How long does swollen lymph node usually last?

I had two swollen lymph nodes when I did a HIV antibody blood test. After a week another two lymph nodes began to swell. The next week, the test came back negative and I was very relieved. The thing that I'm worrying now is it normal to have like more than four lymph nodes in the left side of your neck and one behind your ear without having any fever nor sore throat? I'm not having night sweats whatsoever. When my lymph node is beginning to swell, it became tender but after a few days or so, it becomes painless. Is it normal? I told me doctor that and he told me to come back a month later to see if it has reduce in size but I'm very worried. Anyone care to clarify? Thanks in advance :)

swollen lymph nodes usually mean the body is fighting some sort of infection. It means you either are sick, or are about to get sick.

If your doctor is keeping an eye on it, I wouldn't let it worry you. Unless it becomes painful, just relax and let your body do it's job.  (+ info)

What is causing my swollen lymph node?

The lymph node in the left of my neck is swollen and tender to the touch. It started when I had a small tooth ache in my bottom left wisdom tooth (which is barley breaking the gum). But I have also missed 3 of my birth control pills in the last week and am currently on my period. What could be causing this? And is it anything to worry about or will the swelling go down soon?
----------

if your lymph nodes are swollen above the waist it is an infection above the waist. wisdom tooth. if they are swollen below the waist it is an infection below the waist, (could be a hangnail) if you missed three pills that is why you are having your period. use ice for the swelling, a wad of black pepper on the tooth will help with the pain but it will have to come out eventually.  (+ info)

What is a normal lymph node supposed to feel like?

In one of my books it says, that a movable, nontender cervical node is abnormal and could mean lymphoma. I thought the lymph nodes are supposed to be movable and nontender. They're not supposed to be hard and immovable. ? Im confused.
they are crazy im right
----------

I think the book is being alittle confusing. Lymphoma usually has harder/firm nodes. Nontender usually refers to not being painful to palpation. Movable relates to the node being firmer so it is easier to "push" around.  (+ info)

what if the lymph node has been swelled for months? could that indicate cancer?

I have a friend who has had constant headaches, lightheaded, and he's even passed out more than once... You can see the swollen lymph node in the side of his neck and there is a known total of 3 swollen in his neck?... what are the possibilities?
----------

The symptoms your friend has are almost identical to the ones I had before I was diagnosed with lymphoma. I thought it was all due to some sort of virus that I couldn't get rid of so I never went to the doctor. This doesn't mean your friend has lymphoma, the symptoms are similar to what you will have with mono. The only way to know for sure is to go to the doctor and have them run tests looking for mono. If he doesn't have it they will probably do a lymph node biopsy. Either way it is really important that your friend goes to the doctor right away, lymphoma is more curable form of cancer, but it still needs to be treated... so does mono.  (+ info)

Is a swollen lymph node in the groin hard and unmoveable or soft and moveable.?

I had an infection and the groin lymph node became swollen. It is hard and does not move when I press. Does anybody have any experience with this and how long it takes to settle down as it has been 2 months already.. I am aware I need to see a doctor, I go next week.

Thanks

You can discuss the matter with your Dr soon enough. In the meantime, try to give this as little thought as possible as it will only leave you feeling more concerned and this may be an unnecessary emotion in the face of what might be a simple diagnosis.

Good luck and I hope that the condition is soon positively resolved...  (+ info)

Can an ingrown hair on your outer labia lead to a swollen lymph node in your groin?

I'm not sure if this is related, but I went to the doctor to inquire about the swollen lymph node that was tender in my groin area and he said I could be fighting off a yeast infection or something. Then today my period started a week early. Im just wondering if these are somehow connected. Should I be worried?

Can an ingrown hair on your outer labia lead to a swollen lymph node in your groin?
****Yes, if it had become infected and was severe enough

Then today my period started a week early. Im just wondering if these are somehow connected
****It is possible, infection can cause changes in the menstrual cycle

No need to really be worried since you have seen a Dr....being that you have started your period, the hormones and possible irritation of that area may make it take longer for that infection to resolve  (+ info)

how likely is it that a removed lymph node from the neck will turn out to be cancer?

I just had a lymph node removed in my neck and sent for a full histology. Nothing was done prior to this, ie antibiotics, CT scan etc. Now I am absolutely terrified its going to be lymphoma or some other form of cancer. Anyone have ideas what the percentages are for these things coming back negative.
----------

When I was awaiting the results of my lymph node biopsy, my consultant told me that over 80% of lymph nodes that are biopsied come back all clear and are not cancerous.

I am a little suprised that you have not had CT scan or any other tests done before the biopsy. Did your consultant not tell you why they were carrying out the biopsy?

I know the wait for the results is going to be a tough time, and in a way its only natural that you start to think about the worst possible outcomes. Try to keep yourself as busy as you can while you wait for the results, and so you will not have so much time to stress over them.

i wish you all the very best, and hope it all comes back clear for you  (+ info)

Can one spoon of table salt and a spoon of baking soda help my swollen lymph node?

I woke up with a small painful bump in the upper part of my neck. From what my friend told me, I'm guessing I've got a swollen lymph node. It is only on the left side of my neck, thank God. I want to get rid of the swelling naturally. Do you think table salt and baking soda can get the job done?
----------

No. If it's a swollen lymph node that indicates an infection. My son got them whenever he was sick. But if you haven't been sick, then please see a doctor because you have an infection somewhere that needs attention!  (+ info)
