I fractured my radius bone and the doctor said I should only be in a cast for 3 weeks. Is this even possible?

Don't most fractures need 6-8 weeks. Should I even be hopeful that this will occur?

fractured radius still hurts after fracturing it 2 years ago.How do i stop this?

i fractured my wrist radius at the age of 12. i am 14 and to this day it still hurts when i put a lot of force to my radius. like hanging or boxing. when i punch in boxing it hurts very bad. what do i do to make it stop hurting? is there a natural cure?
----------

Normal! This type of injury take for ever to heal and re-occur on slightest staining.

Must give up these activities for a long time to come.

But do see the Dr. and have it checked out to see more crack or fractures are caused by this last episode of activities.

General at home treatment are:

1). Rest.
2). Cold and Hot compressions, alternately.
3). Pain killers such as Aspirin/Tylenol.
4). Vitamin B6 it help rejuvenate the tissues.

Hope you have seen a Dr. and had a X' Rayed taken, or had MRI done. Make an appointment for a Dr. and if need be cancel it later in time to avoid visit fees, if you get batter in time.  (+ info)

How long will u be in a cast with a compound fracture of the ulna and radius?

My friend broke his ulna and radius today in a wrestling meet and is going into surgery tomorow to get a pin. how long will he be in a cast?
----------

Depending on the severity of the injury...After surgery your friend will be wrapped up for approximately 2 weeks. After-wards the wraps will come off and he will be fitted with another type of support and start therapy almost immediately. After this your friend can expect to be in therapy for months and his arm will start feeling like his arm in a year or so. Its a slow process but don't be discouraged.  (+ info)

Removing pins due to a distal radius fracture?

I have two pins inserted in my wrist due to a distal radius fracture. I have the option to be put under general anestesia or have them pull the pins out of my wrist while I am awake. Anyone out there who has had this done? What should I do?
----------

I'd say just general anesthesia...they just slide them right out  (+ info)

Would it be stupid to play with a slightly fractured radius?

I fractured my radius and the doctor said I'd be out in a cast for 3 weeks and in a brace for one... but the athletic trainer said I could play as early as tomorrow because she could pad it for me. Now I don't plan to for the next few days, but would it be dumb? I play football- Inside Linebacker. The season is just starting and I really want to play.
----------

You must be a good players and valuable to your team if your coach wants you to play too soon.

Sometimes trainers push people too hard, and they don't have the player's interests at heart. They will sacrifice your health to have a strong team.

If you use your arm when it is injured it may not heal properly and you might set yourself up for early osteoarthritis later in life.

You should follow your doctor's recommendations.   (+ info)

will i lose arm muscle due to a fractured radius?

hi. i have just fractured mu radius playing football. my forearm will be in a cast/pot fot approx 5 weeks. will my bicep or forearm decrease in size? what can i do to prevent the muscle decreasing?
thank you.
----------

i broke my arm in 6th grade and i was in a cast for about 5 weeks too. i'm guessing your in pretty good health right now so you're pretty fit. sadly though, you will a very very little bit of muscle. your forearm will appear barely smaller than the other, but as soon as you're cleared to work out again, you'll be back to where you were before you broke it. your arm will lose some muscle and fat because it's not being moved and worked out so it'll be a bit weak for awhile. normally your arms will never be the exact same anyway. your dominant side will always be more muscular than your recessive side. just remember to start off slow with working out after your doctor cleared you, because you don't want to re-injure it. and there's not that much that you can do while you're in a cast besides just let happen. moving it a lot while in the cast can make the fracture worse (sorry)
hope i helped and good luck!  (+ info)
