How fast to ovarian cysts grow?

I had a scan in November that showed a small ovarian cyst, and one a week ago that showed a 13cm accross mass of goodness knows what. Do cysts grow that quickly? Will they just whip me in and remove it all? I have an appointment with the consultant tomorrow. Let's just not say the 'C' word shall we? ;)
----------

You don't state your age but "C" of the ovaries would be quite rare in a women below the age of 50. A cysts is basically a sac of fluid, the vast majority of cysts are quite benign. There are different types of cysts, you are more likely to have a Dermoid cyst which can grow up to 15cm. These are quite common in younger women.

Cysts can sometimes grow, they will likely want to do more tests and as it's quite large they will want to remove it. Try not to worry. It will likely be a non "C" cyst.  (+ info)

What are the chances of getting pregnant with ovarian cysts while also being on birth control?

The birth control is to sustain the cysts, but I was wondering how safe it actually is to use the birth control to sustain the cysts and still be able to work effectively. My girlfriend occasionally gets extremely bad pains from her ovarian cysts, and she just recently got some of the worst pains about 4 or 5 days after the most recent time we've had sex and she believes that her stomach is a bit swollen along with the pains. Can the cysts cause swelling and are the chances of getting pregnant very high considering the situation? Thanks.
Also, will the cysts ever cause any kind of stomach swelling, or at least swelling in the area of the stomach? Mainly belly button and below.
She actually just went to get an ultrasound today and the ultrasound was full of orange dots all around the ovaries. The doctor said that this was bloodflow. What kind of bloodflow is that? Is that normal, or did the cysts maybe break or something like that?

Cysts can rupture and cause excruciating pain. I have them and endometreosis and this is not abnormal. They can make you very sick to your stomach b/c of the "poison" inside the cyst.  (+ info)

Can you feel ovarian cysts on the exterior?

I get ovarian cysts because I have PCOS. For the last month, I have felt hard "lumps" on my left and right bottom abdomen. I can only feel them if I press down. I was wondering if you could feel cysts on your ovaries if they were big enough. Or if you know what these "lumps" could be. I cannot move them around or anything and when I push down on them, they hurt.
----------

Yes you can feel them. You will probably feel a little more round in the area and yes they hurt. actually, i had to get my ovary removed last july because i had ovarian torsion. the cyst was so big it flipped my ovary over and it swelled. i had to get it removed lapriscopicly. but yes i felt mine too. you should probably go get it checked and get an ultrasound and make sure they dont increase in size.  (+ info)

Ruptured Ovarian Cysts- What can i do to help prevent them?

I have suffered from 2 ruptured ovarian cysts lately, and I need to know how to prevent them from keep on happening. I have been to the OBGYN and she performed a laparoscopy on me and said there is nothing wrong with my reproductive system. Can anyone help?
----------

First, you need to prevent cysts in the first place. I had this problem. Cysts for from ovulation. Two types of functional cysts happen - the follicular cyst - when the egg comes out of the ovary this cyst forms and then will rupture, releasing the egg - if it doesn't the cyst will continue to grow. Second, a corpus luteum cyst forms after ovulation sometimes taking the place of where the egg came from. If you don't ovulate, you won't get these cysts. Hormonal birth control prevents ovulation. Talk to your GYN. The GYN is correct, getting these types of cysts are normal, and are not indicative of any reproductive problems.  (+ info)

Has anyone every used Mary Parker's information to get rid of ovarian cysts?

I came across a site for Mary Parker on ovarian cysts. She advocates holistic treatment and detox to get rid of ovarian cysts. Her information makes great sense, but I'm of course skeptical. Has anyone used her method, and what were the results? How carefully did you follow it?
----------

i think a holistic approach should be the use of both western and eastern medications...depending on the size of the cyst sometimes it might require medical assistance, you can ask a fertility specialist online for free and find others going through similar situations, try fertilityties.com
good luck!!  (+ info)

Could late periods be a sign of ovarian cysts?

My period has always been very regular, however for the past 6 months or so, it will be on time one month and late the next month. I've noticed a pattern of being late every other month. I used to get scared and think I was pregnant but now I'm thinking it may be something else like ovarian cysts since my mom has had them. Could late periods be a sign of ovarian cysts?
----------

Irregular periods are... Late periods also can be a sign. But you need to get examine by a doctor (may be ultrasound) in order to know this for sure.

According to my prof and the text book we use here at University of Calgary (Canada), symptoms as follows:

1. Do you have a severe, sudden, and sharp pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen?
2. Do you get pains around your abdomen, during or shortly after beginning or end of menstrual period?
3. Do you have irregular periods all the time? (check for 3-4 months)
4. Have you noticed a sudden weight gain?
5. Is it difficult to pee (urination)?
6. Do you bleed abnormally close to period or after the period?
7. Breasts feel heavy or seems to be changing in tenderness fast?
8. Do you have to shave your legs and other parts of the body where you have hair more often than you used to?

If yes... then I am about 98% sure you have a ovarian cyst. But please see a doctor to get a good grip on what's really going on.
All the best!  (+ info)
