How long until the pain from my tonsillitis comes back?

This is my 3rd day w/ tonsillitis. I see the doctor tomorrow.

I took two tylenol pm 500mg at 3 and ate dinner at 5:30. The pain is pretty un-noticable. Dinner was the 1st time Id eaten in a while, Id been sticking to liquids.

Anyways, out of curiosity, how long until the Tylenol wears off?
Im starting to feel the pain on the left side when I swallow.
----------

4-6 hours. And you do realize that in all probability, they're going to have to come out one of these days.  (+ info)

I have tried gargling with saltwater, but it only moves up a little, and does not completely come out. Any ideas how else i can get rid of it ?

It sounds like you need your tonsils removed to me.  (+ info)

Do you know any home remedies to cure tonsillitis?

I thought I had cut my throat with something I ate. About a week later, I got began to have really swollen tonsils so I decided to go to the doctor. He said I have Tonsillitis and gave me Clyndamycin. It doesn't seem to be working at all! Do you know any home remedies that will make it go away faster or at least ease the pain. I can barely swallow.
----------

It may be that he gave you the wrong antibiotic. Go back and tell him that it's not working. If it's strep, you may need some Keflex or Pennicillin.

Also, it could be aggravated by sinusitus. Get a netipot or sinus rinse bottle from the drugstore along with proper salt packets to mix with sterile water and maybe try rinsing your sinuses out.

Try gargling with a DILUTE solution of vinegar and honey with water.

Also, see an ENT doctor if it doesn't clear as you may need your tonsils removed. Sometimes they get chronically infected or can affect your breathing at night.  (+ info)

Does working out affect your recovery time if you have tonsillitis?

I think I have tonsillitis (it hurts to swallow, drink and eat), does anyone know any remedies to quicken the recovery process and does working out in the gym affect my recovery time?
----------

dont. i have had strep throat (tonsilitis) about 17 or m18 times. i have chronic tonsilitis, caused by holes (looks like craters) in my tonsils. everytime i swollow a bite of food a little bit gets caught in my tonsils.

they compact into things called tonsil stones, and are smelly...gross. although its not serious, its common among people and they may never know it.

the best treatment it to take your ammoxacilin they gave you and rest for about 2 days....eat pudding, jello, broth, and stay away from acidic stuff like orange juice...it could burn your tonsils.  (+ info)

Is it still common practice to take out the tonsils of a child who gets recurring tonsillitis?

It might be premature to be thinking about it but my 16 month old has had tonsillitis twice in the past month so it just occured to me that it may be down the track for us.
----------

It depends on the severity and frequency. My sisters both got tonsillitis on average twice a year, but by the age of 7 or 8, they stopped getting it. According to the Mayo Clinic, they do not remove tonsils in children unless a child gets strep throat more than 4 times a year or if they are so large they are obstructing breathing (as in the case of one of my brothers).

Your baby has only had it once. The meds just didn't completely eliminate the original infection.  (+ info)

What are the long term prognoses for nephritis in conjunction with tonsillitis?

I had tonsillitis as a teenager and also developed nephritis with very dark brown urine. My doctor (now retired) was not specific with the type of nephritis dx, or with the long term effects. All he told me was that the type of nephritis I had is usually diagnosed in children 5-6 yrs of age and usually results in death to the child.
----------

Post streptococcal acute glomerulonephritis generally has a good long term outlook. Total recovery from the initial episode is the rule. There is slightly higher risk for you of developing kidney problems as you get older (20-40 yrs) but the odds are in your favor. Your doctor should keep an eye out and any problems that may affect your kidneys should be aggressively treated(diabetes, hypertension.  (+ info)

What are your own remedies for tonsillitis?

Also, is it normal to feel sick when you have tonsillitis?
----------

Go to doctor and get checked for strep, then go on antibiotics if deemed necessary.
If you mean pain relief, warm herbal tea with honey, glycerin lollipops help a lot. And yes, you can feel sick when you have an infection, that means your body is infected and fighting it!  (+ info)

Is tonsillitis a symptom or an illness in itself?

Maybe a silly question...

My toddler has a rash all over his body, has a high temperature (over 40C at times) and a red ear. We took him to the doctors this morning and were referred to hospital to see a pediatrician who after looking at his throat said he has tonsillitis and that the rash looks viral. We've been given some throat spray and told to keep giving him Calpol to keep his temperature down.

So is tonsillitis the cause of the problem (rash, fever, loss of appetite etc)? Or just another symptom of having a virus?
----------

Tonsillitis, literally means inflammation of the tonsils. It is the "problem" or diagnosis. The cause is likely to be viral, though it may be bacterial. There is no real way of knowing unless swabs are taken. In most cases it tends to be viral and the body's immune system will take care of it.

Even when bacteria cause infections, the immune system can usually take care it, occasionally antibiotics are needed.

When the tonsils are inflamed, the inflammation can spread up a tube called the Eustachian tube (a tube on each side of the back of your throat that connects to each ear respectively) , this tube leads to the ear and can cause the ear drum to become inflamed.

In your toddlers case, as the virus spreads, it causes various chemicals to be released by the immune system. These cause the temperature, tiredness, loss of appetite (food, sometimes drink as well) and may even contribute towards the rash.

I hope this helps

Are these symptoms of Tonsillitis normal or something to worry about?

Been diagnosed by the doctor 10 days ago with tonsilltis, antibiotics failed to work.
Yesterday a fair amount of blood came from the back of my throat and then it stopped to just streaky blood in my mucus. Green phlegm constantly killing my throat trying to get it up.

Just want to check that the blood is normal and a tonsillitis symptom ofc i was worried when i started bleeding out my throat area.
----------

i had severe tonsillitis a few weeks ago, but after 10 days with antibiotics mine was gone. i think you should go back to the doctor because there are three different things it could be. they usually take a sample and check what it is.  (+ info)
