Ways to subside pain caused by ovarian cysts?

What are some ways to subside the pain caused by two large ovarian cysts while waiting for surgery? My surgery is on March 30th, so I have a long way to go. I have been alternating between Advil and Tylenol and also using hot compresses.
----------

Have you considered natural methods to help your body shrink them naturally? It helps a lot people and is definitely worth a shot while you wait.

Hope everthing goes well.  (+ info)

I recently had surgery to have a cyst removed that grew out of my left ovary. It was huge, 20 cm that filled my adomen, making it huge and painful. I am wondering how often people have more problematic cysts after one is removed? Also what is a good way to prevent another one from growing?

Is it possible to conceive with ovarian cysts and no medication?

I'm asking this question here because you ladies are all prego! Congrats, anyway I have really bad cysts and they have seem to be alot worse after I had my son. This month I was having intense pain and I thought a cyst had burst. My doctor told me he wants to monitor me to see if I'm ovulating but he thinks I'm going to need an extra push and go on meds to ttc. Anyone conceive without the use of meds and having cysts? Thanks!
----------

Yes! It took 10 months of trying, but I am now pregnant (almost 12 weeks now). I have PCOS, but don't take anything for it. I always said that if it took over a year and we hadn't conceived I would go on meds, but I didn't want to.

So in answer to your question, yes, it does happen, it happened to me!  (+ info)

How do I get rid of Ovarian cysts?

I have ovarian cysts and they are very painful especially when I work out. I had them in the past and was given birth control pills by my doctor. The pills helped, but I gained weight in the process. Does anyone knows how to get rid of them, non-surgically? Anybody has ever had cysts before? Serious answers are welcome!!
----------

I have had ovarian cysts all through my life. they are very painful i know how you feel. i hate to say it but there is no non surgical way to get rid of them other than birth Control. I know it sucks, maybe try talking to your doctor and try a different kind of birth control and see if that doesnt make you gain weight.  (+ info)

Can ovarian cysts make birth control less effective?

I have implannon and was wondering if I should be useing a backup method. I couldn't seem to find anything on the subject except that BC pills sometimes help alleviate the cysts, but nothing about effectiveness.
----------

No.
Cysts don't effect birth control in any way.  (+ info)

What to expect during ovarian cysts?

I went to the doctor a few weeks ago and they said I have two ovarian cysts. My period is two weeks late and now I think my period is here. How late can your period be delayed by cysts?
----------

You could have what is called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or PCOS.

This is a condition that is caused by hormonal imbalances that create cysts but can also cause erratic periods or even stop them completely.

Some women also just get cysts from time to time due to temporary hormonal imbalances too which is less serious but could cause problems.

There is no exact answer I think to your question i am sorry.

Does having ovarian cysts decrease the chance of getting pregnant?

I had an ovarian cyst rupture in April and the doctor said i still have one. Man does it hurt when those thing's rupture. Never been in so much pain. Anyway do they decrease the chances of pregnancy?
----------

I'm sorry that this has happened to you and I hope that you are feeling much better by now.

For the majority of women, the presence of ovarian cysts has no impact on their ability to conceive.

Typically, ovarian cysts do not interfere with ovulation or conception.

You will need to consult with your gynecologist for an individual evaluation, but I would say that NO - the cysts will NOT decrease your chance of pregnancy.

If you are not wanting to conceive yet, then you should be using some form of birth control.

Good Luck! =)  (+ info)

Can an 18 year old female get pregnant even thought she has a small ovarian cysts?

My 18 year old friend has a small ovarian cysts on her left overy and she has been trying to get pregnant for the past 3 months but she doesn't seem to get pregnant.

She feels like she cant have kids so shes just wondering if the cysts has anything to do with her not getting pregnant...

P.S. she wants to start her family at a young age...
----------

Cysts do not normally stop an ovary producing healthy eggs, and the other ovary will produce eggs anyway, so assuming her partner is fertile she should be able to get pregnant.  (+ info)

Do ovarian cysts usually need to be surgically removed?

I was told today after getting MRI results that I need to see an oncologist. I always thought that most ovarian cysts and fibroids are not cancer. I have no symptoms, no pain, no bleeding.
Do you think I'll have to have that godd-awful test called a 'Hysterosonography?'
the report mentioned that I should go for a transvaginal sonogram for more information.
----------

Typically, ovarian cysts are functional (not disease or cancer related) and occur as a normal process of ovulation. During the days before ovulation, a follicle grows. But at the time of expected ovulation, the follicle fails to break open and release an egg, as it is supposed to. Instead, the fluid within the follicle remains and forms a cyst.

Functional, or physiological, ovarian cysts usually disappear within 8-12 weeks without treatment. They are relatively common, and are more common during a woman's childbearing years (puberty to menopause). Ovarian cysts are rare after menopause.

Functional ovarian cysts are not the same as ovarian tumors (including ovarian cancer) or cysts due to hormone-related conditions such as polycystic ovarian disease. Some non-functional ovarian cysts must be treated to go away.

An ovarian cyst can cause pain if it pushes on nearby structures, ruptures or bleeds. Pain may also occur if the cyst is twisted or causes twisting (torsion) of the fallopian tube.

Symptoms of ovarian cysts can include:

* Pelvic pain - constant, dull aching
* Pain with intercourse or pelvic pain during movement
* Pain during bowel movements
* Pelvic pain shortly after beginning or ending a menstrual period
* Abnormal uterine bleeding (change from normal menstrual pattern)
* Longer than usual menstrual cycle
* Shorter than usual menstrual cycle
* Absent menstruation
* Irregular menstruation
* Abdominal bloating or swelling

Often no symptoms are noted and ovarian cysts are found only be routine examinations. Usually birth control pills may be prescribed to help establish normal cycles and decrease the development of functional ovarian cysts.

Simple ovarian cysts that are larger than 5-10 centimetres and complex ovarian cysts that persist should and will usually be surgically removed via laparoscopy (minimal invasive surgery).

I would recommend that you discuss all the details such as the type of cyst, size of cyst etc with your doctor/gyno and ask them to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

I have suffered from many bilateral ovarian cysts over the past 10 years and have had to have surgery 2 times to the cysts removed (it wasn't anything too serious).

I hope this helps to answer your question. Good luck :)  (+ info)
