Baby-sitting a child with shaken baby syndrome?

Tonight, I am going to baby sit a little girl that is around 8 years old with shaken baby syndrome. She lives in my neighborhood with her grandparents and I sometimes see her around and she looks really sweet, but to be honest, I really dont know what to expect. Does anyone have experience with childerent with shaken baby syndrome and has any advice for me?
----------

I don't know about Shaken baby syndrome per se, but I can tell you from experience that children who have experienced severe head traumas like shaken baby syndrome or surgery can exhibit poor judgement and impulsivity problems. My son had to have a tumor removed and it changed him into the kind of guy who doesn't think twice about jumping off the 2nd story balcony(he's 3) or trying to climb in the oven while it's on. It can also be hard to get them to focus on things and you might spend alot of time chasing her around the house....which can be highly frustrating after awhile so be prepared and remember to take time to calm down if you feel you are getting too anxious or out of control of the situation.  (+ info)

When does a baby grow out of the shaken baby syndrome threat?

So I was wondering, I know babies up to a year are susceptible to the whole SBS, but when is that risk gone? 2 yrs, 3 yrs?
Thanks guys, No I would never dream of shaking my son...I was just wondering...I had no clue you can harm even adults that way.
----------

technically? never.

SBS, or "abusive head trauma", can kill or maim a person of any age.

honestly, it's like asking "when will it be safe to kick someone in the head?".  (+ info)

What are the chances of a baby with shaken baby syndrome coming out normal?

FYI people.
It's a foster baby that's in my care.
Parents fault.
Not mine.
All i'm finding on my internet searches is 1 out of every 4 children with SBS die.
Nothing on the probability of them coming out normal.

I would just like to know the probability of the child coming out normal.

If you are asking because you're having difficulty caring for your infant, please get some help right now, Honey.
Just take the baby to a neighbor's place or call 911 if its really really bad... nobody will think badly of you for preventing injury to your child and getting the help you need.
I had a baby with colic and I know how stressful the crying can be -- if its overwhelming you GET SOME HELP.

EDIT: from your added info...
Well, that's a question just about impossible to answer.
It would depend on things like:
Severity of injury [mainly this].
Quality of medical care.
Quality / type / length of rehab.
And probably other factors...

BLESS YOU for taking care of this foster baby!!!!! There are not enough loving Mommies like you out there!!!!!!!!!

Will bouncing my baby up and down fast cause shaken baby syndrome?

My 14 month old likes it when i hold her tight and bounce up and down really fast.....i was just wondering if that might cause shaken baby syndrome...because it is a little vigorous. i didnt really think it was that bad until i saw this thing on SBS and now i am all freaked out. i mean i know not to shake my baby but will bouncing her like this cause any harm?
nothing seems wrong with her either...i have been doing it for a while...
----------

No. You really have to shake them violently to cause it. It is from a whiplash type affect. It snaps their head. He wouldn't like it.

Roughhousing type playing doesn't cause it.

Babies do LOVE bouncing! My guys go wild. They esp. love it when I hold them under their shoulders and swing them so their legs go side to side like a pendulum. Instant joy.  (+ info)

How common is it for Shaken Baby Syndrome to appear later?

Doing a project, and need information about this. Concluding, is it really possible to go undiagnosed?
----------

Any good parent would ring the doctor if they saw such a negative change in their babies personality that concerned them.

A large gash on your leg can go unnoticed but that doesn't mean it isn't there.  (+ info)

How would you ask a DR to explain Shaken Baby Syndrome?

Because my friend jiggled my daughter while she was in her carseat and im scared because im afraid it harmed my daughter....Please give any advice. Also, if a child had sbs would there soft spot bulge?
----------

You have to shake a baby pretty hard to give them SBS, it has to damage the brain stem I believe. If she was just jiggling, I'm sure she's fine, that's not something likely to happen on accident. If you think she was actually shaking her though, you need to take your baby to an ER NOW.  (+ info)

can yelling in front of baby cause shaken baby syndrome?

some1 told me it could. i know yelling in front of your baby is bad, and i know that it can be emotionally damaging. but i am just wondering if yelling in front of a baby like when the baby is lying there, and you yell in front of them really loud, at some1 else, can this cause shaken baby syndrome? and the baby cries bc you yelled.
and i dont mean while holding the baby
but while the baby is right next to you
i already know i should probbaly leave this guy as he brigns out thw worst in me but things were getting better
then he just refused to do one thing for me so i had my daughter lying down next to me and i sat up and just completely lost it with him and yelled at him, and she burst into tears.
and he had been on the computer all day not helping me
lol isabella'smummy your answers always brighten me up please do!
----------

The relationship between you and your child's father is definitely not a healthy one to expose your baby to. If you 2 want to be together, you need to go to marriage/couples counselling to help you deal with your problems. I am answering not just based on this question, but your previous questions as well.  (+ info)

Can a brief mild shake, without head flopping back and forth cause Shaken Baby Syndrome?

Daughter stopped breathing, and i picked her up and shook her mildly w/o her head bobbling back and forth.
----------

if she does it again turn her upside down. you shouldnt shake her, but i dont think it would of coursed any damage. with the shaken baby syndrom you have to shake them really bad, so the brain would be hitting the back of the brain on the skull to the front. take your child to the doctors,  (+ info)

Can the vibrateing infant seats cause shaken baby syndrome to a newborn?

----------
