I have a sore on my ankle bone. it is the size of a one pence coin, the skin is not broken, the sore seems to be underneath the skin. the skin colour is brown/red and the center of this sore patch seems soft and spongy like.
stage one of skin/pressure ulcers (or bed sores) is redness. if you have been laying in bed a lot or constantly having pressure on it, you may have the workings of an ulcer. keep pressure off of it. keep it dry...if it keeps getting worse, you should get someone to look at it. as long as the skin doesn't break, it should be ok. good luck  (+ info)

I am 66,diabetic . I know I have to care for my feet and do a fair amount of exercise .So , yesterday after walking ( maybe too much = 2 hrs 30 mn ) ,I noticed that anomaly on my toe.
I am scared by stories of gangrene , amputation ,...

Ok , No scare tactics but get to a doctor or hospital as soon as you are able, don't put it off. I speak as someone who lost all his toes on one foot and have just been visiting another diabetic friend who just lost one toe and is in hospital still with complications. Like me you hear stories about diabetics losing legs and toes but what is never stated is that most times this is caused by an injury which gets worse. Any injury to your feet is serious, take care.

sounds like a common oral sore I think is called an "apthous ulcer". It is often on the mucosa of the mouth, around gums or tongue. I found that swishing some warm salt water in your mouth several times a day can be helpful.  (+ info)

My dad had a wound in his ankle 3 years back, he has high blood sugar level and is 70 years old. Also the wound happened in the leg which was burnt and skin was grafted from other areas. The area around the wound grew as the days passed by and the wound never got healed. Can the tissue growth around the wound lead to ulcer or cancer, is there any remedy.
Wounds do not lead to cancer either its cancer or it’s not. They can ulcerate. This is not uncommon in diabetics. Why hasn’t he gone back to the doctor if it has been 3 years?  (+ info)

What is a small white ulcer on my penis ?

It began as a small patch of white skin about 4 mm across on the bottom of the glans and now appears to be turning into an ulcer as it has a red shiny bit in the middle which seems to be expanding very slowly. I'm 15 years old and am not sexually active. If it was something common i'd rather not have to go and see a doctor but if it sounds like something more serious obviously i would. Obviously I'm slightly scared and any ideas of what it is and how to get rid of it would be helpful.
Let's get this straight. This is your penis we are talking about, right? It's not like a toe where if you lose one you still have, like, 8 or 9 left. Go to your doctor, drop trow, and say "FIX THIS!, I'll take any salve, cream, pill or shot you got, but make my pee-pee better!"

I was diagnosed with a rodent skin ulcer by my doctor who i went to see 4 times about. I had it removed (local anesthetic op) it has been 3 months since the op and it seems to be growing back. My doctor mentioned nothing about cancer but looking on the web it seems to be a form of skin cancer does anyone no anymore about it? thanks

There are several forms of basal cell cancers, and the rodent variety is one of them. Usually, it's a curable cancer, but depending upon the location of it, and the size of it, there is a chance of recurrence. You didn't mention the size of the lesion or the location, but if it's recurred, you might want to consider having it removed via the Moh's technique.  (+ info)

Rodent ulcer : Sometimes known as cancer of skin, basal cell, rodent ulcer, skin cancer. A chronic persistent ulcer of the exposed skin and especially of the face that is destructive locally, spreads slowly, and is usually a carcinoma derived from basal cells.

What causes it?
Basal cells are normal skin cells. They may develop cancerous changes, causing a lump or bump that is painless. A new skin growth that ulcerates, bleeds easily, or does not heal well may indicate development of basal cell skin cancer. This type of skin cancer has a high cure rate, but neglect can allow the cancer to enlarge, causing possible disability or, in rare cases, death.

More than 90% of basal cell carcinomas occur on areas of skin that are regularly exposed to sunlight or other ultraviolet radiation. They may also occur on the scalp. The onset most commonly occurs after age 40. This cancer usually remains localised to the area of the face or scalp, where it has developed, and almost never spreads to distant parts of the body. However it may continue to grow and invade nearby tissues and structures, including the nerves, bones, and brain. does anyone know how long they take to heal? i got one on my heel from not wearing socks to volleyball practice...but it's more like a burn..so i guess you would call it a REALLY mild skin ulcer...not one of those scary crater ones...but yeah how long?
