A nodule on my left armpit is a concern.Medical professionals and anyone who remembers a sensitive lymph node?

I am not diagnosed with any terminal disease, yet I realize the lymph nodes are crucial for immunity. Would you go to the doctor without many major symptoms? I have been experiencing difficulty with bowel movements.

What could pea size nodule be on my 7 year old son's trapezoid?

My son has a small (pea size), hard nodule on his upper back. It's located on his left trap. muscle. It doesn't move and I am very nervous it may be something serious. I plan to take him to the Pediatrician on Monday but thought I'd check to see if anyone else has an idea first.
----------

It is hard to determine the nature of the nodule just by feeling but a hard nodule would always be a concern. The only way to know for sure is if it is removed and send for examination. You need to have your doctor examine it.  (+ info)

My MRI showed a nodule/polyp with its own blood supply in the superior maxillary sinus. Should I be worried?

I am a 47 year old non-smoker in good health. This was found incidentally when doing a brain MRI with contrast. The radiologist called the internist and they scheduled an ENT visit for me because they said I must get in ASAP.
----------

All polyps have a blood supply, all this means is it has be removed and evaluated. You are getting great medical care and you should be pleased that the radiologist was so thorough to refere you to an ENT.

It does need to be evaluated but it sound like you don;t have to worrly about it.  (+ info)

Does drinking Ice water/ cold drinks daily cause rheumatic in old days?

Asian people especially Chinese believes that drinking ice water/ cold drinks can cause rheumatic in old days. And it is worst if you drink it in the morning.
What is your opion? And does anybody have any scientific fact to back this theory?
----------

Well first of all, there's no condition called rheumatic. :)

I'm not sure if you're thinking of rheumatic fever, or rheumatoid arthritis, but it doesn't really matter because drinking ice water or cold drinks neither contributes to or caused either condition.

Rheumatic fever is an inflammatory disease that can develop as a complication of untreated or poorly treated strep throat. Strep throat is caused by infection with group A streptococcus bacteria.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory form of arthritis that causes joint pain and damage. Rheumatoid arthritis attacks the lining of your joints (synovium) causing swelling that can result in aching and throbbing and eventually deformity.

What you're talking about is a superstition or old wives' tale, nothing more.  (+ info)

I had rheumatic fever at the age of 9 in 1959. What long-term effects can I expect?

I led a normal life, with some rrestrictions, ever since. I played 2 years of high school football and served 4 years in the Navy.
----------

Rheumatic fever can involve the heart at the time of the infection but it doesn't always. Long term damage would typically involve the heart valves and began to become evident about 20 years after the acute problem. If you are healthy, have no cardiac symptoms and your doctor has detected no heart murmurs or valvular problems chances are good that you are home free.  (+ info)

How long till rheumatic fever damages the heart?

How long does it take from the time of the initial strep infection (the sore throat) till the continuing infection causes significant damage to the heart?
----------

There is no exact answer to this, since the manifestation of rheumatic fever varies from case to case, with some patients showing a high rate of disease manifestation during the infection while some patients manifest the rheumatic fever symptoms way later after the infection even receded. In any case, two factors that contribute to the manifestation of the disease itself is the release of antigenic proteins of the Streptococcus organism (most likely Streptococcus pyogenes) and the antibodies released by our immune system to the antigens.

The antigen (M protein if I recall correctly) released by the bacterium mimics the endocardial protein of the heart, which can be recognized by our immune system, whereupon antibodies are made for these antigens. There is no problem, at least to some degree, when the antibodies to the antigenic proteins are perform opsonization in the bloodstream; autoimmune disease, however, results in the case where our antibodies cross-over to the endocardium of our heart (since the antigenic proteins and the endocardial proteins are similar), causing damage within the heart itself.

You probably know the sequence of events for the pathogenesis of rheumatic fever...the kinetics, however, which you inquire is varied in a lot of ways, since antigenic proteins could or could not be released by the bacterium, which could depend on a number of factors; the same thing with the anti-bodies...our immune system is efficient enough not to release antibodies that would damage our own cells/tissues (recognizing "self" from "non-self" as one hallmark of the immune system).

Also, some rheumatic fever cases vary in their own degrees as well, since some have greater damage than the other, but they are all dependent on the chemical factors that are involved in the disease.

Hope this helps in some way!  (+ info)
