What does thebody do when it goes into shock?

I feel kinda stupid for asking this question but I kinda forgot. What does it do when it goes into shock?
----------

When your body goes into shock, it means that something traumatic is happening and the body shuts down rapidly. The body is used to dealing events at a slower rate where you can control your response. When something traumatic happens the brain cannot comprehend whats happening usually because it happens so rapidly, like being hit by a car. As a protective and defense measure, the body will pull all the blood into your center and away from your extremities in an attempt to keep the organs functioning. You will go pale due to this and you will sweatm but at the same time be cold creating a clammy feeling. Your brain has temporarily shut down so the hypothalmus gland in your brain has a hard time regulating your temperature. Hope this helps. :)  (+ info)

What's the name of this device? Electrical shock device supposed to encourage weight loss?

I remember my mother using this device in the '90s.

First she would put this gel thing on her stomach and then she put these little circles on her stomach on the gel and i think some on her arms as well. Then she'd turn the device on and it would send these little electrical shock things to her body to make her muscles clench. I don't remember much, I was only around 3-4.

Can you shock someone and not yourself if you touch them while touching an electric fence?

I have been told that if you are near an electric fence, and you shake someones hand or touch them or something, that if you grab the fence while still in contact with them, you can shock them but not yourself?
I don't see how this is possible as the current is disrupted from the fence and uses the two humans as a route to the ground, so why should it affect one and not the other? Is this true? and if so...why?
----------

i would say no, i do not see how that is possible, the person is still touching the fence therefore they would still get shocked  (+ info)

How often was electro shock treatment used on psychiatric patients before 1970s?

Was it ever used on children and for what reasons was electro shock treatment used?
Well I think there are still 'nut houses' They are usually ran as hospitals or various state dept of corrections run some facilitys for dengeriously menally ill. I am not sure how humane those hositals run by dept of corrections
I think doctors still use shock treatment now but its done alot more reserved than in the 60s, and a humane more humane.

A friend who was going through a divorce in 64 tried to hang himself. Another friend who came to visit saw him struggleing to grab something to save himself. By the time the friend broke open the door and cut him down the suicide victim was unconscious. He recovered from the hanging.

The psychiatrist decided he needed "Shock Treatments". When I went to visit him they had a whole ward of "Shock Treatment" patients. They said the treatments destroyed brain cells and made the people forget their problems. Of course, the forgot a lot of other things too. In those days they not only had whole hospital wards for "Crazy People, the had whold compounds we called "Nut Houses" or Insane Asylums. Is ever one now cured? Where are they now?

Like a lot of Medical and psuedo-medical analysis the different treatments run sickness De Jour. What ever equipment the Doctors buy it's going to get used and paid for wether it's need or not.

It wasn't used extensively on children because it was thought they weren't developed enough to be able to afford the brain cell loses.

For criminals it was used as a deterent for further crimes. The psychiatrist would over use the treatment to the extent that quite often if the person did a new crime, he'd commit suiciede rather than get more treatments.

"One flew over the Cookoos Nest" gave a little insight into the over all sadist nature of the plan. Now all the monies have been recouped from the cost of the original machines the practice has pretty passed on to a new phase. Pills.

These pillls can be given to children in abundance as well as to adults. The same people who give them out, are the ones who do the studies and prove they don't hurt the children now or later on. Unlike the priest who molest children and get taken to task decades later, the testers of humans under the guuise of medical treatment created a virtual safe haven for the testers. When they tested the results of the Negroes for syphlis contamination and even injected some healthy people with the disease, who was ever charged with a crime?  (+ info)

What should a physician do to treat insulin shock?

A. Decrease the insulin level in the blood.
B. Trigger a suppression of glycogen production.

C. Increase the glucose level in the blood.

D. Reduce the patient's water intake while triggering an increase in glycogen.

I think is A
cause what causes insulin shock is caused by an overdose of insulin
----------

C. How are you going to get insulin out of the blood without doing some sort of dialysis? It is way faster and easier solution to give them some sugar...  (+ info)

What is going on when you get an electric shock sensation in the brain?

All of the sudden I feel like I loose balance, blurry vision and this electric shock sensation that hits me in the head. These episodes last about 60 seconds. Anybody is familiar with these symptoms.?
----------

Have you recently stopped taking an antidepressant? These "brain zaps" can occur after discontinuing, or lowering the dosage of, certain antidepressants such as SSRIs. I couldn't find any other conditions that may cause these. It's possible it could also be some type of seizure. I would definitely see a doctor about this.  (+ info)
