this happen to my girl friend all the time and i want to explain better to the DR when we go to the hospital becos its a serious case, she being a woman, pregnant and not too atlectic.she complains of muscle pull on both legs.

If she's closer to her due date she might just be straining from the extra weight she has to carry around all day which is normal. I don't know what they call it in french, but the doctors should be able to get the point, they're supposed to be well-educated and all...  (+ info)

Why does the muscle near my tibia cramp?

I am an 18 year old man and for about two years now, whenever I am asleep at night, I have huge muscle spasms in my lower legs. One second I am asleep, and the next I am clutching my legs and moaning in severe pain. This lasts for a long 30 some seconds then it stops. This has only been happening for the past two years. Why is that and how can I help it?
----------

You still could be having growing pains, or your body is lacking in a vitamin. These cramps could also be due to dehydration. Drink more clear fluids and see if this doesn't help. Most people don't know they are dehydrated until it gets too severe. Recommend you see a Doctor for some real professional advise.  (+ info)

Any natural remedies for bicep muscle cramp?

My partner has broken his arm and due to not being able to move it out of the one position, the muscles are cramping, very sore. Am looking for a natural cure, be it herbal or household, as he is already on heavy pills for the broken arm pain and doesn't want more medicine. Cheers!
----------

Ice Cubes!... Ice the sore muscle for 5 minutes and then give it 10 minutes to warm up again to room temperature.. Ice it again for another 5 minutes and repeat this process until the stiffness goes away. You can also try cold clothes under and over top of the muscle while resting it on a pillow/arm of a chair, etc etc... I hope this helps and I wish you and your partner the best of luck.  (+ info)

What is the body's purpose for a muscle cramp?

Why do muscles contract when they lack potassium or you are dehydrated? What does your body hope to solve by giving you that excruciating pain for about 30 seconds?
----------

Perhaps since it's lacking essential nutrients to function properly, it is collapsing upon itself(?)  (+ info)

Did I get a muscle cramp during football or something else?

I played football and got calf muscle pain during the game but this only occured suddenly after kicking the ball. I'm not sure if it was a cramp but the muscle felt hard, moderately painful (stinging pain - like a stitch) and I could not move it. After 2 minutes of rest, the pain subsides and I go back into the game, but then I get a cramp straight after kicking a ball again, so I rest for 2 minutes and the cycle repeats.
After a while, the pain started to last longer (about 5 minutes), and I started noticing some tingling sensation in my fingers, but that tingling sensation went away after I got some rest.

I sweated alot in the game, but everybody sweated just as much and why did I get it only precisely after kicking the ball? Furthermore, the temporary tingling in my fingers worried me.

This exact same scenario has occured twice last year, minus the tingling. I do play other intense sports but I don't get this issue. Anyone know what is wrong and know any ways to prevent?
----------

t is probably lactic acid build up in your muscles, especially calf muscle is very prone to cramping. Try taking some magnesium plus calcium supplements for a while, and make sure you are well hydrated during the practices.Try to massage the area to avoid pain.
Tingling, it is probably due to tight shoes, if you were bear feet and cramping accrued you probably would not get the tingling.  (+ info)

I get cramps a lot and they hurt really bad, I have been getting them since I was a baby. This is what I do, it sounds like a lot but if I don't do every step my cramps won't go away.
1.) I walk around a little bit to get the blood moving again, as I'm walking around I will take advil or tylenol (what ever I got in the house)
2.) I fill up the bathtub with warm water and I pour salt in and mix it around.
3.) sit in the tub and massage the muscle
4.) stretch the muscle out and keep moving it for about 10-15 minutes.

hopefully it will be gone after doing all that but if it isn't than I will do the whole thing over again (with the exception of the advil, tylenol or whatever) after that if it still isn't gone than you probably pulled it or strained it so I would get to a doctor. good luck  (+ info)

When I'm dehydrated how does my brain decide which muscle in my leg will cramp up?

I always get leg cramps. Why not other parts of the body? Why a calf muscle one day or a hamstring the next?

You need lots of water and good nutrition.
There are tips and advice on this at the Sprots Nutrition Website below.

I used to get muscle cramps whilst cycling - now I don't thanks to eat2compete.com.  (+ info)

Is it normal to cry when you get a muscle cramp ?

Well, yesterday while stretching on top of my bed, I felt something on my calf and it exploded with excruciating pain. The next thing i knew I was crying for help and my mom walked in and started to comfort me and said to flex my foot which easily made the pain go away. Whats the cause?
----------

i hate pain. it definitely makes me cry.

HERE'S AN EXCELLENT STRETCH FOR SHIN SPLINTS, CALF CRAMPS, AND CHARLIE HORSE:

stretch your calves by standing on a step (like you're going up the stairs) with your heels hanging off the edge. push your heels down as far as you can for as long as you can. it feels so great afterwards. this is a wonderful stretch, so try to work it into your warmup and cooldown before and after you work out.

SIMPLE DEFINITION: Your calf muscle gets tight and pulls on the top and bottom of your shin bone, and since bones don't bend, the pressure causes pain. The pain can become severe if you don't stretch your calf muscle regularly.  (+ info)
