I've lost a lot of sight in one eye because of optic neuritis, now I'm having some trouble with depth percepti

I'm having a little trouble with depth perception, like I can't get the toothpaste on my toothbrush straight, and it takes me several tries to get a cap on a pen, and typing is a little awkward. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't seem to notice this with things further away. Any advice? Will I get used to this?
I'm actually only looking for people who have personally experienced this.
But thank you milk for saying I will adjust.

I didn't have it for the same reason but I did have the same symptoms. It will take some time but you will gradually adapt to this & compensate for it but it will get better.  (+ info)

what is the best way for curing an optic neuritis?????

As the answer above it depends on the cause........And I don't think there is a complete cure for Optic Neuritis but some vitamins "B1,B6,B12" and Folic Acid may be useful. The best cure is treatment of the original cause..If diabetes diet control beside medical control to blood glucose level will enhance the case..  (+ info)

I have optic neuritis?

Alright so this last Monday my eye doc said I've got optic neuritis. He's recommended I go to Primary Children's Hospital in Utah. He thinks I might have Multiple Sclerosis. However optic neuritis is my only symptom. I have Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension which is where my CSF pressure is too high. Do you think that could be it and not MS? Cause I'm not too happy about the possibility of having MS.
----------

Optic neuritis does not necessarily mean you have MS. Also, I'm guessing because you were recommended to go to Children's Hospital, you're under 20. It's very unlikely that you have developed MS under 20. It's possible, but not likely.

Your IIH likely is causing your eye issues. You'd need an MRI and a battery of other tests to be sure, but it's not likely to be MS. Even if it is ON, it's only MS in half the cases.  (+ info)

Severe optic neuritis without diagnosis.?

My brother has severe optic neuritis and all of the tests are negative.
Optic Neuritis usually occcurs with MS, Lupus or other auto-immune diseases.
Does anyone have any info on this subjest?
----------

Optic neuritis IS a diagnosis in itself. Just because someone has ON doesn't mean that they have an immunologic disease. About 50% of people with ON never get diagnosed with any other disease. Google optic neuritis for yourself. There are at least a 100,000 interent sites concerning optic neuritis.  (+ info)

Has anyone here ever been diagnosed with Optic Neuritis?

but did not have Multiple Sclerosis? Did you develop MS later on? If there was a different cause for your ON, did you ever find out what it was?
Thank you for the links gangadharan_nair.

I am familiar w/ this condition, I was diagnosed with it in June 2005 and my brain MRI came back normal so I'm just hoping there are others out there that have experienced this and can share their stories.
----------

In less than half the cases of ON and abnormal brain scans, there actually is absolutely no cause, and it simply resolves itself within weeks to months. It's about 55% of cases in which ON is actually MS (yeah, I'm one of the 55%). Remember too, that only 3% of people who have ON and normal scans will have another MS symptom in the following 2 years.

Not a great answer to be sure, but I'm assuming you've heard of the Optic Neuritis Treatment Trials. Only 7.5% of patients who had ON and normal brain scans who were treated with IV steroids went on to develop MS, as opposed to 16% who were treated with oral steroids or placebo. Actually, oral steroids alone produced more ON symptoms than the placebo.

As a result of the Optic Neuritis Treatment Trials, ophthalmologists now treat patients with optic neuritis with either IV, followed by oral, steroids, or no treatment at all. Specifically, patients are not treated with oral steroids alone. For those patients who are treated, the regimen is typically 3 days of IV steroids followed by 10 to 14 days of oral steroids.

Optic Neuritis and vision loss?

Just hoping someone out there can help. I'm 33yo male suffering from a form a optic neuritis. 3 months ago i started to develop a ghost like effect in my vision on my right eye. after a week it moved to the left eye and became worse. After 3 months i still have significant vision loss in my left eye. I have numerous blood test (Sarcoid/Wegner's included) and MRI scans (Head, chest and nasal). Have had Ultra sound for calcium build up on optic nerve. Everything came back +ve
I am not sure of the terms but i know my ACE levels were high (71?) and after 10days of 80mg prednisolone steroids - if anything my vision is worse. Lebers results not back yet either?
At the moment no one can identify whats the cause. Other than ghost effects impairing vision i have no other symptoms.

Optic Neuritis w/ eye discomfort?

Does anyone have any idea what this is?

A week ago, I woke up to a bit of pain in my left eye--It was kind of throbbing/hurting, and I went checked in the mirror for eyelashes/dust/fluff in it and didn't find anything. I chalked it off as a headache, or pink eye in the works, but over the following week, the pain turned into a steady discomfort behind/around my eye and into my cheekbone.

I scheduled an appt with the eye doctor on Tuesday, and was told I have a large area of blindness in the affected eye, and I'm also percieving colors differently due to swelling on the optic nerve. I'm scheduled for an MRI tomorrow in the evening...The eye doctor also said I have optic neuritis and the MRI would determine if I need to see a neurologist as well.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I talked with my mom about it and she's saying I might have MS--I'm only twenty and have finally moved into a part of my life where I'm having fun and suceeding academically/socially after a troubled childhood...

My eye's still hurting me now, especially during strenous reading (ie: tests) and I've called a couple of my profs before class to let them know about the situation and to request make up exams/materials for the two classes I've missed so far. Is there anything I can do to relieve the pain/ect and not mess with the MRI I'm having tomorrow?

I've also had a few people around me comment that my gait has changed, and I'm feeling a really slight weakness in my hands/legs...I can't tell if it's because I'm being paranoid about this, or I'm finally paying attention to what's going on...Up until the eye problems, I've felt totally fine...

Any advice would be much appreciated..
