Can I have respiratory infections easily if I have my tonsils out?

I have recurrent tonsillitis but I am worried if I can easily acquire respiratory infections if I had my tonsils out.
----------

This is one of those "6 of one and half dozen of the other" kind of questions. With tonsillitis you will get respiratory infections anyway. So it really doesn't matter if you have them out or not. It may be easier to deal with, without the tonsillitis, so I would say to have them out.  (+ info)

explain why smokers have an increased incidence of coughing anf respiratory infections?

Expose to tobacco smoke immoblizes cilla, and they eventullay disaapear. How mihg this efrfect.
----------

smoking paralyzes the cilliated epithelial cells in your throat and these handy little cells have tiny hairs on that 'woft' out bad germs and bugs that could cause infections. the chemicals and such in cigarette smoke paralyze them and stop them from moving letting these nasty things in, resultingin more infections !

hope ive helped ! i love my science teacher :P  (+ info)

Are there OTC medications for upper respiratory infections?

My whole body has been aching for a few days and now it's hurting the upper part of my lungs when I breathe. There's no coughing and my nose isn't runny, so I don't want to take cough medicine.

Are there any kinds of medications that I can just get OTC or should I go to a doctor?

Also, I did stop taking antibiotics prematurely because they were making me nauseous. They were for a sinus infection, if that matters.
----------

Body aches and painful lungs? Are you running a fever? Could be the flu. I would go see the doctor, or at least call. Go get some Advil flu (you can buy the store brand generic). This will help. You really don't want to play with the breathing thing. Call your family doctor and they will let you know if you need to come in. As for the antibiotics and the sinus infection, yeah could be a problem. You just may need a different antibiotic. Never stop an antibiotic early. It just builds up resistant bacteria. Call the doctor, and good luck. Oh yeah, get the Advil flu in the meantime.  (+ info)

My normal resting pulse rate generally runs about 82 bpm. I've had a bad respiratory virus the past week and

I've noticed it is running in the high 90's all week. I haven't had a fever, but had chills, bodyaches, etc. Can illnesses such as this cause heart rate to increase?

Thanks!
----------

Yes- illness can cause heart rate changes, but your rate is still within the normal range. A normal rate is 60–100 beats per minute for adults, and 40–60 beats per minute for those who are athletes.  (+ info)

What do you take when you feel a cold or upper respiratory virus coming on?

What I do is sometimes I will take a double dose of nyquil and or theraflu and just sleep it off, those two things are two of the absolute best things for taking away symptoms of sicknesses like those plus I think it helps you get better because it knocks you out and allows you to rest. Also many times what I will do but this method is not for everyone, I will take a nice bottle of moonshine and get sloppy drunk on it and for some reason it seems to kick the cold out really well. Though none of these things are good for you but they are the best things for making you feel better. The other thing I will do is bake a bunch of garlic cloves and eat plenty of them as well as inhale some sea salt water with eucalyptus leaves in it from steam on the stove or humidifier or something.  (+ info)

HIV Virus Infections Attracted To Any Specific Locus?

I am wondering if a vaccine for HIV could be practical if the scientists only had to worry about just certain parts of the genome/DNA.
Are infectious viruses attracted to certain locations (loci?) of the genome.
If that was the case then perhaps just a small part of the DNA could be inhibited by drugs.
----------

*buzzer* wrong!

The HIV "nucleic" acid is predatory in nature and attaches wherever it wants.

Besides if we could inhibit DNA that effectively we could have healed a lot more then HIV.

The real deal is in membrane p[roteins that HIV uses. HIV immune people lack these proteins and cannot get sick even with HIV in their system.  (+ info)

Does anybody know if Grape seed extract is good for respiratory infections?

Or any other kind of infection?
----------

Grape seed extract is a very good antioxident, and is among the highest in linoleic acid and the lowest in saturated fats. It's sold by itsef (in canada) as a strong antioxident to help boost the immune system, I don't know if JUST taking that, would cure a respitory infection, I would use it along side other antioxidents, such as Garlic,Co-Q-10,Vitamin A,Vitamin C w/bioflavonoids, Vitamin E, Zinc, and a good Vitamin B complex.  (+ info)
