You are lucky to have caught the tick. Go get a prescription for antibiotics. Lyme Disease is no joke!  (+ info)

What happens to a tick after it bites you?

After it bites you and obtains your blood, does the tick die or does it live?
----------

The tick swells with your blood. After it gets its fill it falls off and then lays its eggs and nourishes its eggs with your blood. Nasty little things.  (+ info)

How to tell the difference between a tick bite and a mosquito bite?

If the tick has fallen off, will it look like a mosquito bite or is there a difference?

the reason i ask is because I found a dead deer tick in my bed and wonder if it came off of me?
----------

Tick bites usually don't itch; mosquito bites itch like anything. Also, mosquito bites are more "puffy" looking than tick bites.  (+ info)

What do ticks look like and how do you know if you have a tick?

My friend thinks she has a tick and her mom put on her life that she didn't because she burnt herself. Whats on her back is a red with a hint of brown bump . Thanks!
----------

Ticks look very different from a burn, Sweetie. A tick is a burrowing insect that attaches itself to the flesh and it becomes fat and distended from gorging on human blood. Sounds grotesque and it is, but nothing earth-shattering. However, ticks do carry Lyme disease, which is a potentially devastating illness if left untreated. It causes chronic fatigue, fever, and a flu-like illness. Lyme disease is easily treated with antibiotics in it's early stages.
To spot a tick, look carefully at the bump. If you push it to one side with your finger or the tip of a sterilized needle, you will be able to see if it is a blister from a burn because there will be no "head" of the tick, just a sac filled with water. If it is a tick, it will be attached to the skin with tiny legs. If it is truly a tick, don't try to remove it by just pulling it off because the legs can remain embedded in the flesh. Get a pair of tweezers and find the head of the insect just beneath the skin. Pull on in firmly, straight up and out. It is normal for the skin to pull out with the tick. Make sure that none of the parts of the tick remain (you will see a little hole where it was and any legs will be visible.) Put alcohol on a cotton ball and clean the area well. It will remain sore for a day or two. You might want to note the date of the removal of the tick in case you develop the symptoms of Lyme disease above.
Good luck to your friend, dear! Thanks for the opportunity to answer your question.  (+ info)

How can I reduce redness and swelling of a tick-bite?

I had a tick on my stomache, and now the spot where it bit me is large red bump-like thing, and slightly purple as well. Its comprable to a scab, and it kinda hurts. Its been about a week since I removed the tick, and it never actually sucked my blood (researched it) but the swelling and redness haven't gone down a bit! Is there any home-remedies or something I can do to help?
----------

Icing it will help with the swelling. Keep a cloth between the ice and your skin to prevent frostbite. Keep the ice on for 20 minutes and then take it off until your skin is back to normal temperature (about 20-30 minutes) and then repeat.
I have to say though, ticks carry a lot of diseases and your bite does not sound normal. Usually all that's there once the tick is removed is a little red dot. I would advise seeing your doctor, or at least calling them and seeing if they want you to come in.  (+ info)

How do you remove a wood tick after it has already bursted?

I found a big patch of blood on my dog and found out it was from a tick. Is there any way to remove it? Please help! I really love my dog and i dont want him to get a disease
----------

Call your vet and ask what you should do. Your dog should be vaccinated for Lyme disease. The dog we just adopted is recovering from Lyme disease, and it is a LOT cheaper to vaccinate before they are infected than it is to treat after they are infected. CALL YOUR VET!  (+ info)

What can you get from a tick besides Lyme Disease?

My mom was just admitted to the hospital for an illness related to a tick bite. She had flu symptoms and severe nausea. What could it be? They are treating her with intravenous antibiotics for 10-14 days.
----------

Flu symptoms and severe nausea sounds like Lyme disease. (Since you're asking for more diseases, sounds like she probably tested negative for Lyme. Be advised that Lyme lab tests are notoriously unreliable. They often say you don't have it when in fact you do.)

However, ticks can give you all kinds of nasty things in addition to Lyme, sometimes several of them at the same time: babesia, bartonella, mycoplasma, erlichia, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, tick fever and tick paralysis are just a few to get you started.

I recommend you check out the following websites for information about Lyme and other tick-borne infections.

What are you supposed to do when you have lyme disease and you've found the tick?

My mother got diagnosed with Lyme Disease and given antibiotics for treatment but the doctor was unable to find the tick. We have found what we believe to be the tick, and it seems to be buried into her shoulder. What should we do? Try to dig it out? Put something on it? Or something else?
----------

I don't think ticks usually bury themselves under the skin like that, but I think you should probably go to the hospital to have it checked out ASAP.  (+ info)

Is there something that could make a mental tick more “on” than usual?

I have a friend who has something that I could only describe as a minor mental tick. (of course I’ve never asked about it) Yesterday he seemed more erratic than usual. Is there something in the environment that could be setting it off? Stress, boredom…etc?
----------

Yes, stress - or medication possibly  (+ info)
