What is the fastest way to get rid of sunburn?

I went to a river for about 6 and a half hours and i got a sunburn on my shoulders and face. I usually dnt burn so I think its just because I haven't had enough sun in awhile.

Go to the pharmacy and pick up some after sun lotion that has aloe in it. This will help take the sting out of the burn and repair your skin. Apply the moisturizer with aloe onto the sunburn a couple times a day.  (+ info)

How to relieve sunburn pain besides aloe vera?

I have terrible sunburn all down the back of my legs, so I can't walk, and can only sit. I've used half a bottle of aloe vera since yesterday. I've put wet rags under my legs, and I've prayed for the pain to stop, but it still hurts. Any cost-free home remedy to make it stop hurting?
----------

take a small towel and dampen it with white distilled vinegar. place the towel on your burn for like 1-2 hours. Yes, the smell is annoying, but the vinegar takes the heat out. The longer you leave it, on the better it works. If you get enough heat out it will just turn into a tan, no pealing, no burn.  (+ info)

How to prevent sunburn from peeling and swelling?

Okay so, the last time I had sunburn, my face swelled up like a balloon. And today I was outside all day. Is there anyway I can prevent this from happening again?? 10 points for best answer.
----------

Sunburns will peel no matter what. Why? Cause the skin is dead. Its good for it to peel.

Truthfully I've never heard of swelling, but its not unheard of.

Just use aloe vera, the green gel stuff, it feels soo good on a hot sticky sunburn. :]  (+ info)

What's a good product for preventing sunburn on my scalp?

I got a bad sunburn on my scalp a few years ago, and since then, I sunburn there very easily. I wear hats, but that isn't always practical. I have been using baby sunblock, but that doesn't do my hair any favours! What can I use for everyday sunburn protection on a very sensitive scalp?
----------

I avoided being out in the sun, because I'm sensitive and I also contacted discoid lupus 12 years ago, even though I've been avoiding the sun since I was 9, as much as possible. I also have a wide brim hat I carry with me EVERYWHERE. I mean everywhere, in the car, or just walking out & about, no matter what season.

Or use umbrella. In a country where they only have two season, using an umbrella is what they used instead of sunblock. It is the most natural thing.

There are patio umbrellas, sunbrellas, beach umbrellas & sunshades, so people who see you with umbrella when it is sunny and are being sarcastic, they're just being ignorant. I see more & more people walking with umbrellas when it is sunny, now THOSE are the smart ones!

Not only does it protect your skin, it protects your hair as well, since hair gets sunburned just like your skin and it will not get discolored.  (+ info)

What are some home remedies to help soothe a sunburn?

I've got a bad sunburn and I'm just hoping someone can help me figure out some home remedies to soothe it. All ideas welcome. Thanks! :]

How long does the redness of sunburn last?

How long does the redness of sunburn last?
I went to the beach on sunday and tanner from about 10:30 until about 5. I had very pale skin, resulting in a really bad sunburn. My main concern is the redness I can deal with the pain. Do you think the redness will go away by saturday? And how long does the pain last?
----------

oh yes, the redness will definitely be gone by saturday. possibly turn into a nice tan by then. although redness seems like it lasts because of the never-ending burning sensation it gives, it is slowly going away every day. it doesn't just stay there. you skin got burned, just like a cut, and is going to heal on its own, and have a little color on it when it does heal. as for the pain, i would definitely try aloe. it is so nice a cold to put on and delivers immediate comfort that lasts a pretty long time! good luck, and you should look great by saturday!  (+ info)

How long does sunburn last and what can help make heal faster?

I went to sixflags yesterday and got sunburn on my chest, shoulders, arms, face and legs.
I DID wear sunscreen but because I have lupus my skin is super sensitive and I still got badly burned.

Right now I'm putting on Banana boat aloe aftersun lotion but it only feels like its helping for a few minutes.

I'm in pain and look super red
Anyway I can make it heal faster?
I have plans tomorrow with my friends and Wednesday I'm going to a concert.
----------

Okay so me and a friend of mine fell asleep on a lake once. When I woke up, I had second degree burns on my back. I know they were second degree burns because for one, I couldnt move, and two, my gramma the nurse of 45 years said so. So my mom had to cut the shirt off my back to get it off but she wasnt much help in healing the pain. So...I called the one person who can ALWAYS help. Gramma!! I'll tell you what she did, but i dont know how strong of a person you are because the pain got worse before it got better. But i did as she said and when i woke up the next morning I couldnt feel a thing I PROMISE!!!

I don't know if you've tried putting ice on it. If you have Im sure you've discovered that it's worse pain then the original burn (especially when REMOVING the ice...)

So gramma gets 2 large ziplock bags and fills them with one single layer of ice.

I layed on my back and she placed them on my burn with a heavy herbal bag on top to weigh it down. I clenched the pillow with all my strength to fight the pain because I know she knows what shes doing...

Eventually the pain subsides (goes numb) and I fell asleep.

The next morning I woke up and couldnt feel a thing. Your skin is really hot before you put ice on it so using ice lowers the temperature of your skin to decrease the pain. Your burn will still be there but won't hurt anymore. Try to find someone who has a real aloe vera plant. Cut a piece of and mix the sticky filling and spread it on your back. It stinks but helps alot.

IT WILL HURT MORE THEN EVER FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES BUT IS SOOOO WORTH IT THE NEXT MORNING!!

P.S. I was only 12 when i had to go through this....I hope that helps to encourage you NOT to be a pansy, lol

WARNING: People may tell you to use Aloe Vera GEL...DO NOT do it!!! When I got this burn my mom put the aloe vera gel on me...OMG...it dried up and the only way to get it off was to get a towel wet and wipe it off...NOT A GOOD FEELING AT ALL!!! If your really burnt you know how bad that would hurt. So try REAL aloe vera!!  (+ info)
