Spondylolysis?

I suffer from Spondylolysis, its a small crack in the vertebra which can cause major back/nerve pain. And it does......
Any doctors or anyone that knows any positions or medacine that can help with the pain?
----------

If you know the clinical name for your condition, I gather you have ben diagnosed by a physician.. Have you participated in many activities where you have had extreme back flexion, such as gymnastics or was it from an accident? If pain persists, you can try some NSAIDS like ibuprofen, advil, naproxin, etc. Asperin is not an NSAID.  (+ info)

How to cure or relieve Back Pain due to Spondylolysis, a stress fracture to the Lumbar?

I have seen a doctor but due my active activity last time, the fracture was not completely cured and might not cure. So sad and demoralizing.

How did you recover from spondylolysis?

I'm a 16 year old sophmore in HS. 6 months ago I was diagnosed with spondylolysis (stress fracture in my vertebrae). I'm the captain of the baseball and basketball team, and sports are my life. I have been doing PT and resting, but it hasn't gotten any better, and it is starting to depress me. How long did it take you to come back? How did you cope with it?

I was wondering if either of these spinal problems will be an issue during pregnancy or giving birth? I'm seeing my doctor next week, but I just want a heads up about it.

My 13 yr old son has spondylolysis with minimum spondyloslisthesis of the L5 vertabrae. How serious is this?

Has anyone else gone thru this. My son is going into 8th grade this fall. He may miss football this season but can he make a full recovery for high school?
----------

I am 14 and I have had spondylolysis with very minimal spondylolisthesis of my l5 also. It is serious, but you probably wont need surgery for it. When I asked my sports med doctor if i would need surgery she was like "oh no" and she sounded very positive about it. I was in 8th grade when i got it and i missed my spring season of soccer but i was only out for 12 weeks and I played the fall perfectly! but unfortunately i have it agian and ill be out this high school season again... so MAKE SURE he keeps doing his PT even after he's healed.... it takes a couple years for it to streghthen up all the way and i messed up and was careless and didn't stretch enough. so take care, he wont be out too long !!:)  (+ info)

I have spondylolysis what should i do?

I am a sophomore in high school and found out i had spondylolysis freshman year during football season. The doctor's said to basically just work on your stomach muscles and back muscles. My back hurts frequently especially when it is cold out or i am lifting weights or other things. Every time my back is really aching i take advil. Should i continue to just keep taking advil when it hurts or do i need to go get it checked out?
----------

Have the doctor refer you to a Physical Therapist. They can treat the problem and show you proper exercises to do as well as proper exercising posture and positioning for lifting weights, etc.  (+ info)

Spondylolysis as a kid not fully healed?

I had Spondylolysis in 8th grade and I was supposed to wear a back brace for 3 months to recover...well, I only wore it for 2 because I didn't want to miss my 8th grade volleyball season ( looking back I see how stupid it was ,but back then, it was a big deal! ) Now I am older ( 20) and I still have pain in my back, especially when walking up-hill. Should I go back to the doctor? Will they give me another back brace?

Clinically there is no way to tell if your back is healed completely. Since you have decreased pain you can say that the inflammation has gone down. The surest way to say is through the CAT scan. Good luck with your test. Even though report says you are healed it is not advisable to start back until next year to be on the safer side.  (+ info)
