How long is the recovery for impacted wisdom tooth removal?

I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed on Tuesday. It is now Saturday and I still cannot close my mouth because my cheeks are so swollen. The swelling seems to have spread to my throat a little bit, because when I touch that area it hurts a little bit. My Oral Surgeon didn't give me a syringe to clean out the wounds, which I feel like he should have. I also have some bruising on my cheeks and eye, although I know this is normal (same thing happened to my girlfriend). What I'm really wondering is how long it'll take before the swelling will go down and I'll be able to eat normal food again. Christmas is two days away and I'd like to be able to enjoy it.
----------

Some people swell up like a blow fish when they have their wisdom teeth removed. Some do not. Put ice packs on the swelling, take some motrin and relax. You can now rinse out your mouth with salt water. You could have started that after 24 hours. Drink lots of liquids. Watch for fever or increased pain. Call the dentist if that happens. He did not give you a syringe because it is necessary for a blood clot to form in order for healing to take place, otherwise you develop something called a dry socket and that is VERY painful. Rinsing out the socket is not something you want to do. The swelling should be going down my christmas day although not gone. You will be able to enjoy Christmas dinner maybe in slower and smaller bites.  (+ info)

How can I keep my Impacted wisdom tooth from swelling?

Okay, I have two impacted wisdom teeth. As I write this, one of them is bleeding a little and hurts and it looks as if it may be swelling-that's what it feels like. I tried brushing my teeth again and then rinsing my mouth with warm salt water and I even tried putting ice on it. Please help. It hurts. And I have to work tomorrow. I can't afford to call in.
----------

Rinsing with warm salt water is about the only thing you can do. If they are infected, which is hard to tell from your question, you'll obviously need an antibiotic. I wouldn't anger them at this point by brushing them. If they are already inflamed, brushing or poking will just make them worse. You really do need to have them out soon.  (+ info)

Does this sound like my wisdom tooth is impacted and/or infected?

For about a couple of weeks now I have been in an agonizing state of pain. The pain goes from a half-emerged, half-submerged wisdom tooth (in the upper right of my mouth) to my incisor. The pain also goes into my ear (where I have equally severe pain) and it's only recently feeling like it's going into my neck. I also feel a bit of pain in my cheek, but not much. My boyfriend's mother looked at the tooth and said that it is probably impacted and/or infected. What do you think?
----------

I agree. A second possibility is that a different tooth is infected. Best to go see a dentist and have yourself evaluated...it could easily get worse and that could be VERY bad. Best wishes with that.  (+ info)

How long does it take for an impacted tooth ligation chain to pull the teeth into place?

gonna have this done.how long will it take for the impacted teeth to come into place?
----------

Depending on the severity, anywhere from a 1 year to a few years just to pull the tooth down far enough to be uncovered. Then another year in braces to get the tooth in it's proper place.

I know it sounds like a long time, but the end result is well worth the wait. I have seen miracles! Good luck!  (+ info)

What does an impacted wisdom tooth look like?

What does it mean when its impacted and what does it look like? Does someone have a link to what it looks like?

Your face would probably be quite swollen. Get them removed before they are impacted. I had this procedure with only local anesthesia (wide awake, novacaine), but a lot of people prefer to go under with general anesthesia. My recommedation - do it while you are awake. I had all four removed at once on a Friday afternoon and was back to work on Monday (well, still a little swollen and on a soup diet).  (+ info)

How do you keep the area of an impacted tooth from hurting?

i have an impacted tooth and it is going to get fixed its on the roof of my mouth so if i eat like chips or something and it pokes that area, it hurts for a while. any ideas on how to keep it from hurting before i get it fixed.
the process will be braces, then pallet expander, they expose the impacted tooth, then i have the tooth connected to a chain that connects to the braces and pulls the tooth forward
the whole procedure will be about 3 years
thank you

Just favor the other side until you get a chance to address the problem.  (+ info)

as anyone ever had a implant placed where a impacted tooth with little bone support was removed?

i will need to remove an impacted tooth that was brought down by orthodontics. it is my front tooth (#9). will i need a bone graph, my dentist say i i have alot of bone loss since the root was surgically cut short after the root erupted.
----------

Two necessary things for implant: suffiecient bone support and good periodontal conditions. If you dont have the required bone support, then yes, you have to undergo bone grafting procedures for implants.  (+ info)
