Muscle cramp?

I have recently found meditating to be very calming, because due to my ADD I always have to be moving (whether it be by tapping my foot, moving my fingers, chewing gum,etc...)and I have just found it wonderful to give my brain and body a complete rest.Well the other day during meditation a muscle in my shoulder started spazzing out and its had a bad cramp for a few days. What do you think happened and how can I fix it?
I just don't understand how I could get it messed up by sitting STILL.

Not sure what might have caused your muscle cramp, but I suggest massage therapy to get the knots out. Maybe the massage therapist can tell you why it cramped up.  (+ info)

muscle cramp?

Lately I have been having a lot of troubles with my left leg. 2 months ago, my knee cap 'popped out' (sublixation of the patella) while playing basketball, and I've noticed that this leg gets hurt more. My doctor suggester physical therapy and exercise and I have been doing that. The other night my calf seemed to do pretty much what my knee did while I was asleep (waking me up). It hurt A LOT and when i looked at it it looked like it was flexed but it wouldn't unflex. I tried pushing it back but it didn't move until a couple minutes of pain. Is this a muscle cramp?
----------

Yes it's a cramp, it means that you need more water(fluids) and or potassium, if you are an athlete and do this constantly you need to probably get drinks with lots of it or bananas also there are potassium tablets. To get rid of it as it comes get up walk to a wall... as best as you can, put your foot up on the wall with your heel down on the ground and push your leg straight with your body towards the wall stretching it. It hurts but it gets rid of it quickly.  (+ info)

How do I prevent a muscle cramp during exercise or what am I doing wrong?

I just started going to the gym recently. I started with the treadmill and got a bad muscle cramp every time. So I switched to the elliptical. Things have been going great but just recently, half way through my work out, I get the same bad muscle cramp in my abdomen. Why is this happening and how can I stop it?
----------

Are you drinking enough water, dehydration can cause muscle cramping... Also overworking the muscle, so make sure your not overdoing it.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, never forget to warm up! For the first 20 minutes just try going at a good slow pace before you build up speed, that should help.  (+ info)

Why do I keep getting this muscle cramp feeling in my knee area?

I can usually run atleast 5-6 miles, but now a days I can only run 1/2 a mile before the muscle at the top of my knee (lower quad) starts cramping up and I have to stop. I have tried resting for 2-3 weeks without running, but when I start again, the muscle cramp sensation comes back. It feels like a muscle cramp because the muscle becomes really tight, but its a chronic problem, so it may be something else. I am a seasoned runner, so I do all the stretching, proper hydration, potassium, etc.

Can anyone give me some ideas on what my problem is and how to fix it? Thanks.

How do I prevent cramp in my calf muscle?

I woke up in the night last Wed with cramp in my calf muscle, painfully sore and it happened again lastnight! Is there something I can do to prevent it because my calf hurts the next day.

It sounds silly, but maybe your shoes are too flat. I get terrible leg cramps if I wear really flat shoes for too long. Good excuse to wear heels all the time!  (+ info)

Why Does My Left Calf Muscle Feel Like Its Going to Cramp Up Whenever I Walk?

It just started doing that today, I did not do anything extreme that would pull it. All I did was work in the woodshop. Whenever I walk I can literally feel the muscle just twisting around and wanting to cramp up. Any way I can prevent a bunch of charlie horses tonight?

You may have a potassium deficiency. Try eating a couple of bananas.  (+ info)

is it possible for a muscle cramp to cause a stress fracture?

a few years ago, i had a severely painful muscle cramp in my back right calf. about a month after that, i injured my ankle and after x-raying my ankle they discovered a healing stress fracture. i never questioned why i had the stress fracture b/c i was more concerned with my ankle injury. a few days ago i had an extremely painful muscle cramp in my left calf that woke me out of a sleep and it is very painful to straighten my leg out or put weight on it.

Yes

Muscles have the strength to break bones.

One of the problems of electric shock can be broken bones as it makes the muscles contract so powerfully.

Another horrible one is strychnine poisoning, people can end up with the head pretty much touching their heels - by being backwards - and yep, bones go snappity snap to let that happen.

Not good.

However a regualr cramp is NOT going to do that - but in theory, a muscle cramping or spasming DOES have the potential to break bones.

Extremely painful cramp in my calf muscle while I was sleeping?

I woke up with an excruciatingly painful cramp in my calf muscle.
Why did this happen and how long does it take to recover from it? It has already been 3 hours and I still am limping a bit. What should I do?
Any help would be great!
Thanks

Muscle cramps generally result from overexertion and dehydration. These are very painful, and are involuntary contraction of the muscle. When you don't have enough fluid in your system, it leads to an electrolyte imbalance that causes your muscles to cramp up. Electrolytes are minerals such as sodium, magnesium, calcium and potassium that help the cells to function normally. A muscle cramp, technically, occurs when your muscle tightens and shortens causing a sudden severe pain. Cramps may also occur after inactivity, such as sitting too long in one place without moving a muscle. Sometimes, like you, a cramp can happen just lying in bed, unfortunately researchers cannot define a definite cause, but assume the above. Try moving it around and massaging the area, this should help..if not please contact your dr...However, like you..most often people get cramps in their calves, however, you can also get them in your thighs, feet or just about any muscle too..hope you feel better soon.

What causes a repeated muscle cramp in my thigh?

I keep getting a cramp or 'charlie horse' in my upper left thigh, sort of to the back and side. I will just be sitting or standing and it will happen. It lasts a few seconds and then stops, but comes back every couple of minutes. It doesn't happen when I am lying down. I have some mild low back pain too but no problem walking, bending, etc. I've had no injury. I'm in decent but not great shape and my overall health is good. What could this be??
----------

'Charley-horses' is the first place your body targets when you are dehydrated. Drink lots of water! I recommend purified water and Mineral Water mixed 50/50. The Mineral Water is going to put back into the muscles the minerals they are losing on a daily basis. You must drink beyond your thirst to get the benefits of hydration.

I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day. Realize that exercise, ambient temperature, and state of health affect the water needs of your body.

In the evening take a hot bath with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts and soak for 30 minutes. Afterwards, if you have something shaped like a cylinder and made out of hard material (think of a large rolling pin you would use for pizza dough or something) place it On your leg and push down and roll it back and forth...this should massage the spasms out of your leg. It will hurt while you're doing it, but more so the type of pain that actually feels good, in the long run. Afterwards massage an analgesic cream into the area. You will start feeling better very quickly.  (+ info)

Prolonged muscle cramp is killing me anyone know why this is happening?

I did a calf work out two days ago, i havent had any problems till today and now it hurts to stand up or walk. It feels like a cramp and ive streched it and drank water all day and nothing. I have worked out my calves before but this has only happened one other time and that time i couldnt move my legs at all because of the pain. Any in depth and knowledgable response would be greatly appreciated.
