How does rectal temperature compare to oral?

I have a 1 year old with a rectal tempature of 101.3. How does a rectal tempature compare to tempature taken orally? Are there charts or can you just add 1 or subtract 1 to get the right answer. Please cite your source.
----------

I know you do that add or reduce a degree or something like that, but I don't know which...this could help you with that though http://parenting.ivillage.com/baby/bhealth/0,,3q7q,00.html or http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/491657 I believe the whole idea of those articles, the rectal temperature is the correct one. No adding or subtracting needed.

I do know that if the temperature is taken rectally, then normal temperatures run from 98.9 to 100.4. http://www.medhelp.org/glossary2/new/GLS_3965.HTM

To avoid all that confusion, and because I didn't want to stick that poor thing in my son, I went out and bought the same thermometer that his doctor uses. It just scans his forehead. Quick 2 second scan across the forehead to give you the temperature.

Granted, it was $50, it's worth the money.

This tells you all the normal temperatures no matter where you check on the baby....http://www.webmd.com/hw/health_guide_atoz/tw9223.asp  (+ info)

How should I insert a rectal thermometer into my 6 month old baby?

My doctor has instructed me to use a rectal thermometer on my baby. Please describe in detail how to. I don't want to hurt her. Will she cry? How should I hold her?
----------

A rectal temp is the most accurate because you are getting the temperature of the core of the body.

Lay your baby on his back with his diaper off. Lift up his legs with one hand (just as if you are changing his diaper). If he's wiggling around a lot, you might want to try laying him on his side and pushing the top leg up towards his belly. Insert the silver tip of the thermometer into his rectum. Hold it there for 2 minutes before getting your reading. It won't be easy to keep your 6 month old still if he's awake, so be ready to distract him with some silly songs and faces. And don't worry...this won't hurt him at all.

Good luck!  (+ info)

How do you get rid of rectal fungus from using Doxycycline?

If antibiotics can cause a rectal area fungus how do you get rid of it Mr dr has tried a cream now on my second round of antibiotics not including the first one that caused the problem.. I can't take it anymore any suggestions.
----------

you definitely need to get rid of fungus!

for me worked very well ZetaClear! I think it is the fastest way to get rid of fungus! Nail fungus is tough to treat. The extracts in Zetaclear provide the most powerful therapeutic effect for healthy looking nails.

Obviously, you can't spray herbicide on your feet or hands! The next best thing is Zetaclear. It's made from all-natural homeopathic ingredients. This product works time after time and results are guaranteed. This extra strength solution is designed to be as aggressive and strong as possible, without causing irritation.

It worked fast and still works for me!

I do not know if any pharmacies carry ZetaClear but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.zetaclear.com/?aid=749165  (+ info)

What happens during a rectal exam and will I have to have an enema before the exam?

I'm a 16 year old girl who is constantly getting constipated, so my mom scheduled an appt. for me to get a rectal exam. This is my first rectal exam and I'm scared of the idea of someone examining my rectum. Will someone please explain what happens during the rectal exam
----------

I had one done before.. they'll make you get in a gown and take your panties off.. but they'll ask you to turn on one side.. There will be a doctor and a nurse with you, especially if the doctor is of the opposite sex.. He or she will insert a rod (its as tiny as like a thermometer), with a camera attached. They'll look to see if theres any blockages, and go from there..

hope this helps :)

Also, remember.. the best part to remember is to R.E.L.A.X. if youre relaxed, it wont hurt.  (+ info)

How do you ease rectal trauma without taking drugs?

I had anal intercourse with my chick last week and now, 5 days later, she is still experiencing sever rectal pain. She happens to be allergic to Aspirin, Tylenol, and Motrin so is there any way to help ease her pain naturally?
----------

She should see a doctor ASAP -- go to the emergency room if she can't get in to see her doctor. She may have internal bleeding and this is just way to serious to ignore for one more minute.

Don't be embarrassed to get professional help -- this is not unusual.  (+ info)
