anyone have vasovagal syncope?

Anyone have Vasovagal syncope? Any advise? Helpful hits? How to deal with it? Do have any limitations? Thank You!
haha Tony its not a genital problem its a fainting problem...
----------

Vasovagal syncope is often something that is transient- meaning you may have it once but never again. There is a very small percentage of people who it happens to repeatedly. I had it when I was younger. I would get up after relaxing and stretch and then faint. I was really thin and somewhat tall when it was happening. If you find that there are repeated times when it happens such as getting up rapidly- try to get up slower. When you get up rapidly your body has to compensate by changing your blood pressure so that all the blood doesn't drop down into your legs and decrease the oxygen to your brain. When this happens it happens in a split second then you body rapidly compensates and you wake up. I found that keeping myself hydrated helped. If it seems to be happening really often I would go see your doctor just to make sure that something else isn't going on.  (+ info)

yes what is the vasovagal syncope? how will wearing a heart monitor help? what about a pacemaker?

Vasovagal syncope is a condition of fainting instigated by stimulation of the vagal nerve and subsequently the parasympathetic nervous system. Heart rate slows and/or blood vessels may dilate, rapidly reducing blood pressure and creating a physiologic response for the body to lay down and thus restore adequate blood flow to the brain. A heart monitor will not help this condition, but may help diagnose it based off of periods of bradycardia (slow heart rate.) A pacemaker is used to regulate the heart rhythm artificially, since the vagus nerve has influence on both the SA node (sinoatrial node, or "natural pacemaker of the heart") and the AV node (Atrioventricular node.) Hope this helps. Good luck and all the best.  (+ info)

vasovagal syncope(fainting)?

I woke up to an episode of vasovagal syncope. Is this normal? Can sleeping be a trigger?
i am positive i have it...and i woke up to the symptoms warning signs...like i was sleeping and a feeling of nausea (a warning sign) woke me up, and i soon as i got up i fainted
----------

Vasovagal syncope is the result of an exaggerated response by the nervous system to stimuli, (a confrontation, the sight of blood etc.).

When this is is triggered, your heart rate and blood pressure drop leading to loss of consciousness.

If you experienced it after waking, its likely it was caused by distress as a result nightmares etc.

There is nothing to worry about, but if it reoccurs, see your doctor for a check-up as it could mean that there's an underlying medical problem.  (+ info)

an aspiring doctor and vasovagal syncope?

I'm applying to med school for next year but today something happened that worries me. I'm in my senior year and this morning my aunt (who's an anesthesiologist) called me and said she was on her way to an emergency surgery and asked me if I wanted to go see.

The doctor was starting what he said would be "temporary transvenous cardiac pacing" in order to try and implant a artifical pacemaker in a patient suffering from cardiac problems. I watched everything with so much interest, but all of a sudden I felt an unusual amount of sweat on my face. Then my knees started to feel weird, and I felt my head tingling. My aunt caught a quick glimpse oft me and she let me have her chair and quickly gave me some alcohol gauzes and told me to smell them for a while. After 10 minutes I felt completely fine and I was able to stand again and she said that what happened to me happens to a lot of people; but now I'm scared that maybe I can't be a doctor...

Was this normal? What should I do?
----------

Your aunt was right. This is very common. Not something I would be to worried about. I've had several student who thought they couldn't handle sights or smells or whatever, and they were all fine when done with class. The clinical times you do stuff will harden you to the reality. If your smart enough to be a doctor, don't waste that knowledge. You could be the one to cure the common cold!  (+ info)

Passed out 3 times in 2 days? Vasovagal syncope?

First off I’m sorry for this being so long. Earlier this year in January I passed out they diagnosed it as vasovagal syncope. I passed out again in April this year too. I went to see a cardiologist they did a whole bunch of tests (halter monitor, EKG, and blood tests) and everything came back normal so they just said I have vasovagal syncope. But on Tuesday I passed out at around 1:15. I was lining up from lunch to go up to homeroom and I passed out for a little longer for a minute. A few seconds before that my stomach started to hurt really badly then I saw black spots and I was hot and clammy. When I woke up I was a little disoriented and wasn’t exactly sure what happened. The nurse took my blood pressure and it was a little high so was my pulse. Then again that day at around 8:00 at my 8th grade graduation dance I passed out. I was out for about 3 – 4 minutes I was told. It was REALLY hot in the gym. I felt the same way with my stomach and everything. That time the school called an ambulance because they said I fell straight back and hit my head really hard and also because I fell on my wrist and hurt really badly (it ended up being sprained). My blood pressure was a little high and my pulse was also. They took my blood sugar and it was high, it was 207. But they said it could because I drank some punch when I was there. The hospital said it was vasovagal syncope. Then on Wednesday only a day later around 2:00 well I was practicing for graduation I passed out again. I felt the same way with the stomach and everything. It was also pretty hot in the gym. They called the ambulance again (I mean who wouldn’t that was my 3rd time in three days). I didn’t go to the ER this time though. My blood sugar this time was 107. My pulse and blood pressure was a little high again. Each time I was standing and it was pretty hot where I was. I have an appointment again with the cardiologist again on Wednesday but I am really worried about passing out again before then. I’m 14 if that makes a difference.

Here are my questions:
1) Do you think this is vasovagal syncope?
2) Is this normal with vasovagal syncope?
3) Why did I pass out so many times so close together?
----------

If you are running on a healthy diet, then it might be vasovagal syncope.
Im 22 and still have the same problem, the triggers when..
I see a lots of blood
I gets an injection when im tired or sick
Blood test
Bleeds myself
Have to stand in a crowded hot room for long (happened only twice in my life)

Ive been trying to stop it since i was 10 but things didnt improve. I now learned to live with it, i just lie flat whenever i get the symptoms, like cold arms, blurred vision etc and that atleast helps me from fainting on the floor and hurting myself. The thing that scares the shit out of me is that a school mate of mine who had the same condition fainted and died in no time due to this in the exam hall, ever since i does my best trying not to faint by lying flat with my legs elevated.  (+ info)

Can a pinched vagus nerve cause vasovagal syncope?

My boyfriend suffers from vasovagal syncope. We know there is nothing wrong with his heart, and that he is perfectly healthy at age 32. He has reverse curvature of the spine and in his neck, it curves so far inward that his adam's apple is being pushed out. I am wondering if this issue with his neck could be causing his vasovagal syncope by pinching his vagus nerve. So far, most everything else has been ruled out. The doctor has told him that his vagus nerve is over-sensitive, and told him basic things about vasovagal syncope, and put him on 2 medications to keep him from passing out.
----------

A pinched nerve typically happens as the nerve exits the spinal column and is pinched either by an intervertebral disc that has herniated or by a boney obstruction caused by degeneration of the spine.

The vagus nerve, however, is a cranial nerve and does not eminate from the spinal cord (it eminates off the brainstem), therefore, there is no reason for it to be pinched by the spine. Furthermore, the neck is supposed to curve inward...typically when people loose the curve is when they have problems with a pinched nerve.

Certainly, if there was something else compressing the vagus nerve (some type of growth or obstruction in the jugglar foramen this could happen)...but in all likelihood he'd be having other serious medical issues.

I had cardiodepressive syncope myself...and gradually just "grew" out of it by 26. It was a nussiance more than anything else.  (+ info)

Vasovagal syncope i have it and i just found out! im i just wonder if anyone is suffuring from this.?

i pass out looks like im having a seazior but im not and i just pass out its so annoying i cant stop it and it mostly happens when im in a big grop of ppl in small areas!
please sorry for the spelling mistakes
----------

I get that too . But I get it when I cough hard. It has happened while I was driving. Thank God I didn't kill anyone. It's a weird feeling as you are "coming to" isn't it? Like all your systems are coming back on line.  (+ info)

How can you be diagnosed with vasovagal syncope if you don't pass all the way out?

A family member had the flu and was coughing a lot. She stood up to go in the kitchen and felt faint. I heard her fall into a chair. When I went to check on her, here eyes were staring forward, not focusing on anything, and she was still moaning as if in pain, but somewhat rhythmically. Her body was limp and non-responsive, as was she. It took her about 30 seconds to come to. They ran tests to check for stroke and heart attack that were negative. The diagnosis was vasovagal syncope.

I was under the impression that VS involved a complete passing out. Has anyone ever heard of a situation like this? I just wonder if she was check for everything.
----------

You do not have to be completely unconscious and unresponsive to have a vasovagal episode. She was unresponsive to anyone for about 30 seconds which means this is exactly what she had. She was probably behind in her daily fluid intake and when she stood up, her blood pressure dropped and she fainted.  (+ info)

heart attack or vasovagal syncope?

i am 22 yr old female I have a heart disease with an implanted defibulator/pacemaker. Last night i was at the hospital because my daughter bumped her head, while we were in the waiting room i went to get a drink and i felt fine and was laughing with my daughter. After i took a drink I immediately felt chest pain, i thought i just swallowed too much at one time, the pain was bad enough that i clutched my chest, then i felt faint so i sat down to relax but it only got worse i was extremely pale (hubby said i looked dead) he got the nurses within 1 minute after the chest pain started the nurses had to lift me to the wheelchair because i was so weak and limp, i was conscious the whole time but i felt like i was drifting off. They rushed me to the trauma room cut my shirt off and gave me an iv, my pulse was below 40 and really weak with low blood pressure, body was numb and tingly especially left hand. Docors discharged me within 2 hours diagnosing me with vasovagal syncope but they
didnt wait for my enzymes test to come back from the lab before discharging me. The hospital was extremely busy so i figured they just needed te room. If i had vasovagal syncope (fainting) then shouldn't i have passed out right away or at leas i should have gotten better when i sat back in the chair in the waiting room.
----------

Wow, that sounds traumatic!
It sounds like a heart attack, but I'm sure the doctors had you monitored by an EKG and therefore were able to look at your heart rhythms. If they said it was vasovagal syncope, then it must be although it seems odd that your pulse got down to 40!  (+ info)

Do I have Vasovagal Syncope? Autonomic Dysfunction? Help!!!!?

When I was ten years old, I started having problems passing out. I also have terrible tension in my neck and back.... I also have sleep paralysis and insomnia. I've been passing out, suffering from palpitaions, tremors, etc. Sometimes my lungs catch on my ribs and I can't breathe for several seconds. I take salt tablets and drink at least 64 oz. of water, but I still pass out. What's worse, I started having strange pains in the area of my left kidney, but doctors find nothing wrong. I feel so sick... and I find it so hard to eat without throwing up. Occasionaly I'll have such terrible problems with my stomach that I become so tense that I can't move and throw up just by brushing my teeth! The doctors started out saying I had vasovagal syncope..... but then it got worse. Then they said I had problems with my connective tissue (I know this is true because I can stretch my joints, like pull on them and they stretch). I'm so scared because it just keeps getting worse and the doctors don't seem too concerend. Please help!

If you are concerned continue to consult your doctor or many doctors...consider a neurologist.
When it comes to health you are your own best advocate.
GOOD LUCK.  (+ info)
