Late postpartum hemorrhage?

I had my baby more than 3 weeks ago and sorry if this is TMI. But I am still having bright red gushing blood. I never had this problem with my first two babies. Could this be a Late postpartum hemorrhage or am I worried for nothing?
----------

Well first of all CONGRATS! 2nd don't mess around get checked. However, not to be flippant about it yeah that does happen more with each baby. The uterus doesn't contract back as quickly as it once did so it can go on longer. Did you notice that when they "helped you " by pushing on your abdomen after you gave birth that you really wanted to hurt the nurse. it hurt a lot more After each one when they do it because that uterus is a bit more tired. It should be fine, but don't take chances check it out.  (+ info)

late postpartum hemorrhage?

If you were to get late postpartum hemorrhage would you know? I had my baby 10 days ago and i'm not soaking pads but the discharge is dark pink its occasionally there will be red on it but i always assumed it was from one of the tears that i had. so if the hemorrhage started would the blood be comming out constantly and not stopping or would you not know because its all inside
----------

What you have sounds pretty normal. I would only start worrying if you have large clots coming out and gushes of red blood. I bled for almost 6 weeks after my daughter and that was considered normal. For about three weeks postpartum my bleeding was red. Hope this helps.  (+ info)

i had a Postpartum Hemorrhage with my last baby, will this happen again if i have another baby?

Hi Everyone!
right i just had my son 5 months ago, after he was delivered my uterus didnt contract which caused me to have a Postpartum Hemorrhage, my blood loss was 600ml it was very scary i felt fine in myself didnt even know what was going on, untill i was told after my bleeding was under control i kind of knew something was wrong when i saw the look on my partner's face, i was told the reason i had a Postpartum Hemorrhage was because my labour was very quick 47 mins, so therefor my uterus didnt know wether to contract or not, i have been told that if i wanted to have another baby then my labour could be even quicker, so does that mean that i am at even higher risk of having a Postpartum Hemorrhage again?
----------

Good day to you
I had postpartum hemorrhage like you did with my last baby who was born last march and they had to give me a shot but i didnt need any blood. i am currently 22 weeks 6 days pregnant with my second and last child due to complications during the pregnancy. i was told my by obgyn that it doesnt mean that i will hemorrhage again but they are aware of it and will do anything to stop it this time. my advice would be to talk to your doctor because every women is diffrent as is every pregnancy when you do decide to get pregnant again and then you can go from there good luck and congradulations on your son having boys are so much fun good luck in the future  (+ info)

anyone have a Postpartum Hemorrhage with their first child?

i had a severe Postpartum Hemorrhage with my first child and had to have a blood transfusion. the doctor that dealt with my hemorrhage told me that it was unlikely i would be able to deliver vaginally again. my new baby doctor, told me it will be fine and wants me to have a natural birth. is this okay? should i request a c-section? friends and family suggest i should. on an added note, my daughter was just about a c-section. if she didnt come that push she would have been. im sure this baby is at least her size or more.
i researched that, and am aware that it is a greater risk with a c-section, i am not sure why they told me that. but my hemorrhage wasnt due to left over placenta, they had to send my blood clots to a lab to be sure. they think it is because my uterus doesnt contract they way it should.
----------

Each pregnancy is different, so what happened last time is not necessarily what will happen this time.

Natural childbirth is the best option, I believe. Check out this website from the University of Virginia (a very respected medical college).
http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/uvahealth/peds_hrpregnant/postpart.cfm

It says that PPH is MORE LIKELY with C-section. But what is most important is that you don't let these doctors intimidate you about your birth decisions. They're always going to push you towards what is convenient for them and whatever makes the biggest buck. Research your options in your area, like birthing centers and natural childbirth articles. Have faith that your body can do this!

(Addition:) If your uterus doesn't contract properly, simply massaging it regularly postpartum could help. If it's more severe, they give you pitocin to encourage uterine contractions to stop the hemorrhage.  (+ info)

Anyone one else have a postpartum hemorrhage?

I had my second child at 1043 at night and when i went to stand up at 6 am the next morning to go to the bathroom i had a huge gush of blood that saturated me and was all over the floor but i walked to the bathroom anyways and sat down to go pee and i thought i was peeing but after twenty minute i realized that i was bleeding the whole toilet was full of blood it was awful so i hit the call light and the nurse came in freaked out called for help then rushed me back to my bed they then called my ob while massaging my stomache it was awful i was hurting so bad they did that for a half and hr but it didnt help at all so they hooked me up to petocin and gave me some pills and still massaged my stomache it took them three hrs to control the bleeding completly everytime they thought it had stopped there would be a huge gush of blood then my bp dropped to 67/41 and it was awful anyways my ob came in and told me i had a postpartum hemorrhage and that i was close to needing surgery or it could be fatal well with the pills . iv petocin and the massaging they eventually got it under control. I was terrified. and to make a bad situation worse i had had to be induced six weeks early because i had oligohydraminos and my poor daughter couldnt survive if she stayed in womb so she ended up going to nicu for respiratory distress and she wasnt aloud out of nicu and i wasnt aloud out of bed cuz of my issues and now im just plain terrified to even have sex . i got mirena after the birth of my second but i still worry something will happen and i will get pregnant and not make it through is this completely stupid or what? anyways i was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and had another baby because i think i would feel much better to hear someone else say they did have another one and everything was fine. thanks for listening dolls it was much needed

whats the meaning of postpartum hemorrhage ??

A postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is excessive bleeding in the mother(more than 500ml / 1 pint) following childbirth. It can occur soon after delivery (when it is known as a primary postpartum hemorrhage) or several days later (secondary postpartum hemorrhage).
PPH can occur after both caesarean and vaginal deliveries. Normally the mother will be offered a oxytocic drug when the placenta is delivered. This helps to minimise the risk of PPH.  (+ info)

What Is Used to Stop Postpartum Hemorrhaging?

I had a midwife tell me she used an injection of ______? It was something that started with the letter O, I think. Was it Oxytocin?? Or what was it? 10 points thanks
----------

Pitosin, it is the synthetic form of oxytocin, which is also used to induce women into labor. It causes the uterus to contract.

When I had my first daughter the pitosin didnt work and the doctor had to internally fixate my uterus. Worse case senario they do an emergency hysterectomy.  (+ info)

For postpartum weight loss at home, which piece of equipment would you suggest purhcasing?

I'm due the beginning of July and I'm planning ahead for postpartum weightloss.
Due to being a single-parent-to-be I won't be able to go to the gym so I've decided to invest in some exercise equipment for when the time comes to lose weight, without having to leave my home and the baby.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what will be most effective?
Treadmill?
Elliptical?
Stepper?

Things like that, anything.

Any suggestions are appreciated! Thank you!
----------

Out of those three, the elliptical in my opinion is most effective. But for my postpardum weight loss, I just did Tae Bo DVDs and lots of walking. The tae bo I did after the baby went to bed and walking I did with the baby. I lost 65lbs in 10 months if that helps!  (+ info)

How long postpartum were you in maternity clothes?

also, is it true that breast feeding makes you lose weight quicker? Im planning on breast feeding and i have heard that women that BF tend to lose the postpartum belly quicker...is there any truth to that?
im planning on BFing as long as possible, not because i heard it can help me lose weight but for my babys benifet, dont get me wrong the weight thing is a plus though lol.
i also dont think i will EVER be back in my regular clothes. i am 5 foot 9 and i only weighed about 130 before i got pregnant. i was 15 pounds underweight. i am totally aware and have accepted the fact that my hips and butt will never be as slim as they used to be and im tooootally okay with that. im just SO ready to be able to button my jeans instead of just pull them on haha...
what i meant by regular clothes was my jeans that i have from before i got pregnant, i know i will fit into the shirts and maybe a couple of pairs of the jeans..but not most haha
----------

yes there is a lot of truth to losing weight while breastfeeding, however eat healthy and plenty of exercise helps as well.
The first few days will help you tighten up a lot, even though it will hurt, massage your belly for the first few days as the nurses should show you to do to help you uterus shrink back to normal.

Breastfeeding is hard though and I would advise learn as much as you can and listen to the nurses and breast feeding assistants there.

+ go grab some lanolin while you are at it (helps with cracked or dry nipples), plenty of breast pads too =D  (+ info)

Is it possible to suddenly develop postpartum depression when your baby is 6 months old?

I had this with my middle child so I know what it feels like. My youngest is 6 months old and I am suddenly feeling symptoms of postpartum depression. I was just fine until now. I breastfeed only and there have been no changes with that at all. I have been losing about half a pound every day or two also, for no reason at all. Is it just hormones being goofy or something else?
----------

Yes you can develop post-partum depression any time during the first year.

Also some women that previously had post partum depression will develop depression at other times.

However with the weight loss it would be a very good idea to have your thyroid levels checked and low thyroid is also common after birth, can cause depression. While its more commonly associated with weight gain when it causes depression it can also cause weight loss. While you are there you should get your iron and insulin levels checked as well.  (+ info)
