Serious Otitis media in layman's terms what can I do about this? I see the Ear Specialist on April 28?

yes, I feel like my ear has the flu or something.
----------

Otitis media is a fancy term for "middle ear infection". You will need a doc to give you some antibiotics. It is important that you see the specialist and let them monitor it closely - meaning treat it and recheck it - neglecting or ignoring it could damage your ear permanently. When they give you an antibiotic, take it just as they say, the full course. If they want you to wash your ear with medication, do that just as they say too. You have to work to get rid of this, so it doesn't come back.

Meanwhile, I imagine you are pretty miserable. I would take some ibuprofen (which is good for inflammation), like Advil, Motrin, something like that. That will help until the 28th. Drink plenty of liquids when you take ibuprofen - it's hard on your liver and kidneys, and your body needs to flush it.  (+ info)

Adult with Otitis Media---how long until it clears up?

My husband has otitis media, which is basically a middle ear infection. He realized he had it Monday morning, and its Thursday and he says he still can't hear in his left ear, and that it is not draining. He went to the doctor today and recieved an antibiotic shot along with a second round of painkillers and antibiotics....
How long does it usually take for something like this to clear up?

what are some ways to get rid of fluid behind eardrum (otitis media)?

I have had antibiotics and tryed swimmers ear but my ear is still feeling like it needs to pop and some hearing loss for about 5 months
----------

have you gone to an ENT? you might have to get tubes in your ear drum as a way to clear the fluid. otitis media and swimmer ear are two different things and both are treated differently... you may need to clarify a little bit more. what type of fluid do you have thin watery fluid or thick pussy fluid? all of these things can affect how you will be treated by a doctor. usually thin watery fluid will clear up on its own, but thick fluid is serious business. as for your eustation tubes... if they aren't opening or closeing properlly you will need to see a doctor. steroid shots and other medications can help with that.

on a different note sometimes chiropractors can help with otitis media if you like alternative forms of medicine.  (+ info)

Does anyone have experience with the EarPopper for Middle ear fluid (Otitis Media with effusion)?

Here is where I found the product: http://www.earpopper.com. It is FDA approved, and there are claims that it is 85% effective. It is considerably safer than tubes from what I can tell.

My question is if anyone out there has used this product successfully or unsuccessfully or another product using the Politzer method.

It is available by prescription only.

I have a friend whose kids had good luck with Earpopper. I would give it a try.  (+ info)
