How did I get pleurisy?

About 3 weeks ago, I had a bad case of flu and was prescribed antibotics to rid the infection. For the past 4 days I have had severe stabbing pains in my left side and today I saw my doc. He told me after I had an X -Ray that I have pleurisy!

Has anybody else had this, and if so - any tips to relieve this pain?

Thanks a heap.

I've had It a couple of times, just try to relax and try a humidifier. There is really nothing you can do but wait. Did the doc explain to you that the pain is a result of an air bubble that dried a tiny portion of your internal chest cavity? That little dry spot is causing all the pain. The pain goes away like a miricle when that spot gets lubed up again. Hang in there, you'll wake up and it will be gone soon.  (+ info)

can you die from Pleurisy? if i dont take my medication will it get worse?

Pleurisy is a lung virus it makes you hurt when you breath.
----------

You need to take your medication. Pleurisy is the inflammation of your pleura which is caused by irritation...this can result from an underlying problem. Failure to take your medication will make your condition worse. You need to take the necessary steps to take control of your health, by reading up on the condition and finding ways that you can prevent further complications. Good Luck.  (+ info)

What are the after effects of pleurisy?

I had Bronchitis and went untreated for two weeks and was over it...so I thought. The coughing didn't stop and was constant. I then developed a sharp pain in my right side, and went to the doctor. He said I have bronchiolitis, a mild case of pleurisy, and pulled muscles (from coughing). The medication helped tremendously, but today when i was coughing there was a loud pop in my lung and now the pain is back and stronger...I don't know what it is??

What membranes are involved in the conditon pleurisy?

Pleuritis refers to an inflammation of the membranes that surround the lung (known as pleura). There are 2 membranes/pleura. The lungs are surrounded by a thin, film-like membrane called the visceral pleura. The chest wall is lined with a second membrane called the parietal pleura. The two membranes remain in contact with one another, being separated only by a thin layer of fluid.   (+ info)
