How long after a tick bite would you start to see symptoms?

I found a tick in my arm about a week ago and I'm now starting to feel, well, yucky. Chills and a stomach ache and some other flu-like symptoms. Am I being paranoid or should I call the doc? We did get the tick out by the way, and all of it did come out.
----------

If you are concerned about lyme disease, then those symptoms usually occur 2 weeks after an infected deer tick bite. The first symptoms that you typically see are rash and fever, although, you could also feel achey as well. The best idea is to see you Dr. A lyme screen is a fairly simple and quick laboratory test.  (+ info)

How do you remove a tick that has buried itself inside your skin?

The tick's almost completely buried inside my dad's skin and we need to know how to get it out. Only the butt end of it is sticking out a little.
----------

You can use a pair of fine-point tweezers. Grasp the tick as close as possible to the point of attachment and slowly and gently pull until your skin starts to lift. Keep up the gentle pressure (without lifting farther) until the tick comes loose. Don't twist or jerk. If you do, you might squish the tick or break off its head or mouth parts.
NOTHING else works! If you leave part of the tick in your skin, you should have it removed by a physician. If it is too deep, go to the doctor period! Don't try yourselves. Otherwise, you may get an infection in the bite area.

You can not remove a tick by covering it with grease or gasoline, or by holding a match or cigarette against the tick. This does not work! This only increases the chance of you getting an infection.  (+ info)

Is it possible to give a tick alcohol poisoning before you have alcohol poisoning yourself?

I had a tick on my leg just this morning, and because the tick uses my blood to feed itself, I was wondering if ticks could get alcohol poisoning. I guess it's important to know if the person consuming the alcohol is at risk too.

By the way, I won't try this out, and neither should you. This is just curiosity.
----------

no... you become poisoned by alcohol before it enters your bloodstream.  (+ info)

How do you know when to seek medical treatment for a tick bite?

I week ago Thursday, I took a tick off my leg just above the ankle. It was just barely attatched. Now, I have a round red blister with white shiny top, with redness extend out from it a little. I realize that not all tick bites are infectious but how do you know when to get medical treatment. It is also tender to touch.
----------

when it kinda starts to look like a "bulls eye", you need to get tested for lyme disease also, a bloodtest. you just need to make sure it doesnt get infected, you can get cellulitis and may need an antibiotic.  (+ info)

How to tell if cat tick bite is infected?

My kitten got a tick bite and I pulled the tick out, however now there is a red spot with blood on her back and no hair around, is it infected? Is it lymes? Please help!
----------

Hi, that is the normal reaction to the tick bite. Just look for red streaking, rash, pus, pain, etc.
Was the tick a deer or dog tick, by the way? Go here for a picture:

How do you remove a tick without leaving the head?

We have found around four ticks in our house and on our dogs this year. Two of them have actually be stuck in the dogs. I was told that you could put Vaseline on the tick and it would smother them causing them to come out, but both times we have done this it has taken well over two hours for the tick to come out and it still had to be removed with tweezers.
I was wondering if anyone knew any tried and trusted tick removal remedies.
Thanks

Ticks have a backward hook on the head.. You can flip the tick over on its back (not sideways, but in relation to the head) then pull it out by pulling in the direction of the head. Don't just throw it in the trash or outside. I usually flush them down the toilet.  (+ info)

What should you do if you get bitten by a deer tick?

I got bitten by a tick and I'm wondering if it was a deer tick and what I can do to prevent Lyme disease. I've already gotten the tick out. What else can I do?
----------

A doctor should test you for lyme disease. If a red rash appears where you were bit, you will need to be started on an antibiotic. Do this ASAP. I got lyme disease last spring and it was no fun. All my joints were in terrible pain and I had a throbbing head ache. I had no idea what was wrong with me. I finally went to the doctor and had to take an antibiotic for a month. I couldn't go out in the sun or I'd burn. I had to put on spf 50 sun block just to get the mail. Last summer sucked.  (+ info)

How do you remove a tick that has embedded its head in your skin?

What works best on a small child? Would like to remove the head of the tick in one fell swoop.
----------

Removed a million ticks this way. Heat the end of a needle with a match then touch the needle to the tick. The tick will then back out of the skin on its own and there will be no chance of leaving the head inside of the skin. IF YOU TRY TO REMOVE A TICK BY PULLING OR SCRAPING IT OUT YOU WILL BREAK THE BODY FROM THE HEAD, LEAVING THE HEAD INSIDE THE SKIN AND CAUSING SEVERE PROBLEMS  (+ info)
