getting rid of rickets?

ok so when i was 8 years old until i was 13 i suffered from anorexia and i never ate enough. as a result i've ended up with rickets and i'm fairly skinny and small (i am now 16). i eat alot now (im healthy) but my rickets have stayed and they always prevent me wearing skirts and skinny jeans cos i've had people before point them out, which is embarrassing.

is there any chance atall that my legs will straighten out?

Not without surgery - and I don't know how orthopedic surgeons think about this, you might ask one.  (+ info)

Bless you for being a loving big sister, I can only imagine how big your heart is!!
It sounds like your brother's neglect has lead to developmental slowing....play with him as you would a younger child... say 8-10 month old... music, pick him up and dance with him, bright rattles and soft toys he can hug... big chunky crayons and paper, by himself, try one on one time rather than mixing him in with your children all the time, but let him see how the others play and interact with you. He needs alot of hugs and affection. Don't expect him to catch up overnight, this is going to take time and love, but the results will be a happy toddler, God willing.
Your closest Childrens Hospital is the best place to start for professional help. They can administer developmental tests to determine exactly what is happening with him and set up a treatment program.
Make sure he is getting good nutitional foods, even if it means going back to a good formula. Try your local WIC office for nutritional help ( Womens, Infants and Children, usually in the phone books "blue pages")
As long as you are consitant and caring he will bloom. Another good group to look at would be an adoptive parenting site dealing with forgien children that have no English....my friends little boy from Russia had a difficult time at first understanding unconditional love, and hugs became the solution. Try making a "hugging" game with all three children.. set them on the flor and sing a silly hugging song yoou can make up, " Johnny gets a hug, Suzy gets a hug, Jerry gets a hug, huggy huggy lovey hugs, from Mommy!)
God Bless, let us know how things turn out!  (+ info)

I'm 16. My legs(under the knee) have been feeling weird and look like i have rickets....?

I've been taking calcium & vitamin D tablets for the past six months daily, But it's only getting worse!!
WHAT DO I DO???????????????????
----------

You have to be a little more clear in what you mean by "look like I have Rickets". Your entire question needs some additional explaining what you mean. Rickets is primarily caused by a lack of Vitamin D, so specifically why do you feel like you have rickets. What physical signs do you have.

Considering you are taking vitamin D I doubt you have rickets, I think you do need to go see your family doctor and explain everything to him. You have something going on, but not rickets.pp  (+ info)

is there a cure for rickets?

are there any drugs that could cure rickets?
----------

It depends on whether you have intrinsic or extrinsic rickets. With intrinsic, you are unable to utilize Vit D. With extrinsic, you are merely not being exposed to VitD by way of diet/sun exposure.  (+ info)

Are you sure it's rickets?

If so, remember that rickets is Vitamin D deficiency of childhood. Feed your children well-balanced diets that include Vita D.  (+ info)

Know of any children that has or has had rickets?

This is from the Centers for Disease Control website, dated March 2001:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Public Health, recently identified six cases of nutritional rickets and three cases of other nutritional deficiencies in young children, according to a report in the March 30, 2001, issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) published by CDC.
Nutritional rickets, a condition that causes weak or deformed bones in young people, is rare in the United States since the introduction of vitamin-D fortified milk and infant formula several decades ago. Health officials identified these cases among children who were admitted to Georgia hospitals for malnutrition. The cases occurred in infants who had been breast-fed for more than 6 months without receiving vitamin-D supplements.  (+ info)

do i have rickets, my legs bend?

my legs have always bent slightly inwards, then in the paper i read an article about rickets, do you think i have rickets?
----------

One way to find out, increase your intake of vitamin D (from 15 minutes of sun, or oily fish)
If after a while, your legs aren't as bent, then you can assume it was rickets.

Or it could be possible that you have bowed legs

If you are really worried, see your doctor :)  (+ info)
