Why is my wrist bruised and painful after cortisone injection?

I recently (4 days ago) had a cortisone shot in my right wrist on the left side for my inflammed tendon. (De Quervain's Tenosynovitis) And I thought the pain would go away quickly but it is still painful to the touch and very bruised. My skin around the injection area is a dark purplish color. Is this normal?
----------

I had cortisone injection before and I understand what you mean. It should get better in a few days, but if it is still purple then I would call your doctor to ask him about that. I know that it lighten the skin pigment for months before it gets back to its regular color.  (+ info)

I have been diagnosed with DeQuervain's Tenosynovitis & referred to Rhumatologist. The Celebrex & Aleve don't.?

help the severe pain at all. Do you think this DR I am seeing tomorrow will prescribe me real pain medication? Thanks. I am in so much pain I can't sleep at night. Wearing splint, taking Celebrex and Aleve, icing/heat over soreness and elevation. NOTHING is helping the sever pain.
----------

It is bad pain, but it does get better with what you're doing now. Keep on with splint, icing and elevation. If you know cause of the problem (mine was using computer mouse), stop doing what causes pain for a few weeks at least. Good luck.  (+ info)

Can you still fracture your wrist and not have swelling but still have pain?

I just went to the doctors today and she told me I have DeQuervains Tenosynovitis and if it doesn't go away in two weeks she would do an xray. I don't have any swelling but it is REALLY painful to push down on my wrist - like to do a push up. Could it be fractured?
I did fall on it six years ago. But it didn't bother me - but I remember I couldn't do push ups since then. And now it Really bothers me.
----------

It can, though usually there is a swelling. A sprain, by the way, hurts more than a fracture, so maybe that is what you have. Did you fall or something? Dequervain's Tenosynovitis is an inflamation at the base of the thumb/wrist that is very painful, more so than a fracture. Did you get something for the inflammation?

I hope you feel better soon!  (+ info)

Help with De Quervain's tenosynovitis?

I've been diagnosed with de quervains tenosynovitis of my right wrist about 2 months ago. I have been on anti inflammatory medication, been to an orthopedic surgeon and to an occupational therapist, I have a thumb immobilizer splint, I have done ice/heat and exercises..............it is still bothering me and I am growing impatient. Has anyone had this condition and how long does it last?????? Any treatments I havent tried? I've been told by my surgeon about high risk of side effects from an injection into the joint and do not want surgery.
----------

Injections are risky because the doctor might accidentally hit the radial nerve which is superficial at the same site of inflammation.
I'm sorry but there's no medical procedure that's been proved to accelerate healing other than splinting and PT exercises.
Good luck- Muslima  (+ info)

Can anyone please please help me (tenosynovitis) please?

I was diagnosed with tenosynovitis in my left foot April 2009. My doctor did not give me alot of advice on how to heal this. All he said was to stay off of it. I work for Walmart and for 4 months after my diagnoses walmart made me stand and I had no choice because I would have quit but cannot afford it. So anyways I contacted the ADA and walmart and them decided it would be okay for me to have a stool to sit on until I was fully recovered. Well I've had the stool for about two months now, I've stayed off of my foot and I am still not healed. Walmart is trying to say that they are going to take my stool away. WHAT DO I DO? And have you had this before? How do I heal it? Please help me I've had this problem since August 2008. :(
Oh and I got this from standing in the same spot. So basically because I was standing running the register.
About the doctor note telling walmart I need to stay on the stool. They can tell me that I'm not fit to do the job and then fire me. Thats what they have told me before, which is why I went as high as the ADA.

Tenosynovitis is inflammation of the tendon and lining of the joints. The term is often used when no fracture or specific arthritis is suspected or found, but pain or swelling persist. It occurs from over use (strain) of a joint or the joint-tendon system.

Causes of strain...
1) movement that exceeded the limbs tolerance level (eg jumping off a high stool)
2) prolonged use that exceeded the limbs tolerance level (eg being on your feet for 10-12 hours non stop)
3) excess body weight (if the issue is strain of hip, leg or foot)

Rest, heat alternating with ice (heat to heal and ice to relieve pain), anti-inflammatory meds and, if over weight, weight reduction are the treatment strategies. Depending on location physical therapy with ultrasound or certain exercises may help.

If the joint in question is in the foot, a shoe mold may give support. If the above is done without help, a cortisone shot into the joint or near the tendon may be of help. Healing may take 4-6 weeks under optimal conditions.  (+ info)

De Quervain Tenosynovitis?

Doctors tried medicine and injection (cortisone) for the De Quervain in my thumb tendon now they want to perform surgery but I want that to be treated without surgery . I feel better when heat pad (wet) is applied and do massage with olive oil. What would be the best remedy to get rid of this without surgery?

Tip of middle finger is numb and tingly?

The tip of my left middle finger is numb, and tingly to the touch. It lasts for about 30 minutes, and then goes away. It starts out barely noticeable but then gets very numb and tingly. I don't use my left hand as often as my right when on the computer, though I am left-handed. I also have Tenosynovitis in my left wrist, so that may be causing it. But does anyone have any ideas of what could be making this happen?

carpel tunnel syndrome, or disc issue in your neck. I have some disc degeneration in my neck and have the same thing. Improve posture as first step. May help matters.  (+ info)

Can De Quervain's tenosynovitis?

I am 24 years old and I had surgery for De quervains about a year and a half ago. every thing went well and i have since had normal use of my hand. But for the past week the strength in my wrist has deteriorated and i have found it hard to open bottle tops etc. Then yesterday my wrist became extremely painful and now i can't lift anything or use my wrist at all. It is very similar to before my surgery. I haven't had a fall but am not sure if De Quervains can come back after surgery?
----------

it can if the operation wasn't completely successful  (+ info)

"I have both carpal tunnel syndrome and tenosynovitis. Lately, my hands are shaking. may this be related???

This is particularly bothersome after working with a computer keyboard or mouse, but it can also happen all on its own.
----------

carpal tunnel syndrome and tenosynovitis do have connection to each other and the fibrous thickening of the tendinous sheath can get worsen following repetitive forceful use of hand. but, as far as i know, both of these diseases wont cause shaky hand. maybe it's due to other problem. try ask ur gp. =)  (+ info)

synovitis or tenosynovitis?

Hello. Can someone shed light on exactly what is synovitis? An ankle & foot doctor is trying to determine the cause of my ankle and foot swelling to twice its size since December. It does not hurt, I have not injured it in any way and I do not have a clot in my leg. I've had a doppler scan, xray and MRI that shows nothing other than some slight arthritis in my ankle and mild swelling of the joint. It swells during the day, returns to normal during night and then swells again during the day. It is only my left foot and ankle. For the last few days the doctor has had me wearing a compression stocking which has made my foot I'd say 95% better. At the end of the day it now has "slight swelling". We are hoping if I wear this stocking for a few weeks that it might heal whatever the problem is. The mystery is very annoying. Any medical thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks. :o)
----------

They're talking about inflammation of the synovial membrane: which is what lines (some of) our joints and keeps them 'supple'. and lubed by way of synovial fluid.

Hope that helps  (+ info)
