Is There a Link Between Inflammation and Growth of Cancer?

I believe that inflammation causes all kinds of trouble in our bodies, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if sometimes it may be a precursor to cancer?
----------

Long term inflammation can cause cellular change that increases the chance of cancer.
I stress that it is only chronic inflammation that is really associated with this. Inflammation is a natural response to infection and foreign material and is an important process in maintaining health.  (+ info)

How does inflammation help cure/relieve infection?

Inflammation is redness, heat, and swelling around an injury or wound. How does this help an infection heal?
----------

I think ,Danny has to correct her answer. Inflammation results from various sources but not only from the infection. Any constant exposure to a chemical ,radiation and an irritation all can trigger the process of an inflammation.
Infection can trigger an inflammation process by which our body try to take control over the overwhelming effect of the infection. Inflammation itself brings few nasty effect to the body.
Fever(increasing temperature) occurs as a natural phenomena in order to curtail the further multiplication of pathogen and even some cases it kills those microbes that causing the infection.
During the process of an inflammation, the blood capillaries dilate and more permeable to substances thereby various inflammatory mediators are quickly aggregated to the affected site. These mediators are very important in order to activate other inflammatory pathway in order to contain the infection to the local level. This results in swelling as a result of increased capillary permeability and redness.
Hope, this helps.  (+ info)

what drug would you administer a patient with chronic inflammation if the patient had alergies to voltaren ?

what drug would you administer a patient with chronic inflammation if the patient had alergies to voltaren and prone to hyper-glycemic reactions?
----------

That would depend upon the cause and site of the chronic inflammation and the nature of the voltaren allergy. Do you specifically want an anti-inflammatory drug or are you just looking to control pain? Do you want to use the drug long term or just for an acute exacerbation of chronic inflammation?

Anaphylaxis to voltaren might limit the NSAID options used. Indocid is another option but has a similar side effect profile to voltaren.

If it were joint inflammation, sometimes the pain can be well controlled with paracetamol, NSAIDs with a gentler side effect profile (such as ibuprofen) or glucosamine (as mentioned above).  (+ info)

White/Green tea. It does good all over the body. White and Green tea leaves come from the same plant actually, so try both and pick your favorite.  (+ info)

Anyone ever hear of using L-Lysine for nerve inflammation in humans?

I have a lot of overall pain and think some or all of it might be related to nerve inflammation. I read an update my mother received from, I assume a homepathic-article didn't say what his title was, regarding pain in her right side. One of the recommendations was taking 500 mg of L-Lysine with each meal. Anyone else have that recommendation made to them for nerve inflammation.
----------

Thanks for the question. I had not heard of that but I found this link which may be of interest to you:
http://www.krysalis.net/rheumatism.htm
Perhaps if the inflammation is linked to a virus then that might explain why l-lysine might give some benefit in certain inflammatory states linked to auto-immune disease. It is certainly worth trying.

Also consider these anti-inflammatory supplements:
turmeric [curcumin component, ginger [for inflammation and pain], fish oil, bromelain [inbetween meals] and boswelia or devil's claw for the pain.

St John's wort might help with inflammation of nerves [neuritis] too and also skullcap.

You need to talk to your GP first before taking herbal supplements if you are on any prescribed medications to be sure that anything you might want to try will not interact with your meds in a negative way.

B complex vitamins are a good choice for the nervous system as a whole. Opt for a time released version of strength B50 and take once or twice a day...depending on how "frayed" your nerves feel. I would also suggest sublingual B12 additionally.

Do fibriod tumors have a neg effect on neurogenic bladders condition?

I am a 35 y/o female. Desert Storm Veteran, only have access to the VA hospital system. Disabeled Veteran from spine injury that caused bladder nerve damage.
----------

I don't have any factual info on this, but just on commonsense, i would say that fibroids could indeed have a negative effect on neurogenic bladder.. I had fibroids that messed up my bladder function,so it seems likely. I would pursue the situation with the VA,,,  (+ info)

What could be causing this inflammation?

A few days ago, I realized that there was some slight inflammation and irritation on the gums on the roof of my mouth, lined up perfectly from my 6 year molar that stretched for about two teeth, headed towards the front of my mouth. Well, the irritation and inflammation increased, and now it has stretched almost to my front teeth, It is painful and swollen. I am wondering if I just irritated it or if there is an underlying cause.
