How safe is to use Mortein Surface Spay or other pest control while one has a 1 year old baby?
Hi everyone,
I have too much spiders and cockroaches at home. I haven't found a child friendly pest control in the market. I am not worried about the cockroaches but definitely spiders. I am really looking forward to get some professional advice on this matter.
Please advice me, is Mortein safe to use while one has baby at home or any other brands which I might not know of.
Thank you.

unfortunately, none of these chemicals like mortein are safe. they are powerful insecticides and as you know, 1 year olds are all over the place/floor all the time. if you spray the chemical on the kitchen floor, for example, you will probably walk on it and then track it into other rooms. also, these chemicals come in spray form, and the mist goes everywhere even if you just spray a little in one area.
anyway, i would stay away from insecticides. you could try things like sticky traps. sometimes you can even find the sticky glue for this and apply it to cardboard pieces and make the little insect traps yourself. another thing that worked moderately well for me was to mix water, tabasco sauce, and chili powder in a spray bottle and spray this in places where you see the insects. they dont like the smell and burning sensation, but it isnt something harmful to babies.
the bottom line is you have to just clean everyting really well, try as seal off any cracks in floors and windows where insects can come in, search for nests and disturb them with that chili spray, and use mosquito nets at night (they keep spiders and roaches out as well as mosquitos)...
not the best thing to hear i know, but its better than exposing the child to insecticides... (

I want to know if the electronic pest control is harmful to babies?
I am having a baby this month and we have a problem with mice.
I heard about the electronic pest control but I am wondering if it is safe to have in my house when I bring the baby home?
----------
Is that the silent noise that is supposed to hurt the ears of a mouse? If it is it didn't work at all for me! The good ole mouse trap with peanut butter worked the best for us. Well anyway we had that when we had our baby and it was fine with him. Although we returned it b/c it didn't work. Make sure you try to keep your floors clean when your baby starts to crawl and your bottles safe in a cabinet so mice can not run across them. Mice carry disease that could harm your baby. We moved! What is an effective natural pest remedy?
I currently have an infestation of what I believe are fruit flys in my kitchen, and they have also migrated to my bathroom. I don't have any leaks and I think the recent heavy rains, which brought out all kinds of unusual insects, here in the San Francisco Bay Area, has something to do with it.
I am currently using apple cider vinegar in styrofoam cups to attract and drown them. But it's not effective enough. Does anyone in the community have any other suggestions as to how I could get rid of them using a natural method?
----------
Pour bleach down all of your drains (that's where they hatch) keep them closed off if possible, and DON"T leave anything out that they are attracted to... (

Riteway Pest Control notices an increase in Bed bug work. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Thanks for responding Linda, unfortunately a Bed bug infestation has nothing to do with sanitation. Bed bugs are being brought in by the hotels guests.
Bed bugs can survive on only one thing...Blood! Adult Bed bugs can live up to a year without their food source.
----------
I live in Florida where tourism is very important. We've had several outbreaks of bedbugs in 4 and 5 star hotels and resorts. This is not good for tourism.
I personally think the reason for this is because businesses are cutting back on labor and operating expenses. As a result, the rooms aren't being serviced (cleaned and inspected) as they should be.
I have no plans to stay at any hotels soon and warn people to take precautions if they do. (

What do vegetarians do about pest control?
Just curious...
If you think I'm being stupid, I'm not, I'm getting a job as an exterminator so I thought of this.
----------
If they invade my place, eat my food, or try to bite me I kill them. I do everything possible to keep them out and I'm against using glue traps. (

Name a time when you stepped on a pest that you would have normally let go outside?
but decided to kill it so it wouldnt bite your child. What kind of pest was it?
----------
I've never captured a bug and released it outside. If I see it, I stomp on it. That's about all I can say on the matter. (

What is a good, kid-safe method of pest control?
We're starting to get spiders in our house, and it's driving me crazy. I used to have a company come and spray, but I hate the thought of all of those pesticides. Anyone have any ideas on safe, non-toxic methods of treating for pests?
----------
Get a package of pipe or chewing tobacco, soak it in a gallon of boiling water until it cools. Strain the liquid into a clean container. Put a cup of tobacco juice and 1/2 cup lemon dish soap into a hose-end sprayer and spray. I did this at our house two years ago and have been practically spider free since. Chestnuts Proved Effective: Put chestnuts around the exterior walls of every room in the house as well as on all the windowsills.

Vegans & Vegetarians what are your thoughts on insecticides and pest control?
Are insects still classified as animals? What about Possums and such, they're still animals do you believe we have the right to eliminate 'pests'?
Thanks in advance!
----------
Being a vegan means you do what you can and all you can to minimise your contribution to animal suffering and exploitation; it doesn't mean you sacrifice your own health or safety - allowing insects and rodents that spread disease and are a danger to endanger your health and safety and that of your family, particularly your children, is not vegan it is irresponsible and stupid.
Though a dilemma, because you don't want to harm life, it is essential to rid your house of rodents and other pests if you have an infestation.
Unfortunately mice don't come into the house singly - they move in en masse and breed very quickly - so catching them singly and putting them outside isn't really a practical option.
If taken outside they will soon find their way back in anyway.
There is no point in being sentimental about mice and rats - they are a huge health hazard and a danger when in your home. A danger because they need to gnaw constantly and will present a very real fire risk by gnawing on electric cables. A health risk because they spread disease - they are there for your food and will contaminate that; mice urinate and defecate constantly and that will be spread around wherever they go. Each female mouse can have 5 - 10 litters per year of up to 13 young each time; each of the new born mice will be able to breed at about 7 weeks. Do the maths and see how quickly the population will increase – you’ll never catch them all.
A better option is to try and prevent pests coming in. You can get a plug-in device that emits a noise inaudible to humans but intolerable to rodents and to other pests like cockroaches; make sure your kitchen is squeaky clean, with no food scraps or crumbs to tempt them in; and try to block up any holes or gaps where rodents might get in - bearing in mind that if you can get a ball point pen into a hole, a mouse can get through it. They tend to stay away if you have a cat, too.
If having tried all the above you still get an infestation you have a responsibility to deal with it properly. Your health and safety and that of your family comes first.
I'm vegan and I would call in the exterminators if precautions failed - just as I would defend myself against any creature - animal or human - that was threatening my health, safety or life
I have no idea what danger or problems possums pose as I live in the UK, so can't comment on that (
