is there a quick cure for otitis media with effusion?

I am suffering from otitis media with effusion (OME) for almost a month now. I am desperate to find a cure. Help me please

You don't state whether you have been prescribed anything by a doctor for your condition.

If you have been diagnosed properly, as I will assume you have, since you have the medical terminology of your condition, then you should have been prescribed antibiotics and an antihystamine by the doctor.

You need to dry up the fluids in your ear, and antihystamines will do that. Also, there is an infection there that needs to be treated with antibiotics.

I have had chronic ear infections for 20 years. I am very careful about getting water in my ears, and I can avoid getting ear infections by staying on an OTC medication that helps dry up my sinus passages.

I am recently recovered from acute bronchitis and sinusitis, and was lucky enough to avoid the expected ear infections.

See a doctor immediately. Hearing loss can happen if prolonged conditions are not treated.  (+ info)

I have otitis media with facial palsy! Has anyone ever recovered from this? How long does this take to heal?

Are you talking about Bells palsy?
I had that, and it took a year to get almost 100% better.
I think it's different for everyone though.

The left side of my face was weak, I couldn't eat or drink without making a mess, it was really embarassing.

I hope it never comes back :(  (+ info)

isn't it usually children who get either acute otitis media or chronic otitis media?

also, what are the symptoms of both acute otitis media and chronic otitis media?

Ear drainage – if you see blood or pus draining out of the ear, then it is probably an infection with a ruptured eardrum. DON'T WORRY! These almost always heal just fine, and once the eardrum ruptures the pain subsides.   (+ info)

what effect does an elevated temperature have on other vital signs in otitis media?

Usually when you have a high temperature, your heart rate is also higher, and so is your respiratory rate, because your body has to work harder. And becuase you are uncomfortable, your blood pressure can get pretty high, too.  (+ info)

Can otitis media cause meningitis?

I have been diagnosed with Otitis Media (ear infection) when i was young, and the Ear specialist doctor (EENT), once told me that it could damage my ear drum that can lead to Meningitis. Can Anyone shed light on this? Searching the internet, make me feel i already have the symtoms of meningitis. Thanks in advance for your replies.
----------

Complications from otitis media is the most common way to get Meningitis, but it happens while you have the infection. if it's been a few years then there is almost no chance of getting it,  (+ info)

Why would you get BILATERAL conductive hearing loss with chronic otitis media (middle ear infection)?

I figured if it affects only ONE middle ear it would cause UNILATERAL hearing loss.

i have otitis media with effusion. who do i get rid of it?

my left ear feels clogged and muffled. any cures?
----------

Otitis media with effusion (OME) usually goes away on its own but it can take months! Since it usually resolves on its own, doctors don't perform a myringotomy with tubes unless a hearing test (after three months of having OME) shows a hearing loss.

Please note, as long as you have the fluid in your ear, your hearing will be mufffled. I iknow it is annoying but I'm sorry to say that there really isn't anything you can do about it.  (+ info)

is it safe to give N-acetylcysteine to a 4 years old with recurrent otitis media?

what's the dose?
----------

N- acetylcysteine is an very strong anti-viral. I am not a doctor but I would imagine it can't be harmful in small doses. Try a 500mg capsule just once a day, or less. It is basically just a precursor to glutathione. So if he gets too much I imagine he will just poop a lot. I would also recommend trying the probiotic route. That is another strong immune booster. Anything but antibiotics has been my experience.

However, I do want to encourage you to check with a holistic practitioner in your area. They will know of more possible dangers and side effects that I may not be aware of.  (+ info)
