What's the best way to overcome Complex Post Traumatic Stress Dissorder?

What are some ways that one can overcome the symptoms of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, such as lack of trust?
I have a workbook at home, but I'm just checking to see if maybe there are some people out there who have used a more effective method to combat the symptoms. Thank you.

Trust is a hard thing to do when you have complex post traumatic stress disorder. I have it to. What I do is I just tell the person I'm trying to build trust with that I have PTSD and I don't trust very well. They should respect your wish and help you to start trusting them. I had one person say that to me and I said ask me any question you want and I will answer honestly. I don't think books do alot for you. I think if you get out there and face your fears it will become easier and easier.  (+ info)

How to strengthen the heart or prevent myself from shock?

I have heart problem after a few shock which happen few years ago. I jump when I hear sudden loud sound and my heart really hurts. Any cure or remedies can help me from being too sensitive to sound?
----------

Were those physical shocks or an emotional shock that left you with a kind of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? Or did you have heart problems, went into cardiac arrest, and the shock paddles had to be used?

I can understand why sudden loud sounds make you jump; I'm like that as well. I'm very sensitive to sound and have had to uproot myself and move several times over the past 10 years because of excessively noisy neighbors or loud traffic (boom cars, loud motorcycles, loud aftermarket exhaust systems on autos and motorcycles).

To strengthen your heart you need to exercise daily. Even walking 1/2 an hour a day helps. It also helps you deal with the stress of excessive noise exposure your body has to endure every day. There is something called "EMDR" (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) therapy that is used for people who have suffered Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Usually psychologists and / or psychiatrists facilitate the therapy.  (+ info)

How to deal with post traumatic stress disorder?

Is there a way to deal/cure post traumatic stress disorder myself? I don't have any money or insurance to talk to a lets say counselor, nor do I really think that going to a shrink would be a good idea. I read online and am sure I have PTSD and I know exactly what caused it. There's no way to avoid situations that trigger memories. I can't lock myself up all day/night. What can I do? Are there any free support groups?

How can I shock my body back into healthy mode?

I like to stay really healthy by eating healthy and exercising, but for the past few weeks, I have been eating bad and not exercising. Now Im so tired and have a larger appetite and crave unhealthy food. Does anyone have any ideas how I can shock my body back into healthy mode? Or even some sort of "detox" that can be done ?
----------

Well - you could always try fasting for a day or two (this works best for me on weekends). You can do any kind of fast that you want - no food at all, and only fruit and veggie juice and water - nothing but fruits and veggies, no breads and starchy carbs - no junk foods or drinks. It really depends on what your "problem" area is. Personally, I like just doing the fruits and veggie juices and water for two days.
I always found that it was impossible, or at least about 1000 times harder to exercise if I wasn't eating right - I needed lots of protein, and fruits and veggies, and very little starchy carbs and pretty much no sugar at all. For me, once I was eating better, I actually had the ENERGY to work out!  (+ info)

What is better a better treatment therapy or Medicine for post traumatic stress disorder?

What are the pros and cons for therapy and for medicine when dealing with post traumatic stress disorder?
----------

It depends on where the person is at. If they are experiencing really bad symptoms and a tremendous amount of anxiety you probably want to try medication in conjunction with therapy. The meds will take the edge off and you will be better able to work through the underlying issues. Meds alone will not help much, because you have left the underlying issues unaddressed and they will get worse over time so the meds will become less effective.  (+ info)

Could an electric shock have caused me to get heart palpitations for the following two years?

I'm 16 years old, and I often get heart palpitations and heart flutters. Could this be due to the fact that two years ago i received an electric shock from a 240 volt circuit and did not seek medical advice?

When frightened or in shock does the beating strengthen your heart muscles?

I know that exercise which gets your heart beating fast is good for your hearts health as it strengthens its muscles. But is this the same as having your heart beat fast from shock or from being frightened?

I'm no specialist but if it's working faster and harder then it shoul get stronger but shock won't last as long as good ol excersise  (+ info)

If you were offered to remove a traumatic memory for good, would you do it?

Scientists have found a protein that erases traumatic memories in mice, if it was available (and safe) for humans would you try it? No other memories will be erased.

This is kind of a hard question for me...my doctor asked me to try hypnotics to try and let go of a few traumatic experiences in my life that I have had a hard time coping with sometimes. As much as I want to let them go they also make up who I am. Because of what I have gone through that has made me the strong person I am today...so I really don't know that I would do this either.

However, my son was sexually abused and tortured (lost all the skin of both his feet and left to lay in pain for 10 hours)when he was 15 months old, if I knew 100% that it would be safe for him to lose all memories of it, i would do it in a heartbeat.  (+ info)

How do i fix myself from post traumatic stress disorder?

if i mentally rehearsed the traumatic scene and took all the stress out on my punch bag all at once could it make me worst? because i tried that once and is was as if i could see and feel things again. it felt amazing, it was like i was normal again.. but after that happened i started drifting deeper into numbness until the point where i could not realize if i was alive or dead... i want to fix myself but i cant go and see anyone.. can you give me any tips that could help me recover by myself please?

thank you.
----------

I'm going through the same thing. Everyone tells me to "just get over it" and it really annoys me. But maybe it IS that simple. Just get over it, even though the pain and memory is still there, just try to busy yourself and live life and move and live beyond your feelings.

I think it's good to honor your feelings and all that, but living too much in your feelings and having your life be affected by it is not a good way of honoring your feelings.  (+ info)
