Post Partum headache and water retention?

I just had a baby on Saturday using natural delivery (no drugs at all). Since arriving back home (today is second day), I have had severe headaches and I am retaining so much water my ankles have disappeared, which is much more severe than during the actual pregnancy. Any ideas? My joints and shoulders and neck are very stiff...

The water retention is common, the best way to get rid of it is to drink a lot of water. Your body will get over this in a few days. If not mention it to the doctor. And headaches can be caused by the stiffness you are talking about and this can be caused by the pressure on the joints from the water retention.  (+ info)

Lumbar puncture headache - any advise?

I had a Lumbar puncture on Wednesday. I had a headache almost immediately, which I have been told is quite normal. I suffer from migraines anyway but this is something else - it is almost blinding. When I lie flat it almost disappears. I have tried paracetamol and co-codamol but nothing remotely helps. I have no idea what to do. The doctor has said if I still have it in a week or so then I'm to go back for something called a blood patch, which should stop it. I don't know if that will even be an option in my case as the reason I had the lumbar puncture was to see if my Lyme disease has entered my spinal fluid. I don't wan't my blood being injected just in case my spinal fluid is clear of the disease.

Also since the LP I have been really thirsty.

Any tips on how to manage this headache would be greatly appreciated.

How long should a headache last after a lumbar puncture?

I had a lumbar puncture and a few other tests done this past monday the 12th. I laid still on my back for about 6 hours after the procedure and then I went home. The headache started at about 8 that night and has not gone away since. The only way to make it go away a little is to lay down and that only works for a while. I have a 2 year old so I can not be on bed rest forever. Is this headache normal and how long will it last??

Spinal tap / lumbar puncture headache???

I had a LP done 2 days ago and have been laying down 95% of the time. I have had a mild headache and I'm taking tylenol. I'm wondering if this is a spinal headache? And if it is do I need to lay down flat or will it get worse? Its not bad but I don't want it to get bad. If I don't lay down is it possible that it could get worse? I don't want to lay down if I don't need to. Thanks
----------

I myself have had several spinal taps in my day, all of which were to check my spinal fluid for blood after a stroke. Each time I had the taps done I had a headache for a couple days while my body regenerated the lost spinal fluid. Drink plenty of water and if the pain doesn't go away in a few days call your doctor. You shouldn't have to lie down any more and if I remember correctly standing made it worse for me, but listen to your body and do what is comfortable. You'll be fine!!

spinal tap / LP / lumbar puncture headache??

I had a spinal tap done 2 weeks ago, after 1 week I think I've developed the spinal headache. I've had the headache for almost a week now and its not getting better. Could it still go away on its own or will I need a blood patch? I want to avoid it if I can, I've beed laying down for about a week now. Is it possible it will resolve on its own? Thank you

You should let your doctor know about this. And next time, they can use a different kind of needle. Standard hypodermic needles are not the best for lumbar puncture.  (+ info)

Spinal tap / lumbar puncture headache..anyone have one before??

Personal experiences please......

I know that the spinal tap headache only happens when sitting or standing and gets better when laying down. What I want to know is what it feels like and where it is.

Is it in the back of the head, front, between the eyes, in the top of the head, in the temples or is it just all over?

Also, is it a stabbing feeling, a sharp pain, throbbing pain or something else?

My last questions are...if you've had a spinal tap headache how long did it take to go away? Did you get a blood patch and if so, how long after the tap did you get the blood patch?

Thank you
Thanks for the replys. I'm going to ask my doctor but I still would like to hear personal stories of spinal headaches and what it felt like for others.

The after affects of a lumbar puncture?

I had a lumbar puncture a week ago and didn't get the common headache or nausea, but I have an increasing painful lower back, it's not constantly sore but if I've been sitting or standing for a little while the pain is extreme when I move again like I'm winded (like when you fall off a horse)! Will this naturally disappear in a few days? Painkillers do not make the blind bit of difference.
----------

Hi I had a LP last year and I had all sorts of problems - I couldnt stand for 2 weeks after due to severe head ache. I also had back pain and ended up in A&E one night. They said nothing was wrong and the day after it was resolved! So I think give it a while longer but if you are concerned, speak with your dr. I was literally in agony and they didnt make anything of it but as we all know, hiccups in any medical procedure can happen.

Hope this helps in some way. Take care & I hope ur results came back ok XXX  (+ info)

Headache!!?

I was taking Centrum One a Day vitamins and then I stopped taking them because I would get really bad headaches afterwards. I tried to start taking my vitamins again after not taking them for awhile, thinking maybe it was just a phase... but I got another headache and these headaches are so bad that I feel nauseous. Is there something in vitamins that could possibly induce headaches? Also, what the best home remedy for headaches?

Many things can cause HA(headaches) .
being dehydrated, lack of food, stress, a pinch nerve.
I found that nothing helped me.
I had severe HA and backaches for 2years. Seeing a chiropractor 2-3times a wk, taking too much Tylenol etc. Everything was a temporary fix. The pain would go away and then come back in a couple of hours
Then a friend told me about Himalayan Goji Juice. Drinking 4oz of juice a day my HA/backaches were gone in 2mos . I am firm believer in the Himalayan Goji Juice for any kind of pain!!!

headache???

i got a headache and my eyes are burning i also feel really dizzy and my ears hurt a bit sometimes
what type of headache is this
----------

This is not a migrain headache my friend i suffer from the same affliction ..this is an allergy and what is happening is your sinus cavety is swollen wich puts pressure on the eyes that's where you are getting the burning eyes and also the pressure in your head is going to your ears wich will make you feel dizzy for sure because a persons balance is adjusted by liquid in the ears so if there is pressure there it will affect your balance wich in turn will make you dizzy..take an antihistamine and make an appointment with you family doctor to have an allergy test done so they can pinpoint the problem so you can start treating the allergy properly  (+ info)
