Types of stomach conditions/diseases?

My mother has been having symptoms of lower stomach swelling, inability to digest nutrients, weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea, and severe stomach pain. She has seen a gastro-doctor, and a nutritionist and they don't really know whats wrong. Can someone give me a few conditions this could possibly be?
----------

Could be a parasite infection. That can cause every one of those symptoms.  (+ info)

Cookie Dough Cravings and Stomach Cramps can only mean one thing?

Lower back pains as well.....anyone else like SOOO tired of PMSing? Does anyone have any remedies, becase my back and stomach cramps are killing me!

Haha.....one of the suggested categories was Health....Diseases and Conditions. I don't know about you, but sometimes it does feel like a disease!
----------

I always like to get in a hot bath. As hot as I can stand it. Or I get a heating pad. You can make your own with some rice and any kind of fabric. Just sew it up at the end. Also, you could even add your own scent. I know people who have actually added cinnamon spices to theirs. But definitely heat is the best remedy for me.  (+ info)

Are there doctors out there more interested in discovering/treating new diseases than making money?

Are there doctors actually interested in learning more about obscure disorders? Who, besides blood-sucking pharmaceutical companies, does the research? There is something wrong with my stomach. Biopsies have confirmed this and the doctor who did them seemed highly interested, claiming he would show slides of my stomach at some convention. However is enthusiasm wore out about the same time as my insurance. But there must be someone out there who actually gives a damn.

See if there's a biofeedback practitioner in your area. Biofeedback is stress management, but people don't always understand what "stress" is. Stress can be physical, for example a parasite or pathogen (to name just a couple, there are countless) or it can be emotional, like long term anger or resentment. The biofeedback can measure all this and report it back to you. Even the AMA says 85% of all illness is caused by stress- but since so much of the stress is on an unconscious level, we aren't aware of the impact it has on the body. Biofeedback measures stress on both the conscious and unconscious level, which is why it could be so helpful in situations like yours. Check it out and you will be amazed! There is a site, www.thequantumalliance.com, where you can type in your location and see if any practitioners are near you.  (+ info)

Why do black people have higher risk of diseases than other races?

This is nothing racist i just want to know why. I read that black people have a higher risk of getting stomach cancer, black men have higher risk of prostate cancer, and kidney failure black people have more higher risks of heart failure and black and Hispanic woman have higher risk of breast cancer.
----------

Some diseases are just genetically harder black people. Just like how smallpox and measles were more common to native americans that in Europeans and Africans and how malaria was more prevalent Europeans than Africans

Also many black people have unhealthy lifestyles because of socioeconomic reasons that lead to higher rates of disease.   (+ info)

Can gallbladder disease cause stomach cramping or spasms after eating?

I went to the doctor and explained my symptoms, and she suspected gallbladder disease or gallstones. My symptoms include upset stomach after eating, loss of appetite, slight sensation of heartburn, and a bloating feeling 24/7.

Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone who has had gallbladder issues?
----------

It can cause stomach cramping and spasms. Especially if there is sludge in it. You might not even have a stone and still have gall bladder disease. What foods seem to make this act up? If you have greasy foods or spicy foods that seem to make it worse or put an annoying pain in your back or shoulder than it's probably related to your gall bladder. You should really have an ultra sound on it so it can be ruled out. Your pancreas and other organs are there in the same area so you should visit your doctor to get looked at. There is even blood work that can be drawn such as a P-Amylase to see what organ is involved.  (+ info)

what are some medical diseases or conditions that a person can have that makes them gain weight?

I have eaten the same way for many years and work out but I have gained 20 pounds. My stomach looks like and feel bloated all the time. I cant even suck my stomach anymore.
well I actually dont work out as much as I did because I started to feel very weak and my strength is not as it use to be.
----------

You need to see a doctor.
99.9% of the time weight gain has everything to do with lifestyle, but when it doesn't, it can be serious!

Hypothyroidism causes fatigue, and some weight gain. So if that 20 pounds happened over th course of a year or more, this might be realistic.

Certain diseases of the internal organs also cause weight gain, however it is usually abnormally distributed, for instance, in the ankles or face and neck.

Is stomach ulcer different from acid reflux disease?

Are those two different diseases? Are they related? what are they and if they are different, what symptom makes them different?

Just trying to figure something out. A bit confused about this plz help>
----------

Yes they are different. I have acid reflux disease..

Acid reflux has more to do with your esophagus. It's just acid backing up from your stomach. You can get heartburn and indigestion. I've had to deal with it so much that i've gotten my esophagus stretched because of scar tissue build up.. it gets to the point where I can't swallow any food and hardly any liquid.

A stomach ulcer is loss of the gastric lining in your stomach. Some people think they get heartburn or indigestion from it but its your stomach that's burning. Usually they can bleed and you have to get part of the stomach removed to get rid of it.  (+ info)

Like eating meat will hurt the stomach or something similar to that.

PKU is genetic disorder. People who have it can't eat meat because an amino acid called phenylalanine can't be metabolized properly. It is tested for at birth. If left untreated it leads to mental retardation.   (+ info)

Can you contract any diseases from someone else's supposedly clean drinking glass?

I didn't have anymore clean dishes so I had to use my roommate's glass to drink water from, and it's been run through the dishwasher, but ever since I used it I've been getting really bad stomach cramps! Is it possible for me to have contracted anything??
----------

I really doubt it came from a clean glass. If so, you would get sick everytime you went out to eat.  (+ info)

Is it normal for a hypochondriac to feel sick to their stomach when thinking they have a disease?

I'm not diagnosed as a hypochondriac, but I figure I am somewhat like one.
I've convinced myself that I probably have a disease and ever since then, I've felt sick to my stomach and can't think about anything else. I'm really scared. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow.
