How do I heal nerve damage under my arms from wrong positioning of crutches?

When I got crutches on Saturday, my doctor positioned them too high. Since using them, I've got some red/orange marks which look like bruises that are very painful to touch. I looked around the net and it seems like this is nerve damage. How do I make these marks (and pain) go away?

Thanks.

Put padding or readjust your crutches. Getting rid of the problem will help your nerves heal back. Just give it some time.  (+ info)

What different types of heart diseases do they have?

I'm 23 & I saw a heart doctor yesterday, & so far, he told me that it doesn't look like I have heart disease from the EKG & ultrasound, but he has to run a stress test on a treadmill to see how I handle it. I get chest pains very easily simply just from walking the 1st 2 minutes. I know I'm overweight & I'm trying to lose it. But how can I if every time I try to exercise, I get chest pains? My Dr. said I'm too young for heart disease, & my PCP told me my cholesterol is a little high but not enough to be put on medication.

What kinds of heart diseases do they have? I hope I don't have it, & I'm trying to do my best to prevent it.

What diseases that can be transmitted from animals to human and vice versa?

Tell me what diseases do you know that came from animals and transmitted to us. And also what ways we can prevent it.
----------

There are hundreds, way too many to list here! You are referring to zoonoses, the term for a disease that can be passed from animals to humans and vice versa. Zoonoses can be parasitical, fungal, bacterial, viral, and just plain "other". They can be transmitted by cows, cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, and even fish.

Read about common zoonoses at
http://www.who.int/zoonoses/en/
http://www.anapsid.org/chomeltables.html (about pets!)

If you have access to a library, this book http://www.amazon.ca/Zoonoses-Communicable-Diseases-Common-Animal/dp/927511580X is a good source for your Question.

If you have a particular pet you are concerned about, you may want to search [pet] zoonoses.  (+ info)

How do you know when nerve is dead in tooth after bike accident?

Daughter (10 years old) fell off bike and bashed front teeth. One tooth bled slightly at gum and very slightly loose. Went to dentist who said the nerve was dead and she'd lost the tooth BUT she said this before having done x-ray or testing with 'cold-test'. She just made her diagnosis by fairly casual look. Do you think we need a second opinion ?
----------

I would get a second opinion. I thought they couldn't tell if the nerve was dead without the cold test.   (+ info)

What are some symptoms if sciatic nerve injuries?

For a couple years I've had a sharp pain in my lower back/ butt cheek. It has gotten to the point I cant do simple things like get out of bed and climb in and out of my car, even sneezing is painful. Went to ER 2years ago mistaking it for kidney stones, x ray found nothing. Does this sound like it could be a result of sciatic nerve damage?
----------

even sciatica should be diagnosed;; again, sciatica is a symptom, NOT a diagnosis;; IF it is sciatica, you need to find out what is causing it;; for now try a flexible cold pack on your low back for 15-20 minutes; & see if it helps, try for a few days;; if this does not help, try the cold pack on your hip;; sleep with pillows between your knees, or 2 pillows below the top leg if you sleep scissored;; sciatica really involves the LUMBAR region & you may get "partial radiating pains" (like just to your glut);; or you may get pain in your glut & thigh & not the low back,, some people state it skips & runs;; you are better off finding the cause than rushing with meds & shots to mask the symptoms;; but if I were you, I would get the back xrayed + the hip;; if nothing, then get the back MRI'd & start from there... good luck!!  (+ info)

What happens if you hit a nerve while getting your lip pierced?

I heard that if a nerve gets hit, the side of your face you got your lip pierced on, could possibly become paralyzed.
Is this true?
& what else is could happen?
----------

There's plently of crazy piercing rumors. I heard if you get your tongue pierced wrong you lose your sense of smell and taste.

Yes, nerve damage can cause paralysis, but it's not permenant. Nerves grow back if they're not in your back.

You could also get infections and illnesses if the tools aren't clean. Never try to pierce anything yourself and make sure your piercer uses gloves, washes her hands, uses clean tools, etc. Check out the shop and work area to see if it looks clean and professional. Even check out their portfolio to see how expirienced they are. A good, reliable piercer should charge more than $30 for a piercing.  (+ info)

What are the solutions to a pinched nerve?

I have a pinched nerve and was wondering what the various solutions/cures are.
----------

The first treatments that is tried is always the conservative/noninvasive ones. It all depends on where the nerve is and what is causing the problem.
1) Resting the area, is frequently the first treatment.
2) Anti-inflammatory meds, like Ibuprofen, are often used for pain to try to reduce any inflammation that may be aggravating the nerve.
3) Believe it or not, Physical therapy is order to strengthen the muscles around the area affected which may help take the pressure off the nerve.
4) If all else fails, then sometimes surgery becomes an option of last resort depending on the area.  (+ info)

What stretches can I do to stretch out my sciatica nerve in the morning?

Every morning when I wake up I can hardly walk because of my sciatica nerve. It takes me about 2-3 hours to be able to actually stand up straight in the morning after I wake up. There has to be something I can do in order to excersise this nerve. Any tips or advice would be helpful thank you very much!
----------

I understand your pain because I have had sciatica for 14 years from a back injury that caused permanent nerve damage. Here is a website that tells you what stretches can help and even shows pictures:

http://www.moore-chiropractic.com/sciatica-stretches.html

You should also try to walk as much as possible because it really does help with the pain. Try to avoid hills and stairs as they will make the pain worse.

Some other options include chiropractic care (generally only good for short term relief), steroid injections (did not help me), physical therapy and pain management. I also took a drug called Trileptal for many, many years. It is actually an anti-seizure med but it is known to help with chronic nerve pain. Depending on the cause of your sciatica, you may be able to try that as well. I loved how it helped me and only stopped taking it because I want to begin trying to have a family in the near future and it is known to cause some types of birth defects.

Best wishes and I hope you feel better soon.  (+ info)
