Smoke Inhalation Problem?

Okay, long story short my dad forgot he was boiling water and a spatula caught on fire. The whole house filled with smoke and I inhaled some of it while escaping from the house. The upper part of my throat began to hurt and the tip of my tongue felt burned. It's almost eight hours later and my throat is just scratchy-my tongue feels the same-, but I am worried. My parents say I'm fine, however I am wondering if I should have been seen by a doctor anyway? Can I die from slight smoke inhalation?

Thanks.

Smoke inhalation is smoke inhalation... no matter if it's "slight" or not.
If you are having any dyspnea (difficulty breathing) and it continues for more than a couple of days, then I would recommend you see your doctor. Your oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in your blood should be checked. If you experience any faint spells and/or nausea and vomiting, I would also recommend going to see your doctor. You know your body best, just monitor yourself and if you feel that you should seek medical attention I would do so right away. Good luck to you.  (+ info)

If your house catches fire is it likely you will wake up becuase of the smoke?

Do people really just lie there and die due to smoke inhalation or are most people likely to wake up with a bad dream or something?
I have smoke detectors, the question i am trying to ask is smoke detectors aside, will the smoke wake a person up. I often hear of people dying in there sleep because during a fire. Do most people lie there and die, or is it just a select few who dont wake up with caughing.

My smoke detectors would wake me up. But if I didn't have them then I surely hope that just coughing from the smoke would wake me up.  (+ info)

smoke inhalation and smokers?

hey i know smoke inhalation is something that people can get when fires are around and when too much smoke it breathed into the lungs,
why is it that people can can chain smoke one after the other and not get smoke inhalation.

i sometimes think i might get smoke inhalation from burning food in our kitchen from all the smoke it produces through the house, but if smoker inhale smoke so often how much smoke it needed to get smoke inhalation.

so my question is how much smoke is needed, can you get it from a simple case of burning food and why don't smokers seem to get it at all??

Can I smoke weed after a spontaneous pneumothorax?

About a week ago I had my first spontaneous pneumothorax, not due to smoke inhalation, but due to my tall lean figure. Would it now be okay for me to smoke marijuana just once?

Does second-hand smoke deplete oxygen, sort of like smoke inhalation on a smaller scale?

I have always been very sensitive to breathing in second-hand cigarette smoke. Obviously I am not and never was a smoker. My smoker-friends make the analogy that breathing in second-hand smoke is no more of an inconvenience and annoyance than breathing in somebody's strong perfume. Regardless of the obvious health-related differences between the two, can I use the argument that second-hand cigarette smoke, to some extent, actually depletes the level of oxygen I am getting, because in my opinion, it is similar to people who die not from the actual fire in their home, but from the smoke inhalation. On a much smaller scale, isn't this what cigarette smoke is doing? Depleting the oxygen around you? Because when I am directly in the "line of fire" of someone's cigarette, I literally feel like I am being lightly choked, and it is slightly harder for me to breathe? Therefore, the analogy that strong perfume odor or distant car fumes are the same as second hand cigarette smoke blowing right in one's face would not be a valid one? Correct?
----------

If you refer strictly to allergic reactions (such as what some people get from strong perfumes, cigarette smoke, etc), then it is accurate. However there are obviously significant byproducts in cigarette smoke that are harmful to your health, including carbon monoxide which can decrease the oxygen carrying capacity of your blood (by binding to hemoglobin). While it is not depleting the oxygen around you, long term exposure effects are well known - I think the link below is what you're looking for  (+ info)

Do you think i suffered any smoke inhalation if I woke up in a smoke filled room? I was sleeping for 30min.?

I was sleeping and woke up to the smell of burning. When I opened my eyes I saw that the entire apartment was filled with smoke from something left boiling on the stove. I freaked out and tried to clear the house as much as I could. I was wondering if I might have suffered some smoke inhalation while I was sleeping. I was probably asleep for about 30 minutes while the smoke filled the apartment. I've been coughing a lot today as well.
----------

Probably not, but if you find yourself coughing more or having more shortness of breath than usual, it may be a good idea to go to the ER before it gets any more dangerous.
I don't really see a problem if the house was cleared and no extinguishers were mandatory. If all else fails, peace of mind may just be to go to the ER.
I hope things are okay in your house, I'm sure that your breathing will be back to normal with the exposure to cleaner air.  (+ info)

dangers of fire smoke inhalation to pregnant women!?

hi ppl, this is a general question to which i cannot find a suitable answer to on the net.Can someone pls tell me the potential dangers to pregnant women if they inhale smoke? whether it little to nothing, majorrrrrr inhalation. i have experienced this recently, have been worried and cannot get a good enuff answer as to what can happen to mother and baby. my incident involved a paper fire and was blown out in secionds, obviously the smell remains, is that where the danger lies? i didnt cough or vomit etc or feel a lack of oxygen, so any comments would be appreciated, cheers
----------

It would be the same as if a pregnant woman had to hold her breath for a while, but that's assuming you didn't get any fresh air at all, which I know from your other question is not the case. Calm down. You didn't even feel a lack of oxygen or start coughing, so you're fine. You most likely didn't inhale enough smoke for it to have any effect whatsoever, seeing as you're having no symptoms of inhalation.  (+ info)
