how long will my recovery be?????

i just had exploratory surgery of my right forearm yesterday. they found a lot of inflamation around my tendons and wrapping around my nerve. they also made a second incision into my palm because they had to remove more inflamation in my carpal tunnel region. how long until i am completely recovered and can use my arm and wrist and hand again without restriction? the doctor said it was tenosynovitis. Also is it weird that it didnt show up on an MRI and that i didnt have any pain before the surgery? thank you in advance.

SF Bay doctor for wrist strain injury?

Can anyone recommend a doctor in the area (South Bay/Peninsula) who specializes in the sort of wrist injury that occurs from too much typing/mousing (the technical term is "tenosynovitis")? I'm looking for someone who is knowledge in the field, who is accessible (has an office that answers the phone and will return calls within a few days), and who might be able to suggest various options for treatment.

A bonus if the doctor also knows the ins and outs of worker's comp.

I would really appreciate any recommendations.
The original doctor's diagnosis was "tenosynovitis," not carpal tunnel. Seeking a new doctor for a second opinion. Thanks!

what should i do??????

i just got surgery on my forearm thursday. im 22 male and had exploratory surgery on right forearm. they found a lot of inflamation over my tendons and wrapping around my nerve. they also saw it in or by my carpal tunnel so they made an incision on my forearm and one in my palm. my questions are how long about will it take for a complete recovery? should i try and move my fingers a lot even though it hurts during the recovery process. and also is it weird that all the inflamation didnt show up on an MRI? and that i never had any pain associated with it before this surgery? the surgeon now diagnosed it as tenosynovitis. thank you in advanced.
im typing with both hand but only with my pointer with the hand i had srgery on. it only hurts when i move my fingers alot.

it may not have been all soft mass =that is why it all won't show up in the MRI=like most surgeries it takes 6 to 8 weeks to be completely healed  (+ info)

Need advice on shoulder/neck injury, pls!?

Hello, on 12/7/06 I had fell very hard onto a concrete floor. I hit my head back, shoiulder and arm. I have been in physical therapy for about two months to treat this injury.
I first recieved and MRI for my neck and it showed that I posterior disc protusion slightly effacing the ventral csf at c5-6 and c4-5. I also have a disc bulge at c6-7.

At first the pain was quite severe but physical therapy, rest and medication had helped some bit. The problem is that I still get neck aches daily. The pain can get to be pretty bad at times
.
I recently recieved and MRI for my shoulder which showed impingement. The results say: There is a down-sloping acromion which does touch a midly efface the supraspinatus musculotendinous junction. There is tenosynovitis of the biceps tendon sheath
.
I kind of know what this means but not fully. I have alot of pain in shoulder and neck, shoulder is very sore and my underarm is sore and tender. it hurts most when walking/reaching. Also, my elbow started cracking with much pain and my forearm is really tight, my fingers constantly feel jammed and there is pain/weakness in wrist. Also, my shoulder has been cracking.

My question is, I see a my neuro surgeon for a follow up soon but I called the office and they said he does not deal with shoulders. Then, the week after I see my doctor. What kind of treatment should I expect for these injuries and might I need to see another specialist? Also, may I need more physical therapy my prescription is currently up for it and i have completed the suggested course of therapy yet am still in much pain.

Any info/suggestion you may have will be appreciated.

Thank You

You did not mention what you are doing in physical therapy, but it sounds like the treatment has focused on the neck. I am guessing that more needs to be addressed for the shoulder.

In impingement syndrome, something gets "pinched" which causes pain and inflammtion. It can occur due to poor muscular function or muscles that stabilize the scapula, tightness of the capsule surrounding the joint, poor posture, a bone spur on the underside of the acromian, or anatomic abnormality of the acromian. It sounds like you at least have the latter. Whether you have other factors contributing to the problem, your physical therapist should be able to tell you. Muscular function and capsular tightness can be addressed by strengthening and stretching. Posture correction is imperitive in ALL cases of shoulder impingment. The other things I have mentioned cannot be cured by physical therapy, but may be able to be addressed by using modalities to decrease inflammation...education is also important to avoid movements that impinge the shoulder.

The neurosurgeon could give you further treatment suggestions for the neck, but an orthopedic surgeon would need to be seen for the shoulder. Although, based on what you have said about your MRI, the first inclination would probably be to continue PT...maybe a cortisone injection.  (+ info)

MRI results on ankle?

My MRI showed mild tenosynovitis and tendinosis of the right tibialis anterior tendon with a small focal split tear at the level of the talar dome with edema and moderate tendonosis of the achilles tendon with a punctate intrasubstance tear 2.5 cm proximal to the calcaneal attachment and grade 1 lateral sprain with a small focal tear of the anterior talofibular ligament. Can anyone put this in english for me, lol?
----------

It's a serious sprain/strain with inflamation.
Don't push it. Let it heal and then get some passive ROM treatments.  (+ info)

carpal tunnel?

Did anyone else develop carpal tunnel during pregnancy? I had my daughter 4 months ago and my wrist still throbs horribly. I was reading about it and I read that it could have turned into DeQuervain tenosynovitis... has anyone else had this and did it ever go away?
----------

I developed carpal tunnel during my pregnancy and it has yet to go away. You should try capsazin cream on your wrists its like icy hot but 10 times better.  (+ info)

Hand pain, wrist pain and general swelling!?

Hi - i have a condition no doctors have been able to solve, which i have had since birth. I have tried to research it, however the closest i can get to describing it is like having ganglions which migrate - which i know isn't possible, but it's very similar. I have extremely swollen hands which i had an operation when i was younger to see if that would rectify, however the surgeon said that all i had was normal synovial fluid where it should be - nothing further. So it was like my tendons were getting inflamed for no reason other than they were just inflamed.

Many other doctors have said that extra movement would make the condition worse as in Tenosynovitis, however this is totally incorrect as movement actually improves it if i can push through the pain. The pain is pretty constant, but i don't notice it as i've always had it. It feels a bit like a continuous sprain, which sometimes is much better and sometimes i can't move my hands until i pummel them into it!

The thing that's baffled me today and why i'm asking if anyone has encountered something similar is that my usual ganglion puffyness which is restricted to wrists and fingers has suddenly manifest in the LH centre of my right palm which is rather painful. This is something i've never had before. I'm currently in the throes of a bad cold - and i have noted stress and illness links to flare ups. Rheumatoid and Osteo Arthritis have been ruled out... As have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Duputreyns and Tenosynovitis.

Any ideas what i might have?
----------

If stress and illness are linked to flare ups then my guess is that it is a nervous system disorder, caused by anxiety and stress. Make an appointment to see someone who specialises in Neurology, (A neurologist) for a second opinion.
Try massaging some cold pressed oil, such as Linseed,Sunflower,or Almond oil, into your arms, wrists, and hands, for pain relief. I am sure it will work as I have used it with success. I use it in the form of LSA oil and it is sold by a New Zealand brand called Healtheries. Just remember whatever you put on your skin, gets absorbed into it, and this contains all natural cold pressed ingredients that contain Omega 3,6,and 9. Its all good!
Try alternative medicine, such as naturopathy, osteopathy, aromatherapy, and chiropractic.  (+ info)

please help me.?

I have had pain my wrist for four three years now. every once in a while i will have shooting pain from just below my thum to my wrist. it puts my in tears. i looked online and read about de quervain's tenosynovitis. i did the Finkelstein test and that hurt like no other. im not sure what to do. i have had 2 cortizone shots already. what should i do for it.
is a cast necessary?
----------

Since you've already had Cortisone injections, you should try splinting and physical therapy as your next option. After that, your only other option would be surgical release. Talk to your doctor ....  (+ info)
