What can cause the seizures that make you go into a daze?

I am waiting on tests right now.
I also can't move when it hits, but I can sort of talk, but not much. They haven't been diagnosed as seizures yet, but I am leaning toward the idea that that is what they are.
----------

If it is seizures they'll be able to tell you what type of triggers you need to avoid based on what your tests showed. Some people have light triggers, where if the light flickers at a certain speed it'll cause one. Other's have sound triggers, or visual patterns. The tests to check those use what are called "evoked potentials".

Also, some foods and medications can trigger them or lower the seizure threshold. Your doctors will know which medications to avoid if it turns out to be seizures, but the food triggers? Those are mostly trial and error. Keeping a symptom diary helps. Good luck.  (+ info)

Are tonic clonic seizures only a symptom of epilepsy or can they be associated with migraine?

I have been told that I have been having tonic clonic seizures and that these are due to epilepsy. Sometimes these seizures are so bad I have to be given Diazepam to bring me round. I am also being treated for chronic migraine and the doctor who treats me for this says that these fits are due to the migraine and not epilepsy. Is this possible? I am getting confused as none of the doctors seem to agree with each other.
----------

I myself have tonic clonic seizures since the age of 12 with no warning. you have not stated if you know one of these fits are going to happen. I used to have horrific headaches that could of been migraines. you say that doctors do not agree on a diagnosis, what clinics have you been to? Ask your Doctor to refere you to an epilepsy specialist because they cannot prescribe medication until they know what they dealing with. There are some really great specialist epilepsy units out there, here they will give you MRI scans, ECG etc these could show if you do have epilepsy. Unfortunately Nothing showed up in my scans that could be causing the epilepsy. Please remember if it is Epilepsy, medication if taken regularly can control seizures and can lead a normal life, It takes a while for the medication to actually work because the correct amounts have to be administered. after being seizure free for 5 years you will even be considered for a driving licence. Phone epilepsy help lines for advice. good luck and I hope you get the answers from doctors that you are looking for, It must be very stressful and frustrating for you. x x x  (+ info)

What can cause seizures to start in someone who has never had them?

My boyfriend started having seizures in August 2009. Since then he had 2 in Oct in one day and the same in November. He was put on dilantin(seizure meds) in November but didn't regularly take it. What could had suddenly started them back in August?
----------

It could be a number of things but not taking medication can cause them. My mother has epilepsy or seizures and her doctors do not know what caused them. If he has never had any type of head injury then he may have gotten them from late from genetics. It depends on his condition. He should ask a doctor about it.  (+ info)

How does being anorexic increase your risk of seizures?

I have been prescribed Wellbutrin an antidepressant and I am anorexic. I have read that you shouldn't take this if you have an eating disorder as you are more at risk of seizures. But how does being anorexic increase your risk of seizures?
----------

Seizures - the increased risk of seizures in Anorexic and Bulimic individuals may be caused by dehydration, hyperglycemia or ketoacidosis. It is also possible that lesions on the brain caused by long-term malnutrition and lack of oxygen-carrying cells to the brain may play a role. SOME type of antidepressants can increase the risk of seizure and usually carry a warning against prescribing them to people with Eating Disorders, unless the benefits significantly outweigh the risks.

The reason for not prescribing Welbutrin to some with an eating disorder is two-fold: 1.) Welbutrin can actually cause a person to develop an eating disorder or intensify a pre-existing condition. 2.) Welbutrin can cause seizures and the eating disorder has already put you at risk for seizures.  (+ info)

Can seizures early in life due to a high fever but not epilepsy cause frequent fainting later in life?

My sister had a few seizures during her toddler years due to high fevers. They rules out epilepsy and everything else seemed fine but since she was 11 years old shes been passing out out of the blue. Today my 19 year old sister passed out at the dinner table sitting down. I wasn't there but my mom said she was shaking and her head just hit the table. What could this be?
----------

It is possible, but they aren't necessarily related. Febrile seizures (seizures in young children due to a high fever) sometimes cause brain injury, somewhere around 5% of the time. It is possible that there was something done that causes her to pass out, but I don't think it would go unnoticed for 10 years.

I know different types of anemia can cause fatigue and even fainting. Have they checked that?  (+ info)

Does anyone know of a way to control complex partial seizures naturally?

I've had complex partial seizures for the past 3.5 years (since I was 21). I don't have them too frequently but I would like to know if someone has done something that has cured them completely or at least controlled them quite well. I would like to resume a normal lifestyle like a normal 24 year old but I'm scared because of these seizures! If anyone knows of a way that has controlled or cured them, I would like to know your suggestions! Thanks in advance!
----------

As a nurse, I have to say not really - unless you mean taking medications and easing your stress level to provoke them by eating well, not drinking, and getting enough sleep. Medication is meant to prevent your seizures from occurring, and going off these anti-epileptic medications can put you at risk of seizing again. I imagine it's a real bummer to have to take medication for a problem which is totally out of your control, but it's safer for you and possibly society. If you were to drive and have a seizure you could kill yourself and/or others, and that would not be a good plan.

Now, if it's about side effects, and that's why you don't feel like you lead a *normal lifestyle*, please work with your doc to find another drug which doesn't bother you as much. I know these medications can cause problems for people with feeling dizzy, sleepy, lose hair, have gum problems, nausea, and feeling spacey. There are many, many newer meds out and one may be a better choice than another for you.

Good luck to you, and I hope you stay seizure-free!

And for the other person who commented about *partial* seizures, that just means they start in one part of the brain, rather than the whole brain at one time. And NOT all people have seizures which make them shake all over with their arms and legs going. Partial seizures can spread to make that happen, but not all the time. Also, someone may or may not have seizures which make them unconscious - some people have *Simple* partial seizures where their mind isn't affected and the person knows it's happening. When the consciousness is affected with Partial Epilepsy, it's called a Complex Partial Seizure.  (+ info)

Why is my doctor saying I have Pseudoseizures when I was recently intubated for seizures?

My former Neurologist misdiagnosed my seizures and he says they were Pseudoseizures. Yet I was intubated 2x last time in October 2007 when they couldn't control my seizures. And the first time they put me in a medicine induced coma to stop the seizures.
Is this doctor an idiot or what? Should i report him for misdiagnosis or what?
----------

Just because he misdiagnosed you doesn't mean he should be hung, sometimes this happens, luckily for you it was discovered and you are being treated properly. Yes this Doc. should probably be spanked and shown the err of his ways so that it hopefully won't happen to someone else.  (+ info)
