Can a father with normal blood and a mother with sickle cell trait produce a child with sickle cell anemia?

No, they can't.

This explains it:

Does Sickle Cell disease or Sickle Cell trait cause a false positive on an HIV test?

I was just curious to know if this was possible since it's a disease of the blood and does affect the immune system and other responses of the body.

sickle cell trait vs g6pd deficient? are they one same illnessess?

are this two terms one thing? if a person has a sickle cell trait thats the same thing as saying that person has a g6pd deficient? ir these illnessess are two different things?
----------

No. G6PD Deficiency is a genetic disorder of the X chromosome which affects, among other things, the production of reduced glutathione, which is the body's big gun antioxidant. The result is that G6PD deficient red blood cells burst when exposed to oxidative stress resulting in hemolytic anemia.

Sickle Cell Anemia is similar. It's also a genetic disorder but the disorder affects hemoglobin and causes red blood cells to deform and harden. This in turn causes them to plug up arteries and produce pain from reduced blood flow.

Hope this helps.

what would you do if you were suddenly told that you may have the sickle cell trait?

Then when you go get the second blood test told that you have to talk to a medical specialist?
----------

I was told that I have a chronic illness. It is a hard thing to deal with but you go on. The best thing to do is educate yourself about it and then maybe get a support group  (+ info)

If my boyfriend has sickle cell anemia and I dont have neither the trait or diesease, will our child have it?

he have the anemia and we want children but we dont want our children to suffer with the anemia.
----------

Your child can only get it if both you and him are a carrier of the gene or have the disease.

I know this because, my sister (she's white, so she isn't a carrier or anything) had a baby and the dad was black. She asked the hospital about testing for sickle cell, and they said there is no way for the baby to have it unless both are at least a carrier.

As long as you aren't a carrier, your baby will be fine. But just make sure you aren't a carrier.  (+ info)

If my baby is born with Sickle Cell disease does me and her father have to have the trait?

i have the trait but i am not sure if her father has the trait to but she has the disease
----------

Sickle cell is what is known as an autosomal recessive trait, which means that the child receives one trait from each parent. That means that both you and the baby's father must be carriers of the sickle cell trait, even if you don't actually show the signs and symptoms of the disease.  (+ info)

my adult daughter was recently diagnosed with sickle cell trait.?

Blood test shown that my daughter was diagnosed with sickle cell trait. I do not have the trait (at least I am not aware of, however I will be getting a test conducted soon) nor do her father and most importantly at Birth - blood was drawn from my daughter for the purpose of routine tests which I though sickle cell was part of. All test were fine (negative) for any disorder. My question is can and how is this be possible that she now have a trait of sickle cell?
----------

Well, my first thought was adultery, but you'd be aware of that, so that can't be it. It might be possible that the trait remained dormant through generations or something like that. You should post this question in the biology category, you'll probably get better answers  (+ info)

Does any one know any one that has sickle cell trait? Is it any one in your family or any of your friends ?

Sickle cell trait is the common term for a sickle cell carrier.A person does not have enough iron in the body for making red blood cells.
----------

One of my best friends died from Sickle Cell a few years ago, well it was more like complications from Sickle Cell. It is a terrible disease. She had two children, and one of them has the trait while other does not have the trait. The father of her children does not have the disease nor the trait.  (+ info)

i have sickle cell trait and i know i can have pain from time to time but what about the cells?

i know that when you have sickle cell trait you dont expierence all the symptoms of the anemia but maybe some body pain. but when you carry the trait are the cells still sickle shaped or is it only sickled if you have the anemia/disease? thanks:)
----------

Sickle cell trait patients have more than a usual number of red cells with pointed ends in comparison to others. These are not sickle cells per say but they do become sickled in situations involving decreased oxygen environments.
Sickling inducement is what constituents the sickle cell test and how sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease are detected.  (+ info)

im 4 months pregnant, i was diagnosed with sickle cell trait and hpv, am i considered high risk?

should i be worried about the hpv and sickle cell trait because im pregnant and my baby can be in any harm?
----------

YEAH! Well the baby's too old now to even have the option of an abortion. But you still might consider to have some genetic testing done for the sickle cell and see if it's active in your baby. If it is... well... there isn't much you can do about it and I'm really really sorry about that. If it's inactive, then you should have NO worries. Inactive sickle cell is actually a natural antidote for malaria.
As for the HPV, not sure what to tell you (don't know much about it). Talk to your doc. about it. Wish you best of luck!  (+ info)
