Does scarlet fever as a child effect male fertility as an adult?

My husband had scarlet fever as a child, and although I know it can cause sterility as an adult, he is not sterile, since we have gotten pregnant before. I'm wondering if it could, though, effect his sperm count or any kind of infertility problems. It took us 2 years to get pregnant the first time and we miscarried in June and haven't gotten pregnant since. I'm just curious. Any information would be helpful.
----------

I don't think so.. I had scarlet fever as a child also but I'm as fertile as they come.. I'm pg with number 4 and I get pg right away too! hardly trying..

So I don't know about sperm but it didn't affect me at all  (+ info)

(m)

Scarlet fever is a rash accompanied by a sore throat caused by the streptococcus bacteria.

The disease most commonly affects children, but can occur in any age group. The characteristic symptoms are a rash and a 'strawberry tongue'. The disease is treated with antibiotics and it is usually resolved without complications.

It is a notifiable disease in the UK. This means that cases are required by law to be reported to a health officer or local government authority.

How is scarlet fever contracted?

A person can become infected with streptococcus either by touching or through airborne droplets. Scarlet fever appears together with a streptococcal sore throat. The incubation period - the time that passes from infection until the outbreak of the disease - is two to four days.

What are the symptoms of scarlet fever?

A sore throat.

A temperature.

Headache.

Feeling generally unwell.

A rash that develops within 12 hours of the onset and rapidly becomes generalised.

The face is spared, but cheeks are flushed, and the child looks 'scarlet' except for the area around the mouth.

The rash fades after a few days, or sooner if treatment with antibiotics is given, following which the skin undergoes peeling.

The tongue has a thick, white coating that peels after four or five days, producing a red strawberry appearance.

Good advice

When the symptoms appear consult a GP.

Pain on swallowing may be eased by hot drinks and soft food.

Give the patient plenty of fluids.

How does the doctor make a diagnosis?

By looking at the symptoms and examining the throat.

How is scarlet fever treated?

The disease normally disappears within a week without any problems.

The rash may last for a very short time particularly if the patient is treated quickly with antibiotics.

If the patient is allergic to penicillin they are usually treated with erythromycin (eg Erythroped).  (+ info)

Is my post-nasal drip and constant throat clearing linked to childhood scarlet fever?

I have to clear my throat all the time because it feels like i have a chronic post-nasal drip all year round. I rarely get an actual cold though. I was wondering if maybe this has anything to do with my having scarlet fever when I was 9 years old. I also had strep throat many times.
Also, what can i do to keep my throat clear?
It seems that I'm only able to sing when I blast the heat.
----------

ever since the first time i had strep throat (age 7- Im now 18) i had post nasal drip all year around (like you) I get strep enough and basically i have a lot of problems with my throat and also have asthma. i think that it is possible that the 2 are linked.
oh and i find drinking a lot of water helps. and eating plain crackers helps me!!  (+ info)

Can step throat develop into scarlet fever?

Well my throat hurts again and i have a red rash on my face and my mouth has little red bumps every where. Could his be scarlet fever?

----------

Yes, strep throat can develop into scarlet fever.

One of the 'classic' signs of scarlet fever is a bright red tongue. Is your tongue bright red?

Does your rash resemble a sunburn? The rash associated with scarlet fever looks similar to a sunburn with bumps that itch.

Your symptoms do sound like they may be scarlet fever. Go to the doctor ASAP and get checked out. It's better to be safe than sorry, anyway.  (+ info)

Is Scarlet Fever treated along with Strep Throat?

I went to the doctor for Strep Throat and received my antibiotics. I am now getting symptoms of Scarlet Fever also. Will my antibiotics (Amoxicillin) treat the Scarlet Fever as well?
