It all started when I went to the dentist, basically there was a new nurse/assistant person who cleaned my teeth, but It hurt so bad. The toothbrush felt like a drill and the floss felt like knives, my back upper molars were sore for the next two days since it was scraped. Then it was ok but after about 4 days it started having a light pain... like a 'doiong' .... well paint that's like that.

I think a cavity might be starting, It's around the base of the tooth at the gum... I noiced after the dentists, there are a couple notches in my teeth ;_; What can I do?

You problem appears to be very small......little bit sensitivity after getting one's teeth scrpaed is just normal. Dont worry about that. Regarding notches on the teeth, i would say that had these been bigger/ deeper enough to require fillings, your dentists would have advised you about that..............but, I suppose these must be just scratches at the necks of teeth..............just do the brushing using correct technique and dont worry much about these notches. If they are still disturbing( i feel these should not be!!), you may see your dentist.  (+ info)

What should i choose between vaneers and crown for my discoloration of my front tooth?

The color of my two front teeth changed. I also got a root canal on them. My dentist told me that I need to cover the two front teeth to make them look clean and nice. If I get a crown I need to shave the teeth and place the crown over the teeth. I am worried that if I shave my teeth...it will become weaker and might have a problem with them in the future. Did anyone have problem with their front tooth after shaved? I so, would vaneers be a better option. I heard that only a thin a mount of the tooth is shaved to place the vaneer....

i have to get a root canal on my front tooth, worried about discoloration?

Well they said after..in a bout TWO years id get a crown, or when it starts to discolor. number one. i dont WANT to wait til it turns UGLY! and number two when you get a crown, you have to put a temporary on it first, which is COPPER colored and i dont want to look like a rapper! im 17 and im freaking out since it is my front tooth and i really dont want it to look bad. any suggestions? should i get veneers? or what?
----------

hi I'm a dentist.. your tooth will not discolor overnight so don't worry. and they probably are waiting till you are older to place a crown on your root canaled tooth. if they do decide to place a crown now, then your temporary will not be copper! its white just like your tooth and will not be ugly  (+ info)

Will a good dental cleaning change the discoloration in my teeth?

I don't drink coffee or tea but I do each ketchup and colored food and I've noticed the gaps of my bottom teeth get stained will a good dental cleaning help?
Flossing and brushing isn't helping. I have gotten a cleaning in 2 1/2 years.
----------

These are just external stains and a good cleaning and polishing by the hygienist, will remove them. Good luck.  (+ info)

How do I get rid of discoloration on the crowns of my teeth?

I use crest white strips so the front of my teeth are nice and white, but the tops/crowns and indents of my teeth are discolored. How do I remedy that?
it's all the little valleys in the crowns that are discolored.
----------

that's because crest white strips don't effectively whiten all of your teeth. i'd take a bit of a break from whitening (don't want to cause sensitivity) and then pick up a gel based product like simply white (which is super cheap - about $7-10). this will be able to get into the grooves and crevices much better than a flat strip. plus, it's good for maintaining whiter teeth.  (+ info)

tooth discoloration in children?

A tooth will discolor if the nerve has been damaged. Has the child recently had a fall where his or her teeth were hit? I've seen this happen very often. Take the child to the dentist to find out exactly what's going on.  (+ info)

what are treatments for infant teeth discoloration and erosions?

My 3 year old have very bad teeth discolorations and erosions problem. Its almost like his enamel is completely eroded and now it has a brownish color. I took him to the dentist, but they only changed his toothpaste and said its because of the antibiotics he took as a premie while he was in the hospital. Now his teeth are so worn down its almost at his gumline. I need to do something else, but have no idea what i am looking for.
----------

We understand that this problem is perplexing. the best idea is to actually go to a pedodontist (Child specialist). They may give him protective composite crowns temporarily or recommend extractions. This may be sufficient for him to hold his bite and enable him to chew. At 6 years his molars and lower front teeth will be growing and will replace his current teeth.  (+ info)
