what does a borderline glandular smear result mean?

I recenly had my smear results, and it has shown a borderline result. But it is glandular, please help as I am extremely worried, what does this mean.
----------

Glandular cells are the ones that produce mucus or other secretions. These cells can appear abnormal when they are inflamed (but otherwise normal) which is the most common cause (about 80-85% of the time). If the abnormality is not from inflammation, it could be due to some type of pre-cancerous change. Borderline means the cells look like the changes in appearance might be something more than inflammation, but its not certain anything is wrong. When there is a potential pre-cancerous change in the cell's appearance, the docs might follow up with a biopsy or additional tests.  (+ info)

How long does Glandular Fever show on blood tests for?

Just wondering out of interest, how long after contracting Glandular Fever does it show on blood tests? i.e. Can you still be diagnosed of having Glandular Fever after 3 weeks?
----------

I have to say I am not 100% certain about this, but I believe the EBV antibodies are present for life.

If it's only been three weeks, then the antibodies should be present. VCA-IgM is the first antibody to show but usually goes after 4-6 weeks. The VCA-IgG I think is present for life. The other antibodies take about 1-2 weeks to show up in a blood test. If you have had Mono, after three weeks there will certainly be some evidence of this in a blood test.  (+ info)

Can glandular fever affect other body organs?

My daughter had glandular fever virus.Since then she has had recurring painThe doctorsare at a loss as to what is causing these pains.People with medical knowledge please.
My daughter gets recurring stomach pain very few weeks and has periods of feeling very physically tired.
----------

I caught gladular fever 4 years ago, and i had problems for nearly 3 years as it progressed to Chronic fatigue syndrome.

I had symptoms from stomach aches/pains, weakness, muscle aches, headaches, temperature disturbance etc etc

How long has your daughter had it?

What pains is she having?
Upper stomach pains can point to hep b, i assume they've checked for that.

Ask them to keep doing tests.

If she gets diagnosed with CFS especially. I know of a few people who were ill for quite a long time and they found out they had other treatable problems such as lyme disease, thyroid problems, etc.

EDIT: In answer to your question though - yes, the pain can be caused by the g fever.

http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/glandularfever.htm

After 3-6 months of it, is when they MAY diagnose
CFS /M.E/ FIBRO.

google for more and better sites.

Just tell her to take it easy. Rest is VERY important in a good recovery. Tell her not to push herself too much.

Keep going back to the doctors, they have a habit of dismissing you once you have the 'diagnosis'

Hope she feels better soon.

Oh and alcohol is a HUGE nono.

And eating healthier has been found to make a difference in quite a lot of people.  (+ info)

How likely am I to get glandular fever (mono) if I kissed someone with it?

I've just found out that someone I kissed about 2 weeks ago had glandular fever - they were over the worst part of it and were at the part where they just felt tired all the time. Were they still infectious? Am I likely to get it?

Is it normal to feel depressed when you have Glandular Fever?

I've got glandular fever and I feel really tired all the time, but I'm also starting to feel quite depressed.

Is this normal?

Is there anything I can do to stop feeling like this?

Cheers.
----------

yes it is quite normal to feel depressed when you are fighting off a virus, i think they even know the mechanism, my memory is a bit foggy, but i think it has something to do with an immune signalling protein called an interferon.

if it is just brief (a week or so) either sleep it off, or - not sure if this is recommended but it works for me - try some really really strong cold meds (sopmething qith pseudoephdrine) which should perk you up a bit, but don't do it if you need to drive or work with anything on fire etc. (they never say anything about fire on the box... i learnt that one the hard way).

if you go onto chronic fatigue syndrome (whioch some people get after GF) which can last for ages it may be worth seeing a GP or psychiaatrist about some antidepresants.  (+ info)

Is it ok to d exercise with Glandular fever?

I have just joined the gym recently and was gutted to find i have glandular fever. I've been told to rest and not do any competative sports.

Can i still go to the gym if i do a low intensity work out walking/jogging and using the cross trainer? What about the rowing machine also?
----------

You should also avoid contact sports while the spleen is swollen (to prevent it from rupturing).
Most signs and symptoms of mononucleosis ease within a few weeks, but it may be two to three months before you feel completely normal. The more rest you get, the sooner you should recover.
Returning to your usual schedule too soon can increase the risk of a relapse. If you're an athlete, be cautious about returning to strenuous activities or contact sports, especially if your spleen is enlarged, because of the increased risk of rupturing the spleen.
Children with mononucleosis and an enlarged spleen shouldn't engage in vigorous activities, roughhousing or contact sports for the same reason. Rupture of the spleen results in severe bleeding and is a medical emergency. Doctors suggest you avoid contact sports for at least one month after you've had mononucleosis, depending on how long it takes your spleen to return to normal size.
Although you may not be able to return to vigorous activities right away, your doctor may recommend gradual exercise to help you rebuild your strength as you recover from mononucleosis.  (+ info)

Can people that have been diagnosed with glandular fever give blood?

I live in the UK and would quite like to donate but i had Glandular fever i know it is not majorly serious but i would imagine people that need blood don't want that aswell. If anybody knows enough please tell me as most people dont understand it well enough to give me a valid answer.
----------

Yes, provided you are fully recovered and well.

http://www.sheffield.nhs.uk/blood/2-2.php

In Australia, yes, provided you have been recovered for more than two weeks. If you had jaundice (liver inflammation) with your bout of glandular fever then you should wait a year before donating again, and let them know at the blood bank when you return. I imagine the same would apply in the UK.  (+ info)
