Why most of the drugs having side effect vomiting and nausea?

Most of the pharmaceutical drugs have side effect such as nausea, vomiting , diarrhea, headache.

Is the drug causing unwanted reaction which kind of mechanism behind this common side effect is there?

Can anyone tell me in simple language.

Thanks in advanced

This is a really good question!
I don't really know the answer to this, though i think it is because our stomach, and intestines are very sensitive, and these medications that our bodies are not at all use to, probably goes into a little state of shock perhaps, or it just simply sets off the little nerves in our stomach that tell the brain that then feel sick. I'm really not that sure, but i do think it goes something alone the lines of that.

how to help soothe nausea and vomiting in pregnancy?

I heard that mint liquor can help soothe and prevent a pregnant mum from nausea and vomiting in pregnancy.

Any other ways to help with this discomfort?

Thank you all!! very spontaneous replies. its for my coming 12weeks expecting wife , our first baby.

deff don't drink liquor. gingerale, saltine crackers, and any kind of ginger is easy on your stomach and your senses. the ginger is known for relieving nausea. you can get it candied, raw, dried, etc. it worked wonders for me. g'luck, soon it will be all over.  (+ info)

What did you do for extreme nausea and vomiting during pregnancy?

I am about 9 weeks pregnant and miserable! I have constant nausea and can't even keep water down. I had to go to the ER yesterday to be put on an IV because I was so dehydrated. They gave me pills to help with the nausea, but I can't take them- even if I manage to swallow them, I vomit. I feel horrible- I can't eat, drink, or sleep. I am open to any advice. What helped during your pregnancy? Thank you for your help.
----------

Ask your doctor for Zofran in dissolvable tablet form. You don't swallow the pill, it just dissolves on your tongue. Zofran is the best medication out there for nausea and severe hyperemesis (vomiting).

When I felt nauseated, I would take sips of water which had lots of lemon juice in it to make it tart. Just sips - not guzzling. Ginger tea also helps.  (+ info)

whats wrong with a person who have casual nausea and vomiting when he got problems or when he is hurt?

its been almost 1 year now that i notice my husband has a casual nausea and vomiting everytime he is hurt and has deep problem. he will feel heat at the lower back of his head, and painful stomach like ulcer, then he vomits. his head is also painful like it will crack.

usually this occurs after he cried so hard, or when i suppose to break him up, or when i nearly got hospitalized and he has no money.

i want to hear any comments or advice pls.

Anxiety and stress can cause actual physical hurt to the human body. Mind over matter, of sorts. It is my understanding that it is at least in part a learned behavior-that the person suffering can learn to reduce the physical impact, to overcome his learned coping mechanisms that cause him to feel physically ill in response to psychic (mental) trauma.

He isn't mentally ill, but since the behavior causes him physical problems he might benefit from the input of a qualified psychologist to help him to learn alternative ways to cope with stressors in a less harmful manner.  (+ info)

Is it still considered morning sickness if I have nausea but NOT vomiting?

I am thankful that I haven't had any vomiting but I seem to have all day nausea. I can't eat very much at one sitting or I'll get severely nauseated but when I don't eat I get hunger pains. I am not severely nauseated all day, more like just a persistent, mild nausea.

But like I said, it isn't accompanied by vomiting. Is it still considered morning sickness or is there another name for it? I'm 8 weeks pregnant.

Morning sickness. It usually peaks around 8 weeks and then slowly gets better. I'll have my fingers crossed for you!   (+ info)

How can I get rid of the nausea & vomiting that is bothering me?

How can I get rid of the nausea & vomiting that is associated with my migraine headaches that is bothering me ? I've already tried everything so please help me !!!!!
----------

Get fresh ginger root, grate it up and make a tea by pouring boiling water over it and drinking after a few minutes when it is cool enough to drink and has absorbed the anti-emetic qualities from the ginger.

This works really well; my Wife used it to counteract the intense nausea she suffered from Chemotherapy when she had cancer some years ago.

Another technique is acupressure; find a point on the inside of your arm, two finger widths away from the crease at your wrist and in the middle - press on the point with a slightly circling motion of your right index finger and keep it up for about five minutes.

This worked unfailingly for my daughters when they were young whenever they felt sick.  (+ info)

Is there any treament for vomiting and nausea?

I have a sinus infection and have been prescribed Amoxicillin. One of the side effects of the antibiotic have been nausea and vomiting which, I have unfortunately been experiencing. This morning I was up at 2am in the morning throwing up, I feel so icky.
What should I do right now, other than contact my dr in the morning? Is there anything that will help me with stomach?
----------

You can ask your doctor to prescribe you another medication called 'Maxillon.' You would still have to take the amoxicillon but the maxillon should stop nausea and vomiting. You will only have to take it until you have finished the antibiotics but you will have to go back to your doctor because you can't buy maxillon over the counter. Hope this helps.

By the way, don't take mylanta. Mylanta is for heartburn and indigestion!  (+ info)

What foods and beverages are best to give with cancer/chemo related nausea and vomiting?

My father is undergoing chemo for malignant melanoma that has spread to liver/lungs/kidneys. He has constantly nausea and vomits at the drop of a hat. How do I get some nutrition into him? What would help other than prescription meds which he is already on?
----------

I went through this with my dad - it's different for everyone. You have to be ready with whatever sounds good to him at the moment - if he has to wait too long for it, the opportunity may pass and he's nauseous again. It's not easy - on him or on you - sorry there isn't a magic answer, but you're wonderful for being there for him. My thoughts and prayers are with you.  (+ info)
