What does HEMATURIA & PROTEINURIA mean?

I'm a 20 year old female. I had a physical exam done about a month ago. The physical exam consisted of a urine, blood, and ultra sound exam. I was diagnosed with HEMATURIA & PROTEINURIA. I have absolutely no idea what this means. I have extremely irregular periods and was told this was due to Teratomas in my ovaries. Does hematuria and proteinuria have anything to do with my teratomas? Is this bad?? Please help, i'm super scared!! Can someone explain exactly what these two terms mean?

What is proteinuria? Can it be cured?

Is there a cure for it or something? How does it happen? My 15 year old cousin has it. I mean I looked it up on the internet, but it's not really helping me. What is it? What is it? Please, tell me. I don't want her to die or something from it.
----------

Proteinuria is simply protein in the urine. It can be caused by a whole list of things. The most common are diabetes, kidney issues, using drugs like ibuprofen and other NSAIDS, excessive stress, dehydration...the only sure way to know is for her to consult with her physician/HCP. Most of the causes aren't particularly serious, but they do need to be identified and treated.  (+ info)

Proteinuria? Is this dangerous?

I went and took a physical less than a week ago and I gave a specimen of urine. The doctor told me that they found some protein in my specimen and gave me several others to bring to him in about a week (couple days from today). I searces the web and it looks like Proteinuria? What does this mean, kidney dicease, and how bad?

I'm olnly 17 is this serious?
----------

Proteinuria is a sign of kidney disease but there are a number of other reasons for protein to be found in the urine that are not serious. Additionally, there may be causes for false positive protein reactives on the dipstick used to test your urine.

At your age, I'm willing to bet you are an athletic young man who has passed some myoglobin (a muscle protein) into your urine after exercising. This is normal and transient.

Your doctor is doing the right thing to repeat the test.  (+ info)

Is it possible to be diabetic with a fasting glucose of 94?

The docs say no, but I am overweight, I have proteinuria, and my Mom had type 2 diabetes.
----------

You could still have insulin resistance or type 2 which you may need a GTT (glucose tolerence test) to diagnose. But it seems your doctor had no cause to order one of those so I wouldn't worry too much about it, you can just mention it next time you are at the doctors if you are concerned.  (+ info)
